Image Credit: Dimitrios Kambouris/WireImage.com “Under Pressure,” Dr. Dre’s collaboration with Jay-Z, seems to have leaked online this afternoon. The song’s imminent release was announced in early April before repeated delays tempered fans’ anticipation somewhat; just a few minutes ago, I was actually writing a post entitled “Whatever happened to ‘Under Pressure’?” Now it’s here, albeit in very unfinished-sounding form.
The leak, whose rough-take vibe I cannot stress enough, is not an immediate stunner. Dr. Dre takes the first verse, spitting some decently clever bars (presumably penned with help from Jay) over clubby bleeps and bloops. “Maybe I don’t want to stop, maybe I don’t want to quit,” he muses. “Maybe I’m crazy/Maybe I’m strapped right now, just bait me.” Dre raises his voice for some rousing words in Creole. Then, after a blank space where a hook might fit, it’s time for Jay-Z’s superior verse. Hov gets some snappy lines in, as when he informs us that life’s stresses have him “bringing guns to work, Gilbert Arenas.” And: “I’m in this party, I’m up to no good/And I should be ducking these clubs, Tiger Woods.” Given the timing of the two sports scandals he references, I wonder if Jay-Z recorded his verse any later than January. After another bit of negative space, Dre growls another partial verse. That’s it. Two and a half verses, no hooks, and this version of “Under Pressure,” at least, is out.
JUNE 17 UPDATE: Early this morning, Dr. Dre issued a statement about the leak. “I want to set the record straight for everybody who’s been waiting to hear my music,” he said through a publicist. “The song that’s on the Internet is an incomplete song that I’m still working on. When it’s ready, you’ll be hearing it from me.”
Have you heard “Under Pressure”? What do you think?

dre + Jay = underwhelming pressure
don’t go to numusiccartel.com freakin annoying watermark
There’s only one UNDER PRESSURE, and this isn’t it!
Vanilla Ice FTW!!!
Thank GOD they didn’t cover it.
Im excited that Dr.Dre is back
Dr dre’s Under Pressure sounds alot like a recycled version of “naughty girl”!!
This definitely isn’t the final version, though now that it’s leaked let’s hope it pushes Dre to release the actual one sooner. He said that he was waiting for Recovery to drop so I bet it happens next week.
the lyrics are described as “clever” and the next vs as “superior” and yet the lines are actually terrible., reading like a kid could’ve written them. as for the title “Under Pressure”…it’s just another title like Forever Young ripped off from an older, far better pop song. the rappers involved in both recent songs appear to have no lyrical or musical talent.
Unlike “Forever Young”, Under Pressure doesn’t sample the Queen/David Bowie song, it just has the same title. So your criticism is moot.
I said the title was ripped off, which it was. I said nothing about sampling at all. the lines quoted above are amateurish garbage revealing that Dre and Z can’t write.
Apparently the song isn’t the only amateurish garbage on this page…the name of the Jay-Z song is Young Forever, the name of the song he samples is Forever Young. Look it up.
“presumably penned with help from Jay” ?? I doubt it, this is Dre we’re talkin’ about
If either Dre or Jay dies nine years from now, then we will know that the song title is cursed.
It’s crap. I’m sorry, but it really is. How in the hell do two hip-hop giants come up with this massive disappointment? Underwhelming is the nicest word to describe it. This is not the way to make a comeback, Mr. Dre. And Mr. Bowie and Mr. Mercury would NOT be pleased with this, either (yes, yes, I know this doesn’t have anything to do with the other “Under Pressure”, but you’d hope that another song of the same name that also features two of the most popular and respected artists would actually live up to all the hype).
How old are these guys? like 40?
Dre n Jay-Z…. Pac would be rollin in his grave right now
If he were really dead.
“Rapper Jay-Z (b. S. Carter) died today at Sloan Kettering hospital in Manhattan, NY. The rapper has spent the last 2 years fighting an ongoing and quiet battle with prostate cancer. “We had such hope” a family member speaking on condition of anonymity explained. “He had gone into remission some time back, maybe 2 years or so but lately he just wasn’t looking right.” Jay-Z along with Eminem were set to co-headline two very special performances in Comerica Park and Yankees Stadium in Detroit and NY respectively. At this point it is unclear of the exact cause of death. He is survived by his wife, Beyonce Knowles. He was 40 and will surely be missed by the hip hop community. We will update you with more details as they emerge”
