Well…based on the lazy “journalism” of this reporter(forgot name already) and his failure to research Taylor Hicks’ success….my guess is he’s never going to be a Michael Slezak or a Dave White.
Taylor Hicks has been on the road for four years in making a very good living doing what he loves and making some damn good money doing it. You don’t have to sell records to teeny boppers to be successful.
Lee will be a Taylor,,,,, boring ….Casey should have won-He has great guitar skills-a wonderful voice-and he is the most salable-He could sell millions of CD’s and when you look into his eyes you see his soul-He should have won…..
I don’t see how Lee can become the next Kelly or Carrie, but that’s nothing against him. Just look at Adam Lambert–he has had by far the most worshipful, extensive media coverage of any Idol contestant ever, and his album still has not gone platinum. So it’s not really fair to expect any Idol contestants to sell big when the most pimped contestant ever isn’t doing that great. Clearly, Idol’s moment passed several years ago.
Lambert’s album has gone gold and platinum in several European countries, New Zealand, Australia and Canada.
You do the math.
Lee DeWyz will be a Taylor Hicks. He does not have the stage presence, nor sound to keep anyone interested. This whole season of AI should be just that lesson and that lesson alone. Not since season 1 of AI has anyone produced anything worth buying and or even memorable. With exceptions Carrie Underwood/Kelly Clarkson and Kris Allen. This is just another reminder that AI has lost it’s appeal and needs to CLOSE shop once and for all! All the changes coming WILL NOT help get this train-wreck of a show back on it’s tracks! Let’s hope that Fox will pay attention, when you are being beat by DWTS, you are in trouble! BIG TROUBLE! AI – GO AWAY!
I actually think Lee will be successful. His voice/style is very current, very radio friendly. He’s going to put out music similar to The Fray, Nickelback, Daughtry, Lifehouse….very commercial, adult contemporary style music. I think he will have lots of radio success. We’ll see if he can carry that out into good touring success.

Why in the world do you think it necessary to slam & slur Taylor Hicks?? To get a point across? What point?? Why do you feel it necessary to hold him up as an example of failure?? Inquiring minds what to know. Why? Why? Especially why, cause it ain’t so. You’re not holding Kris Allen as an example of failure. You’re not holding Adam Lambert as an example of failure. And you shouldn’t, but how can you keep a straight face and say what you did about Taylor? For your information – and though I like both of them – Taylor sold more debut albums, 250,000, the first week than Adam and Kris combined did the first three months. Even now – although individual recordings from the album have done well – six months later Kris has sold approximately 300,000 debut albums. Adam has gone gold but will never go platinum. Yet, you don’t hold up either of these talented performers as examples of failure.
Further, why do you hold Taylor up as an example of a failed career when he made $3.5 million during ’09. Lee will be lucky to have it that good.
No, I’m not a member of the Soul Patrol, and he’s not my favorite Idol by any means. However, I do like him and I am sick and tired, and disgusted and fed up to see him held up so unfairly to ridicule.
It sad when an entertainer as talented as Taylor Hicks is made into a whipping boy by the thoughtless and ill informed.
Simon Cowell thinks Lee will be a big success and he’s generally right in his assessment of things. He said Carrie would sell millions of records & he was right. He said Kris Allen would not be too successful commercially. He told Taylor Hicks to sing country and try to get into the movies. So far, he’s done neither.
Honestly, even if this guy could sing well (which he can’t), he still won’t make it because he is completely ordinary. There are thousands of Lee DeWyze’s in bars and small venues across the country. He doesn’t differentiate himself because he has NO charisma or distintive performance still. He incredibly derivative.
Crystal, on the other hand, is incredibly distinct. She has a sound and style that is absent in today’s music, and people who miss the days when music was authentic and good will by her stuff. People will be more inclined to see her in concert because she is an incredible live performer. She also is a gifted song writer. You got to have the tools to make it, especially if you are coming off American Idol. The ones that are doing well (Kelly, Carrie, Adam) have the voice, and Crystal will join their company.
Also, Lee’s victory may have actually hurt him in the long run. Casual viewers or Crystal fans who truly felt that Crystal deserved it as the better performer (both in the finale and all season long) may have respected and been more interested in Lee and his post-idol music if he performed well in the finale and Crystal had won the title she deserved. However, since he sucked so badly and robbed Crystal of her title, fans of the latter and fans who maybe only saw the finale will remain bitter about his unfair victory, and that will hurt him in the long run.
I personally think Lee will take over Kris Allen’s crown as the lowest swelling AI winner ever.
Meant to say, “lowest selling AI winner ever”. Kris took the crown away from Hicks, next year he can bestow it on Lee.
Is it really necessary to battle it out on an article just because you support a different person? It’s all about preferences.
Well, I am not trying to voice my opinion too much but…Lee is an amazing singer. There is no denying that or he wouldn’t of made it into the top 24, but will he do well in the music world? I don’t know. I know I will still support him since I am a Lee fan. Lee is a very attractive guy and I think he will be more successful than Taylor just by his looks (that sounds terrible but he has A LOT more teen appeal). I will still support him in has music, cause frankly, I have supported most AI winners.
