Ween has such a history of sold out tours and million selling albums…oh wait…they don’t.
But there is a point where DMB does have to have a touchstone for the casual fan. I saw them once and they did not play ANY “hits”, was tough because I did not know the material. Now I do.
This chick sucks as a concert reviewer. First of all who cares about going on and on about the heat. I am a HUGE DMB fan and the only thing I can say to her is if you wanna hear the hits then buy the CD. Dave notoriously plays very few of his hits when he does a live show. This chick can suck an egg. Fire her immediately EW there are so many better writers out looking for work!!
DMB=rehearsed improvisation..perfect description..they are bored and boring…
Saw it live (from the comfort of my home on YouTube, ha ha!), and I only came in just as Regina was performing (missed her first two songs). She was incredible as usual, but why the hell did they cut off the feed when she wasn’t even finished? That was beyond rude. Anyway, John Fogerty is incredibly solid for his age, I’m not familiar with his solo work or with Creedence Clearwater, but I enjoyed every song he performed. One of the best acts at Bonnaroo. Zac Brown band were good too, and as for Ween, yeah I don’t get their appeal either. Their guitarist is the only thing that made them tolerable for me. Rise Against performed, they were good. I respect the Dave Matthews Band, they’re obviously very talented, but their music literally bores me to sleep. I tried sitting through 3 songs, couldn’t take it anymore. I try very hard to get into their music, but I can’t. I just can’t.
wow, just looked up ween on wikipedia. I had no idea who they were. Now I think that they are a couple of nutcases. Also, it’s a dumb name.
Should have been there saturday. Could’ve seen the almighty Melvins. But it was super hot all weekend but rocked most excellent. Bonnaroo!
Ween is better than every other band at the festival. DMB are the worst band of all time. Sorry
I was at Bonnaroo and I think that this is a great summation. I don’t care for DMB so I left early, but if I did stay I would be so pissed if they didn’t play any of their hits. Remember, this is a 4 day music festival with a lot of people not there specifically for DMB. Bonnaroo wears you out. If you have to sit through 2 hours of DMB there as a casual fan without hearing one recognizable song I would predict it would be close to torture.
It felt like ants marching walking back to the tents after the show. I thought DMB was good. I have been to multiple ROOs and thought that this was by far the largest Sunday night crowd I have ever seen at the end of the show usually it is half empty at the What stage. Flaming Lips was incredible, never seen a rap concert and I thought Jay Z was awsome to say the least. Lotus show first night is already on internet archive- crowd was impresed with crazy train. Disco Biscuits were also impresive rining in the sunrise.
ants marching might be your favorite song but the fact that you didn’t get it shouldn’t ruin the whole show for you, or somehow ruin all expectations. and how can you write a review of a concert if you’re wearing earplugs during the concert?
Thanks for this great review. This Bonnaroo was my favorite yet, and this brings me back. One of my less favorite DMB performances, I was heading to bed when I came across my favorite new band of the weekend, Josh Phillips Folk Festival, at the Solar Stage. It’s random moments of discovery like this that makes Bonnaroo the best music festival in the US.
