Godsmack tops Billboard albums chart

GodsmackImage Credit: Paul BrownHard rock rocked Billboard‘s albums chart this week. Godsmack‘s latest effort, Oracle, debuts at No. 1. with 117,000 copies sold. It’s their third album to top the chart. Lady Antebellum‘s Need You Now holds strong at No. 2 with 97,000 units moved. MercyMe’s The Generous Mr. Lovewell debuts  at No. 3 with 88,000.

Working legends Carole King and James Taylor’s duets album, Live at the Troubadour, premiers at No. 4 with 78,000. This means that Taylor has had one album in the top 10 in each decade since the 1970s. Behind them is Justin Bieber‘s My World 2.0, which drops one slot to No. 5 with 64,000. Next is the Deftones’ Diamond Eyes” with 62,000 copies sold.

Toni Braxton’s Pulse is the last debut to appear in the top 10. She comes in at No. 9 with 54,000 copies sold. Usher’s Raymond v. Raymond closes out the top 10, falling four spots with 51,000. B.o.B’s The Adventures of Bobby Ray was last week’s chart king, but fell to No. 12 this time around with 36,000 sold.

Surprised B.o.B fell out of the top 10 so fast? Did you buy the Godsmack album? Talk to us.

Eminem's 'Not Afraid' to debut at No. 1 on Billboard's Hot 100

Categories: Charts, Eminem, Hip-Hop/Rap

EminemImage Credit: Nigel ParryTomorrow, Eminem‘s lead single from his forthcoming album Recovery, “Not Afraid,” will debut at No. 1 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 single chart. The veteran lyricist is in good company. Only 15 other artists in the history of Billboard‘s chart have accomplished the feat. Lauryn Hill’s “Doo Wop (That Thing)” jumped to the top spot in 1998.  Puff Daddy’s dedication to the Notorious B.I.G., “I’ll Be Missing You” did it in 1997. And Michael Jackson’s “You Are Not Alone” was first to do it in 1995.

Are you surprised Em jumped to No. 1 so fast? Anxious to hear what Recovery has to offer? Let us know.

Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift, Lady Antebellum lead pack of 2010 CMT Music Awards nominees

Carrie-UnderwoodImage Credit: Bob Charlotte/PR PhotosYour 2010 CMT Music Awards nominees were announced today — sorry I’m a little slow in getting this up, news cycle! — and they’re a predictable pack. Carrie Underwood, Lady Antebellum, Jason Aldean, and Taylor Swift lead with three nominations each; everyone else in country music trails with two. Okay, I’m oversimplifying a bit, but no, really, it’s kinda everybody. After all, this is country music’s most democratic awards show — you kids can head over to CMT.com this very second and votevotevote for your faves, or they will lose, and it will be your fault.

Who are the standouts? I will be registering at least one click for Miranda “Off the Market” Lambert‘s clever “White Liar” vid (watch yourself, Blake), one for Brad Paisley’s “Welcome to the Future” clip, and one for the surprisingly wonderful Jason Aldean/Bryan Adams collabo on “Heaven.” I’ll be curious to see if Sugarland cancel themselves out in the Duo category (with the heartbreak of “Keep You” vs. the bubbles of “Nightswimming/Joey”), thus opening the door for Brooks & Dunn’s Very Last Win At The CMT Awards Ever OMG. And as far as snubs go, I guess ’bout now Martina McBride has gotta be wondering if she even works here anymore.

The ceremony will be held June 9 in Nashville, and at this point I am far less interested in your “awesome” host Kid Rock and far more interested in how CMT uses the ceremony to honor and celebrate (and hopefully raise money for) their poor drowned city. I know the network itself suffered damage had to relocate for several days during the flood, so I am certain they’ll step up and do it right.

Full list of noms after the jump; what do you think of the pack, Mixers? And who’s getting your vote? READ FULL STORY »

EW Exclusive: 'Twilight: Eclipse' soundtrack artists to be unveiled tomorrow on MySpace, verrry slowly

muse-eclipseImage Credit: Danny Clinch; Kimberley FrenchLast week, we learned that British rock lords Muse will return for a Twilight three-peat on the upcoming third soundtrack installment in as many movies for that obscure little book series (is it about werewolves? vampires? hobbits? We really can’t recall).

