People are willing to spend money on something they care about. Maybe nobody cares.

Not to be overly harsh, but perhaps all the expectations people had for this tour were based on people’s interest in her, stemming from her domestic violence situation. Once that dissipated, all they were left with was fairly mediocre music and showmanship. Or maybe this just isn’t the type of music that gains anything from being heard in a live setting, and so thus the lack of interest.

You fake media outlets need to start telling the truth! Rihanna’s camp claims she cancelled dates due to scheduling conflicts! WAIT, if you are the HEADLINER shouldn’t you know in ADVANCE where to stand and hold the mic? That is a complete lie! This recurring media “flub” that Rihanna is concelling concert dates because of the economy is also a complete fabrication when Lady GaGa and Justin Bieber are selling out arena’s all across the country. Also, everyone and their mother just dropped $300.00 to $500.00 for an iphone! If they wanted to attend her concert I’m sure they would have scraped up the money to see her. The truth is that NO ONE WANTS TO SEE THIS CHICK LIVE! The pop radio station in my hometown tried to give her tickets away and no one would call in for them. The then try to give them to anyone who called the radio station to request a song…any song by any artist not even a Rihanna song. You ppl in the media can twist this story any way you like but this girl cannot sellout large venues. AND STOP TRYING TO BLAME KE$HA, she’s only the supporting cast! Rihanna is suppose to be the big draw!

Oh yeah I forgot to add, I’m pretty sure EW will list Chris Brown as the reason Rihanna can’t sell tickets!

WHERE’S TINA TURNER TO SHOW THESE YOUNG FOLKS HOW YOU LAUNCH AND COMPLETE A SUCCESSFUL TOUR.

I think there are alot of VARIED opinions and some have a realm of truth to them. Bettyann brings up a VERY good point about people dropping all that money on a new iPhone, as well as summer vacations & getaways. Has summer vacations effected summer concerts in the past!? NO. NOT REALLY, since most of the Wall Street/financial crisis came to a head LAST September AFTER most families and folks’ had already gone away. Secondly, even after LiveNation SLASHED fees during June and even had offers for $10 Lawn Seats for Rihanna, Ke$ha & Travie McCoy (who has now replaced Nicki Minaj), The Lillith Fair and even John Mayer dates, the problem isn’t JUST the inflated ticket prices. Follow me:
John Mayer JUST toured this winter (I saw him in Philly in January, AWESOME SHOW!) Would I see him then again in 3 area outside arena dates (Camden, NJ, Scranton, PA, Hershey, PA)!? PROLLY NOT.
The Lillith Fair. Aww Whitney, you’ve wrote so many beloved posts on the tour stops being canceled, and this is Sarah’s 1st new album and tour in many years, but you’ve also FAILED to mention that part of the problem with the NEW Lillith is that due to the large constantly-changing set of artists on each stop, fans in different cities are forced to be SATISFIED with whomever rolls into their city!At the Philly/Camden stop, other than Sarah, the ONLY artists I care to see is Janelle Monae & Sara Bareilles (such an awesome, sweet down-to-earth girl) WHO prolly will perform DURING the afternoon when MOST people have to work or TAKE off of work since the festival starts during the day! And YES< many would have to take off of work, since evnthough Philly/Camden is one of the largest cities in the U.S., the tour is rolling into town on a Wednesday afternoon.
Now, finally, Rihanna's "Last Girl On Earth" Tour. Let me start by saying, I LOVE Rihanna, both her music & as a person. I've met the girl, had conversations & she seemed very honest & sincere. The problem though is what many of have said. She has TONS of radio hits, but is still finding herself as a performer. I think LiveNation was hoping this eccentric tour finally helped her become a live attraction. The problem is that this album hasn't exactly been her best. "Rude Boy" is the ONLY real hit on the dark disc. "Rockstar 101" was serviced to radio back at the beginning of June…no one is biting. No one wants to play "Te Amo" because of the lesbian video. There is no current summer single with which to support this ambitious tour, ON TOP of the fact that both Ke$ha & Rihanna have horrible reviews as live performers.
I realize its magazines like EW that have to constantly purport what's GOOD in the world of Music, Movies & TV, but the media need to start being more honest. This summer's entertainment is a pile of crap. IN ALL REGARDS. Movie ticket sales are down, digital sales of music is down, and now concert ticket sales are causing shows to be canceled left & right. There are def. OTHER things besides Gaga, Glee, & Twilight that are working right now. Whatever happened to the EW PopWatch blogs or Music Mix blogs where people shared what they were currently listening to on their iPods?! I went through & downloaded a ton of new stuff from them. Y'all should seriously make Slezak Bring them back, ASAP (Just NO Idol insapired ones, thanks!).

It’s sad that the tour is struggling in ticket sales. I wasn’t a big Rihanna fan but I purchased tickets to see her and Ke$ha ’cause I thought it’d be a fun show to see. She completely BLEW ME AWAY. The show was terrific: energetic, detailed, dramatic, and Rihanna was incredibly charismatic, sounded great, and actually moved pretty well. I was utterly impressed. Her show is 100X better than anything a little teenager could put on. Nothing against Justin, but he simply doesn’t have the kind of performing experience Rihanna does. Either way, I hope ticket sales pick up for Rihanna. She was worth every penny, and then some.

People aren’t feeling the “dark soul in the night” vibe of RiRi’s current era. That plus she sucks live and ticket prices are outrageous means people are gonna pass. It’s not rocket science, just bad marketing.

  • LISA

I GUESS THEY FINALLY GET SHE CAN’T PERFORM SHE IS ONLY A STUDIO PERSON!

  • Stephanie

Not really suprising. Rihanna isn’t an impressive live performer and since her opening act blows I doubt people want to pay the money for tickets. Besides, the fact that Rated R was extremely underwhelming doesn’t help either.

I won free tix to this concert and had to ask “what’s a Rihanna?” all I got on search was news of her cancellations and the whole bf beat up thing. I’m with you guys, she oversold herself. Class is not necessary, but earning a name for more than being a domestic violence victim is. She needs to work her way up and build fans like everyone else b4 doing arena shows. Now I can’t even give these away as the Atlanta venue is cancelled. Good luck on her future… Blame the producers, not the “artist”
