There is a song called ‘Mad World’ that I stilened to like a lifeline in my lowest moments ever. Now it’s 8 years later and I still can’t hear that song without a weird whirlwind of emotions: relief at having survived it, memories of sadness, a trace of the scars in my mind wincing like a scene from Harry Potter(!)… when my bf revealed his porn addiction to me in Dec 2010 I had that song relentlessly running around my head for days. Wouldn’t it be crazy if as a songwriter you found out all the personal associations people have with your songs?! I agree with you about music. I’m a musician and can trace my life through the music I associate with each event. Thanks for the fab blog…
