Image Credit: Mick Hutson/Redferns/Getty Images“These are songs that have great memories for me,” says Vince Neil of the tracks he covers on his new CD out today, Tattoos & Tequila. “This is a window into my life.”
The Mötley Crüe frontman’s life is increasingly that of an entrepeneur—one whose business interests actually include a brace of tattoo parlors in Vegas, where he lives. Neil’s latest corporate venture? A luxury air charter service called Vince Neil Aviation. The rocker seems genuinely disappointed when your reporter suggests some people might balk at the idea of flying on a rock star-owned plane. “My planes are pretty bad a–,” says the singer. “They have hot rod flames on them and a leopard-skin interior. But they’re regulated by the FAA. This isn’t like, ‘Hey bro, let’s go party!’”
After the jump, Neil pilots us back to the past to ruminate upon some of his Tattoos & Tequila cover choices.
“He’s A Whore”
As a teenager, Vince Neil frequently performed this Cheap Trick track with his “party band” Rock Candy
“We would find some guy who didn’t have a lot of friends, but his family would be away, and say, ‘Hey man, we’ll have a party at your house!’ We would charge a dollar, get somebody to buy beers for us, and have three, four hundred people in somebody’s backyard. When we’d run out of songs we’d call the police on ourselves and take home three or four hundred bucks.”
“No Feelings”
Originally recorded by the Sex Pistols and frequently listened to by a pre-fame Neil when he was working as an electrician
“I was actually a great electrician. We used to build the drive-thrus at McDonalds. I was a foreman. I was the boss! The Bollocks album is a classic. It’s one of my all-time favorite albums.”
“Another Piece of Meat”
Metal anthem from German rockers the Scorpions
“The Scorpions opened for Mötley on a whole tour. We’ve been friends for a long time. Last Saturday, in Baltimore, they actually asked me to come onstage and sing the song. So I’m singing ‘Another Piece of Meat,’ with the Scorpions, which is one of my all-time favorite bands. It was one of the great moments of my life.”
“Who’ll Stop the Rain”
Oft-covered Creedence Clearwater Revival hit
“My dad turned me on to Creedence. It was one of those songs that just sticks with you. It’s been redone a lot of times. People were going, ‘Are you sure you want to redo the song? Because Rod Stewart’s redone it, and all these people…’ I go, ‘Yeah. But so? I want to do it!’”

Ugh. Why bother with a solo album, Vince? Your voice is shot. One of the worst frontmen in rock history if you’ve ever seen the Crue live. He’s always out of breath. He’ll sing a few lines and try to get the audience to sing the rest.
It’s just sad.
Why bother? Why do u bother getting up and going to your job? Its just sad that u r jealous, waking up to your average life with your below average wife. What band were u in and how many albums did u sell?
another wash-up rehashing songs from others & clogging what’s left of music store bins. what a waste of plastic.
The Crue was in the top 3 grossing touring acts of the past 3 years, dont sound to washed up to me. In fact i cant think of any band that has came out in the past 15 years that has sold as many albums, come to think of it i cant think of any band that has came out in the past 15 years that is still around to be called washed up. Go listen to creed and shut up
Stop hating on Vince. He’s a Rock n Roll Hero!
Really?
My heroes don’t kill other people while their drunk driving.
Keith Moon ran over his limo driver, why was he driving the limo? bcuz rock stars do crazy things i am sure all u people writing here know someone that has got a DUI, did u lose respect for those people?
