Rock them, Amadeus! Jaunty prep-school rockers Vampire Weekend, in full powdered-wig regalia, get britches-deep in modern L.A. living (pool parties! Venice Beach! iced lattes!) in their new video for the sunny single “Holiday”:
What do you think, readers? Better than tennis-court warfare with RZA and the Prince of Persia? We’re so used to seeing the Vampy Weekenders in their standard popped-collar couture; it’s fun to see them throwing down some early-’80s New Romantic—a.k.a. “If you like it put a powdered wig on it”—right down to the vintage-y-looking film stock. A little more Adam Ant, a little less J. Peterman? Yes.

I have just discovered Vampire Weekend a few months ago, and I’ve youtubed some of their videos. “Cousins” made me like the group, but “Giving Up the Gun” made me a fan. While I’m enjoying this video, it does no top the “tennis court warfare” of the “Giving up the gun” video. Another great song.
This single is the prefect chance for the Vampire guys to finally get a mainstream hit. Its by far the most accessible pop song on the new album, “Contra” which is definitely one of the BEST albums of the year!!
Wonderful video. Anybody else looking at this as a hint for their next music video……i.e. California English…eh?
Not available outside the US. What are they, Nashville xenophobes?
