As a Christian who believes that all people, no matter what their vices, must be shown love and respect, I have to say that the Phelps seriously need Jesus.

    • JPX

“Phelps seriously need Jesus.” What does that even mean? It’s basically a non-solution. You’re saying, these idiots who hate in the name of make-believe (i.e., religion) need to embrace more make-believe. The solution is to educate people.

      • Maureen

Stop being so patronizing. Katy has a valid point.

    • justjack

you know, I get what Katy is saying. The solution is compassion and love… which is what the biblical Jesus preached. I can’t see how you can argue with that, whether you ascribe to any organized religion or not.

  • JPX

It amazes me that in 2010 we still have people who embrace magic, superstition, and make-believe. The irony is that these religious nuts are so hateful and intolerant. What would their imaginary deity think? What’s the average educational level of these dolts? I’m thinking 6th grade? I agree with those who suggest that the news media stop covering these wastes of life. Obviously attention is what they seek.

    • Amy

I truly feel sorry for you. I feel sorry that you feel the need to tear others, and their beliefs, down just to make yourself feel better.

I am a Christian, I don’t believe in “Make Believe”, I believe in a living God whose presence I can see everyday. You may disagree with me, but what in the world gives you the right to critize and degrade me?? And just FYI, I have a Master’s Degree, well above a 6th grade education.

That said, these people are not “Christians”. They may claim the title, but they as far removed from the actual teachings of Christ and the Bible as one can be.

I believe in the Easter bunny, he brings me Cadbury eggs at easter, and Santa he brings me toys for Jesus Birthday, and unicorns they….well you get the picture. No amount of reason will change the minds of anyone neither will prostelitizing to non believers. It’s sort of the way free will works. I often wonder why indigenous peoples don’t automatically know of god without being told.

      • Amy

@Fred – did you really just compare God to the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus and unicorns? Seriously??

I respect that there is free will and I respect everyone’s right to choose what they will believe. I do this without calling nonbelievers names, telling them they are stupid or implying that they somehow cannot think logically and resonably. I wonder why nonbelievers can’t give me, a believer, the same respect?

But look, this topic wasn’t originally started to debate religion so I’ll reiterate what I said earlier.

These people at Westboro in no way represent me as a Christian nor do they represent the Christian religion as a whole.

This is disgustting. If this was a bunch of us metllers protesting the prists funeral then we’d all get arrested. Its ridiculous! You people make me disgusted with the human race. Why cant everyone just get along! We may have different views and according to your god (who gave us a thing called FREE WILL BTW) he forgives ALL, so leave Ronnie be. He has suffered for the last year and he is finally free from that. If this is what worshiping ‘god’ is all about then I want no part of it – and you people wonder why so many people don’t believe in religion!!!

  • Fred

Nobody really cares, the churches of america have been commiting crimes against its followers and its enemies for ever. They even molest children and get away with it. Not a one has done prison time. This is why I’m not a christian. Problems don’t go away when you put your head in the sand.

    • Boof

did you forget to take your meds today? \../

      • Fred

I don’t take drugs either, Maybe if the whole of christianity didn’t argue amongst themselves, the rest of us might listen. Until christianity makes these people pay for their insolence I can’t see it being over with.

    • Boof

Maybe you should start. There’s many forms of counseling available to you.

      • Fred

What are you even talkin about? meds? counseling? For what?

  • justjack

I don’t believe in hell, but if I did, Fred Phelps deserves to go there. I do think that the Christian ideals of compassion and loving your neighbor are worthy of humanity to embrace. We should all aspire to act in a Christ like manner… which is the last thing people like those Westboro freaks embody. I wish they wouldn’t be identified as a “church”… they are a fringe freak cult that no Christian (much less decent human being) should want to be associated with.

  • justin

really wow these people have no morals what so ever nor do they know the facts of the bible at all for one if they read it they would see that homosexuality was basically the way of life for everyone so they only one that should really be protested with the salute of the devil horns is these corrupt family members

  • DR078

The irony of this whole situation is that while they protest the United States, and the soldiers who fight and fought for this country, they have no problem exercising their rights to free speech. If they truly believe in what they are preaching, then they should never buy a stamp to send something in the mail, that is supporting a federal agency. They should never utilize our justice system, and they should never try and exercise their constitutional rights if they feel they are violated. You can’t have it both ways. Additionally, how do they define marriage? If they truly believe that our country is corrupt, then their marriages should be bound only by their church. I would hope that none of them has a marriage license from a court of law. How about any type of government assistance, gov’t loans for school? Health assistance? How about the clothes they wear? Are they homemade? Or are they made in China or other foreign country in which the gov’t regulates imports? Instead of just criticising, lets look at the facts. I think that journalist missed some big opportunities to ask some really good questions.

  • Unbelievable

This Is just Unbelievable to me ..
at 40 years old Ive been a Fan of Ronnie James for years .. In absolutely none of his songs will you here anything reballing against god Ronnie brought his audience into a world of Magic Dragons and Kings.. He was a true entertainer and one of the most down to earth rock stars ever.. It just figures that fanatical religion has to stick its nose were it doesnt even understand.. If there is a heaven Ronnie James is There laughing at these idiots..
Rest in Peace Ronnie James Dio.. I LOVE AND WILL MISS YOU FOREVER !!

    • Someone

If you listen to fools, the mob rules.