Anyhow, MySpace tells EW exclusively that they will unveil the full soundtrack roster for Twilight: Eclipse, beginning Wednesday, May 12, at 11am EST/8am PST … and continuing on for many hours, at the rate of one band reveal every half hour. (We will do our best to update you in real time here; you can also get the updates on Twitter via @MySpaceMusic).

Last chance to place the bets of your Twi-lives and tell us: Who will be keeping musical company with Muse by this time tomorrow?

The National, 'Bloodbuzz Ohio': Watch the acclaimed indie-rockers' new video

the-nationalImage Credit: Keith KlenowskiIf you have somehow missed the rapturous media-gasms surrounding sonorous Brooklyn rockers The National and their new album, High Violet, the video for “Bloodbuzz Ohio,” the band’s apparent first single from the album, may feel a little … anticlimactic.

But that, their many rabid fans will tell you, is part of the National’s deal; they don’t do flashy or wacky or straight-up David Lynch-ian art-shock bananas; though they do, apparently, do cameos by D.A. Pennebaker, the legendary documentary filmmaker best known for the 1967 Bob Dylan tour doc Don’t Look Back and David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. Drake gets double-crossed in 'Find Your Love' video: Watch here

Categories: Drake, Music Videos

drake-videoBoy, Drake wasn’t lying when he told us the ending to the video for his latest single, “Find Your Love,” would be “extreme.” Playing a sucker for love in the Anthony Mandler-directed clip, Drizzy falls for wrong woman. And not “wrong” like they’re not compatible. I mean “wrong” like her love will get you killed. The girl, played by model Maliah Michel, is actually sleeping with the enemy (reggae star Mavado). The six-minute video set in Jamaica has a mean plot twist that I will not ruin. Watch it after the jump.

Ke$ha, B.o.B., and Lady Antebellum: The death-metal YouTube covers you've been waiting for

keshaImage Credit: Anthony Delvin/PA Photos/Landov“Tik tok on the clock, but the party don’t … BLARGHGHGHGHGH!!!”

And thus, from the wood-paneled rec-room walls of Billboard Death Metal, a delicate flower of musical diversity blossoms.

The impressively focused group of hirsuite gentlemen behind BDM have now taken on, as their name implies, several recent top Billboard hits —including Ke$ha’s “Tik Tok,” Justin Beiber’s “Baby,” Rihanna’s “Rude Boy,” and Lady Antebellum’s “Need You Now”—and executed them in a style best described as “cookie monster hopped up on Metallica and bathtub meth.”

'Sex and the City 2': Listen to the new single from Jennifer Hudson and Leona Lewis

Jennifer Hudson and Leona Lewis declare that “Love is Your Color” on their single from the Sex and the City 2 soundtrack, which has now been released to the Internet. I thought anyone who was anyone was going to be seen in mauve polka dots this summer. But then, I’m more likely to be found reading Fangoria than the fashion mags.

I can say with a tad more authority that “Love is Your Color” is a big ballad that showcases the two stars’ respective talents, even if does at times sound not unlike another, similarly-titled, song by a certain Celebrity Apprentice contestant.

Check out the track after the break and see if you agree.

M.I.A.'s new single, 'XXXO': Now this is more like it

Categories: M.I.A., Music

m-i-aImage Credit: Jordan Strauss/WireImage.comWhew. Were you as scared as we were?  A few weeks back when M.I.A. released the first offering from her forthcoming third album — the punk bullhorned ruckus that is “Born Free” — we feared her next set would be a bust. But now she’s back with the “official” first single, “XXXO,” and our worries have been eased.  This techno-tinged dance record is what we hoped for from our Sri Lankan anti-pop star. It’s an aggressive but friendly love cut dressed up with playful lyrics. “I can be the actress. You can Tarantino,” she teases in one line. It’s the fun, naughty stuff we like.

Give it a listen after the jump and tell us what you think.
