i was at the nyc show on the 22nd and at the foxwoods show, and let me tell you slezak, you got it right referring to the acoustic whole lotta love as being the climax of the show! those of us that are die-hard adam fans have seen when he 1st unleashed that masterpiece at his fantasy springs show. go find the u2b’s; it’s like experiencing the best sex you ever had. i prayed he’d do this encore at my show and he did it at both, so i feel lucky, since he doesn’t alwyas close with it. he toned the sex down for the glam nation tour a little, but the vocals killed. i’ve seen robert plant live, and though a fan, i’ve watched plant’s acoustic version and there is NO comparison to Adam Lambert’s. Adam’s version is simply superior vocally and what Adam can do with the song and with his body to bring the audience into a frenzy is unreal. trust me, everyone needed a cigarette after!
the rest of the performance was unbelievable. nobody out there now is as much of an all-around performer like adam. his command of the stage and his vocals will have me buying tickets and records as often as possible.
glad you found a new appreciation for aftermath, slezak. it is an amazing song. i know no other artist that changes his own songs so many ways. there must be at least a dozen versions on u2b of him singing whataya want from me and other songs from his album too. it is that ability to be a chameleon and a musical genius that will draw the crowds for a long time to come. the fact that all ages appreciate him is a testament to the quality of his work. you don’t see “women of a certain age” running out on a tuesday to see the fetus, er, bieber, unless they are forced to take a minor. why? because it’s not good music that can stand the test of time and we prefer to save our $ if it’s all auto-tuned. the fact that adam can sound even better live than his records is astounding. we’re paying for astounding and adam lambert is providing it, in spades!
I was at the concert with the actual “middle-aged woman from New Zealand”. Not only was I offended by your dismissive description of her, but your assessment of the audience was way off base. The audience at the Nokia on the 23rd skewed much younger than what you stated. I saw a terrific, diverse mix – husbands, boyfriends, cute gay guys, tweens, teens, twentysomethings and on up- but mostly what I saw what would be described (as anyone with actual eyesight) as “younger people”.
I agree. I was there that same night and the audience covered all age ranges. In fact, I had a couple of 40-something women to the right of me, a giant group of 20-something women to the left of me, a gay guy in front of me (who claimed to have been in the front row at Adam’s live acoustic VH1 videos… in fact, I do think I remember his face, lucky b*stard) and even a young Mom who had brought a 6-year-old (which was kinda weird, seeing as how the Ticketmaster ticket I had said no one under 16 would be admitted…). It was a really diverse audience age-wise. And, you’re not mentioning… there were a fair number of straight men of all ages too. And not all of them were there with their wives or girlfriends.
I was at the June 23rd concert in NYC, and it was incredible. Particularly, I want to call out Whole Lotta Love, since I am a long-time, hard core Led Zep and Robert Plant fan, and even went to see Plant on his recent “Raising Sand” tour (incredible). And I love, love, love what Adam did with WLL. In fact, I kinda wish Robert Plant would check out a live tape of it, and give us a comment, so that all the rabid Zep fans who can’t stand to see a song made fresh will finally get it. Slash and Meatloaf have already told the world that they’re hard-core Adam fans, so who-what-where sitting on his big butt out in Indiana wearing that old black concert t-shirt might want to get a clue. This is it. Adam is the future of classic rock, and he’s got the only voice out there that can handle it.
Adam is a fantastic talent! I don’t know if he is suited for the type of performer to do “chart toppers”. However, he is ideal for touring and concerts.
Great for him. The big money is no longer in selling “records”…..the big money for all of the artists has been touring and marketing!
When Adam was participating on American Idol, he used to act humble and he used to dress better. But now, he dressed like a clown. He looks horrible.
A little surprised that a NYC crowd was so lacking in diversity, according to this article, anyway. At the Milwaukee show, I was happy to see the sort of diversity I remember as a native New Yorker but seldom see living out here in the midwest: black /white /Asian /Latino, men /women /unknown. gay /straight /unknown. Couples /groups /single ticket holders. The youngest person I saw was a five year old girl and the oldest looked to be about 65 and I saw a nearly equal number of teens and people over the age of 40. So a hugely diverse crowd and I would have been lying if I said it was mostly women 30-50+. So it’s surprising that NYC had less diversity than Milwaukee.
I wish Adam didn’t feel the need to wear soooo much foundation and other make-up to be glam. I think being glam should embrace his naturally freckled face and working with that. He makes it so obvious that he doesn’t really like that about himself so I have a hard time listening to him and taking him seriously. He’s still a great vocal talent, there’s no denying that!
Because he has an insecurity like all of us, including you, you can’t take him seriously. How arrogant you must be. He wears the make-up for the stage but said that when he’s on downtime, he doesn’t. People are so judgmental.
Yeah, his facial skin looks terrible without the make up (acne ? )
Your Nz lady is not the only one coming a long way – I am coming from Auckland, NZ to Costa Mesa show in July and there are lots of others coming to the same shows. ‘Whole lotta love’ here from the Kiwis!
I am a bit late because I am on my last day of vacation and found this in a search of Adam Lambert. Any article with Adam and Allison together always gets my attention because they were the two most talented contestants on AI last year IMO. But I have to laugh, especially at Todd and Jenny because I wonder why they are reading articles about Adam plus taking the time to read comments. I truly don’t understand why people are jealous/resentful of other people’s talent. If they don’t like Adam they don’t have to read about him or buy his music, etc., plain and simple. And, again, I love seeing Adam and Allison together…he didn’t forget his little sis…
I agree Allison’s set should be longer as she is a really good singer and Orthanti should be shorter…It gets old after the 3rd show…I dread her part after 10 minutes…..Give Allison more songs..
I have been to a lot of concerts, and Adam Lambert is the best entertainer I have ever, ever seen. He is sooo talented, gifted, incredible, intense, sexual, beautiful, not enough adjectives to describe him. Girls love him, women love him, boys love him, men love him—-I JUST WANT TO EAT HIM UP!!!