    • Someone

“If there is a heaven Ronnie James is There laughing at these idiots..
Rest in Peace Ronnie James Dio.. I LOVE AND WILL MISS YOU FOREVER !!”

      I agree completely.

  • The Truth

Unfortunately, these pricks are allow to excersise their freedom of speech, BUT, why can’t we turn the tables on them? We should all gather and protest their idiotic church… we owe it to all soldiers, Dio and any american with common sense… just a thought

    • Someone

Because the one thing these trolls love more than anything else is attention and publicity of any kind. They would LOVE to be protested, by as many people as possible.

  • Lane

Most of the comments sadden me. I was fearful of Dio’s messages, but we must not judge a person’s soul.

    • Someone

“I was fearful of Dio’s messages”– please explain this? Which “message”? Why?

    • ks

I wonder too? DIO had no fearful messages-listen to the words. “Dreamers never die”

    • Boof

Fearful? Have you ever actually listened to one of his songs?

  • Me

Hey, they are only doing what the Bible says.
    Hate them, hate the Bible.

    • Lizabeth

They are absolutely not doing what The Bible says. The two great commandments that Jesus gave were to love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. And the second is to love your neighbor as yourself. As a Christian, my idea of love is not to shout hate at any person, no matter who they are or what their lifestyle. My idea of love is to show love and compassion and kind works to people at all times.

      • Lizabeth

(And don’t get me wrong…I do have bad days, but I never ever intentionally hurt someone or their families when they are at their lowest points.)

    • whatevs

This is the dumbest comment I ever read. Are you trying to sound stupid? Any literate human being can see that the Bible obviously doesn’t condone this behavior.

    • Maureen

@Me: Have you even READ the Bible?! Why do people speak on things they know nothing about? *scratches head*

    • Amy

@Me: You and I are obviously not reading the same Bible.

    • crispy

Actually if they were doing what the bible said they would be stoning people for every little thing. As far as I’m concerned these people are fairly nice considering what the bible would really want them to do. It’s no wonder people laugh at people who believe in the bible. Shame the people that actually read and “believe” in that silly drivel can’t understand why they are being laughed at. Say what you want that book is evil and sick and it brings about people such as this to make the world worse. Let’s just all hope they never really do what that book wants them to do!

  • Juuso

These people disgust me, this is an evil act.
Part of me wonders if they would be so nonchalant about someone openly mocking the death of a loved one of theirs and picketing their funerals.

    I doubt it.

  • Blake

This church is so frustrating! As a Christian, it is so disheartening to see a group that calls itself a “church” behave this way. This is not the way a church should act, Christians are supposed to be known for their love, not their hatred. I am begging you people, do not judge all Christians by this group, they are incredibly misguided. I do not support their actions in any way, and the vast majority of Christians feel the same way. The WBC is really an insult to anyone who wants to make this world a better place.

  • Dave

Ironically, these idiots are actually the only true Christians. Other, more compassionate “Christians” have been cherry picking the bible for centuries, adhering to the parts they like and ignoring the overwhelming ignorance, sexism, genocide, cruelty and barbarism that is to be found in it – particularly the Old Testament. I hate it all.

    • AcaseofGeo

Ouch Dave. Its ouch cuz you hit the nail on the head.

    • whatevs

I don’t understand how everyone thinks that everything in the Bible means it’s ok. Yes, those things are in there, but those stories have a moral lesson.

Do you think that because rape is in the Bible, God supports it? You can’t rewrite history to benefit your own beliefs. Those things actually happened, but it also shows what happens to those who perform such acts.

Really, it boggles my mind when I read comments like these who call ignorance on Christians when they are the ones who know nothing about the lifestyle they are mocking.

    • Blake

I would love for you to find evidence for your claims using the Bible Dave. Do not attack an entire religion if you arent properly informed. Jesus clearly states in the Bible that we are to love our neighbors as ourselves, so how exactly are these people spreading that message dave?

      • Fred

In the old testament Moses and his army commit genocide all the time. Joshua at the battle of Jericho went directly against God and was praised for it. Sodom and Gamorrah were destroyed by Angels. This is what the bible is about. Then GOD changes his mind, do you guys actually read your own book?

      • Jules

Fred, have you ever read the Bible?

All Old Testament canons are related to the Jewish Bible Canon (Tanakh), but with variations. The most important of these variations is a change to the order of the books: the Hebrew Bible ends with the Book of Chronicles, which describes Israel restored to the Promised Land and the Temple restored in Jerusalem; in the Hebrew Bible God’s purpose is thus fulfilled and the divine history is at an end, according to Dispensationalism and Supersessionism (see Jewish Eschatology for Jewish beliefs on the subject). In the Christian Old Testament the Book of Malachi is placed last, so that a prophecy of the coming of the Messiah leads into the birth of the Christ in the Gospel of Matthew.

Unlike the Old Testament, the contents of the New Testament were written after the advent of and deal explicitly with Christianity. Within the religion, both the Old and New Testament are regarded, together, as Sacred Scripture. The New Testament has therefore (in whole or in part) frequently accompanied the spread of Christianity around the world, and both reflects and serves as a source for Christian theology.

Of course, my favorit book is Ezekiel 25:17.

  • AcaseofGeo

I don’t care for Black Sabbath OR their kind of music, but how is this type of disruption even legal? Let the family and close friends and fans of this man have some peace. How disgraceful. This is NOT what God wants.
