Image Credit: Jason LaVeris/FilmmagicR&B romantics the world over were dealt a blow when singer-songwriter The-Dream announced his separation from singer Christina Milian this week. The power couple wed just last September and welcomed a daughter this March. Now The-Dream has addressed the rampant speculation about what caused the split in an open letter on his official site.
The most explosive headline from the letter comes near the end, when The-Dream reveals that he’s considered suicide: “I’ve cried about this for months, after interviews, after prayer and I’ve tried to take my own life at a point because of the failure that was looming.” Thankfully, he seems to have moved past that point now.
Despite recent paparazzi photos of The-Dream and an assistant frolicking on a beach, he firmly denies that cheating was an issue. “I would love to tell the truth as to why my relationship wasn’t successful, but today that is between me and Christina,” he writes. “It’s easy to say that it’s because of another woman or a new relationship but truthfully, IT’S NOT.” He also takes “FULL RESPONSIBILITY” for concealing problems in the marriage from the public. “If there’s anyone to blame and you can’t fathom this happening, please blame me and me alone for not being upfront! Even though we were trying to overcome personal things between us, I was just simply scared and embarrassed to let everyone know we WERE FAILING and HAVE NOW FAILED!”
The-Dream’s reps did not immediately reply to a request for further comment. Read the full letter at his website and let us know what you think.

Maybe his marriage failed because he refused to care for his child? I’m paraphrasing here, but he said in a recent interview that he doesn’t help out with the baby because then Christina will expect it and it should just be Christina and the nanny taking care of him. Just saying…
I read that too – he said he didn’t really “help” because he was afraid it would become an expectation. An expectation that a man would care for his child? Heaven forbid.
his new cd is tankly badly, so he needs ALL the publicity (good or bad) that he can generate. This guy is a douchebag (check out his prev baby-mama drama)
He’s a moron.
I don’t know what Christina Milian was thinking, actually she probably was thinking he could fix her broke azz career. But it’s not worth it, I would rather flip burgers instead of do anything with him. Look at him, he looks like a Weeble.
BUT THEY JUST GOT MARRIED! THEY JUST HAD A BABY! WHY ARE THEY BREAKING UP LIKE THAT? MAYBE THEY SHOULD HAVE TAKEN TIME TO KNOW EACH OTHER BEFORE THEY GOT MARRIED! THIS IS GOING TO BE A WHOLE BUNCH OF PERSONAL AND LEGAL MESS. I hope he doesn’t take his own life! All those great records he’s done for himself, with producer Christopher Stewart (those 50 to 60 songs in 2009!) and for countless artists–he’s too talented to do something destructive to himself like that!
Wish he would have said something sooner. I’d have gladly helped.
The only thing he is upset about is getting busted with his mistress, frolicking on the beach with her legs wrapped around his torso.
The letter seem to be more about himself and not about what he has done to Christina and his child. My opinion is he isnt much of a man and its really sad that he has to bring the Lord in it. Was he thinking about the Lord when he was cheating with his assistant? I think not…
You know all those rumblings about how this will be hif LAST cd?! I think he should stay true to that, and just continue to write/produce for other artists. Thats the problemw ith everyone today, they wnana be EVERYTHING singer/song-writer/actor/producer/Olympian…you should stick to what you’re good at & stop trying to have everything because CLEARLY in doing so, you’re ignoring or giving up certain aspects of your life (your wife & child). A word to the other hip-hop producers out there. STOP GETTING WOMEN PREGNANT & THEN MOVING ONTO THE NEXT WOMAN LIKE ITS YOUR NEXT CD. (Swizz & Mashonda now Alicia, The-Dream & Nivea then Christina) Separate your work form your personal life, cause CLEARLY its been SO wonderful for many of y’all….
And you know what!? At the end of the day, its NONE of my business but as a gay man, who can’t really get married, its un-nerving and heart-breaking to have to CONSTANTLY read about your fools starting relationships, making children who become casualties of the love war & then moving on. Its disgusting, esp. when y’all start making R&B songs like y’all are some kings & queens of love. YOU’RE CLEARLY NOT.
The-Dream is a loser. I’m so glad I never spent any of my money on any of his music. He only penned this letter due to low record sales.
Too bad he was unsucessful
Sheesh he really was a failure! Couldn’t even get the suicide right? Don’t give up Mr. Dream! YOU CAN DO IT!!!
I’m pro-marriage and believe that people should really try to work it out. But c’mon…did we really believe this was gonna last? *smh*
He’s a failure as a husband, as a father and as a man in general. All in all, he’s a complete EPIC FAIL. Christina deserves better than that piece of garbage.
Can you say damage control letter? Boy please…
