Jay-Z and Eminem set for two hometown stadium concerts together

The two biggest names in the business just announced that they’ll be performing full sets together at their hometown stadiums. Detroit native Eminem and New York’s Jay-Z hit the Detroit Tigers game last night (Wednesday, May 13) against the Yankees to spread the word.

“Me and Em,” Jay said in the skybox suite during the ESPN-televised game, “we’re here to announce the fact that we’re doing two shows. September 2 here at Comerica Park and then we’re going to go up to New York to perform at Yankee Stadium September 13. He’s going to headline Detroit. And I’ll headline New York.”

In addition to this being the first show ever at the young New York stadium, this will be Jay’s first time performing a full concert at a ballpark. Last fall he performed New York’s  unofficial anthem, “Empire State of Mind,” with Alicia Keys during Game 2 of the World Series. Eminem has played Comerica before but said that he’s excited about his upcoming run with Jay. “We’ve done things together, smaller shows,” Eminem said. “But I’m not sure we’ve ever done anything this big.”

Tickets go on sale June 12. Will you be buying some to watch them switch roles as starter and closer? Think they’ll get a chance to record with each other again?

    This will be awesome.

The show in Detroit will be amazing, the people there always seem to “bring it” for their hometown stars.

    • Red Alert

Couldnt agree more… Kid Rock, Eminem, Bob Seger, Iggy Popp, Aretha Franklin… the tough people of Detroit love their homegrown talent like no other city in the country

You’re dead wrong, kid. This concert is going to be a huge disappointment. I’ve seen Em twice (once at the Palace and the other at CoPa) and I’ve seen Hova at the Silverdome. Without a doubt, those were the 3 worst concerts I’ve ever been to. The last concert Em did at Comerica back in 2005 was the one that sparked his “retirement” and 5 year depression binge. He was getting booed for putting on skits in between songs. Dude thought he was a comedian, and definitely heard it from the fans. The Jay Z concert was a bust because of the sound/acoustics. Granted Hova can’t be completely to blame for that, but he can be blamed for not even performing an entire hour!!! Total waste of money.

You have no idea what you are talking about.

      • jamie

Hahaha i went to the Aug 2005 concert and it kicked ass it was sooo much fun we were front row and i loved it and i will be going to this septembers show for sure!

Oh man, I know what I’m doing September 13th.. I seriously hope they record together again.. Maybe Renegade part 2?

    • donknottz

Why So Em can show Jay Z that he’s the best rapper alive again!

      • Vince from NYC

So Em can show the WORLD he’s the best rapper.. Not for nothing Jay ripped it up on Renegade too though. I’m torn as a white rap fan who’s also a New Yorker, its hard to choose.. Throw Nas into the mix and I think i might pass out by being bombarded with lyrical genious.

  • Mike

Bleh…two of the most overrated rappers in the game.

    • Vince from NYC

Overrated? They are highly rated because they are highly skilled.. Name one rapper out there that can match their quality? There must be something like 15 studio albums between them over 100 million records sold, grammy’s oscars.. You name it they did it. Over rated my @$$.. There hasn’t even been a high enough rating invented to rate the two..

    • donknottz

U know nothing if you think Em is overrated, Jay -Z maybe Em no chance best alive.

    • keno

neither are overrated. they are incredible talents… you’re overrated and I’ve never even hear of you!

  • Preston

That’s going to be BIG! Each of them pull in big audiences in New York and Detroit and the stadium shows will get more people to watch rather than the smaller venues that rap artists mostly perform at. I like both Jay-Z and Eminem’s music and they will both tear up those stages with those shows! They have huge fan bases and are still turning out hits!

  • couchgrouch

wow, that’s gonna require some 500000 watt drum machines.

  • John

    This will be huge.

  • Tracy Greeb

They are both of the two greatest rappers still alive. I want to see a collaboration with Justin Timberlake and Eminen.

  • Emcee Centauri

Being from metro Detroit, and a hip hop fan, both mofo’s will rip it. I agree with the above poster, We support our homegrown talent and sports teams like none other. We may be down as a city right now, but Detroit will reemerge once again. Oh and Go Tigers!

  • Eric

    They are both great

    Not the greatest..

Most of the great rappers have passed on (Biggie, Big Pun, Big L, ODB, Tupac, Easy-E.

  • RLR

Oh, please! Rap was started by young blacks who can’t really make it in the music industry singing, so they put together 3rd grade rhymes and make millions. A lot of them are from the inner-city and have poor reading and writing skills. Now the white boys are just in it to make big $$$, and then move on to acting (e.g., Mark Wahlberg). Yes, I said it, and I’m an African/Mexican American. And a lot of you know I’m telling the truth, but are scared to admit it.

    • m

Not at all. The media, for the better part is satiated on mid level rappers who spout corny one liners as opposed to the good rappers because it appeals to the general public. I suggest you look up the lyrics to any RAKIM song, and tell me that is third grade rhyming

      • RLR

M,thanks for the suggestion. I’ll check it out. RLR

    • dani

      @ RLR,

What the hell are you talking about? If you think the kind of rap music Jay-Z and Eminem make doesn’t require intelligence and skill, then KILL YOURSELF.

And the fact that you’re “African/Mexican American,” means nothing. It doesn’t give you the authority on the topic that you’re obviously seeking. Sorry. Lol.

I am very excited about these shows. I hope I am able to get tickets before they are all gone. It will be my first real time in Detroit (I say “real time” because I did run through the airport once… I saw Soulja Boy. Lame. Lol.). I hope I have a good time!

      • RLR

I’m probably old enough to be your father or even grandfather, so rap is not my choice of music. I grew up as teenager in the 1960s listening to the Motown Sound and other great R&B (Rythm & Blues) artists, such as Aretha, J.B., Gladys, Dionne, Patti, Ike & Tina, Otis, Wilson Picket, etc. The music young people listened to then, had great lyrics. Perhaps you should listen to some of the old soul artists (e.g., Smokey Robinson) and you’ll hear how great the music was then. I realize it’s a new generation with a new sound. Maybe you can suggest the names of some rappers who have a positive meesage in there lyrics to the young people and I’ll check it out. As far as killing myself, I don’t think that’s an option, and I certainly would suggest that you take your life. The fact that I’m an African/Mexican American does mean something to me. I am proud of my mixed heritage and all I want is for you young people to get a good education to you can make it in this life, which is not any easy feat these days. Well, enjoy the concert and be safe.

      • RLR

I made a typo: I meant to type “I certainly wouldn’t suggest that you take your life.” Be blessed today. RLR

  • taylor

  • Madwoman
