Two years after her controversial American Idol run, Carly Smithson is still looking for her big break. She recently joined with several former members of Evanescence to form We Are the Fallen, a pop-metal band that sounds like…well, like Evanescence with Carly Smithson subbed in for Amy Lee. Personally, I wasn’t hugely wowed by We Are the Fallen’s debut, which hit the charts last month at a middling No. 33. All that said, they’ve just recorded a U2 cover for Billboard.com — and it’s actually kind of good!
The metalheads broke with type to take on “With or Without You” in an acoustic format. Smart move: Without all that gnashing guitar sludge on top, Smithson’s vocals get to shine. “With or Without You” is well suited to any singer with Smithson’s dramatic instincts. I didn’t really expect to for the reasons mentioned above, but I’m digging this.

That was pretty awesome. So far, I like We Are the Fallen. Their debut album was a mix bag, but when they’re good, they’re amazing. I hope they find their grove and become more popular.
I hope she has worked on her breathing problems. On AI she had a hard time finishing her songs with any power. Shame too.
I love Evanescence…and with how much I wanted to hate this band because of their beef with Amy (nothing against Carly…just her other members) I find myself liking their sound…because it is exactly the same…
Of course, it’s the same because Ben Moody wrote that first Evanescence album with Amy. So it’s not surprising.
