If I hadn’t known that Gwyneth Paltrow was the person singing “Country Strong,” I’d never have guessed. She sings her new single like she was born and raised in Nashville. That’s good news for Paltrow’s upcoming film of the same name, in which she plays a country singer whose career has seen better days. Based on “Country Strong,” which was serviced to radio today, she seems to have the accent and delivery down pat.
Other than that, it’s a well-sanded country-pop construction. “‘Cause I’m country strong,” Paltrow cries out over slick wall-of-fiddles production, “hard to break, like the ground I grew up on.” Those feel like the kind of empowering lyrics that could connect with listeners. Vince Gill and Patty Griffin sing backup, providing some extra country cred.
Check out “Country Strong” at The Boot and let us know what you think of Paltrow’s singing. Country Strong, which co-stars Tim McGraw and Leighton Meester, hits theaters Dec. 22. Are you looking forward to it?

weird. the whole concept of this movie, and the somewhat seemingly aged track, has me spinning in the early 90′s…yet, i’m ridiculously intrigued. RETRO GWEN!
everything about this song is mediocre. meh.
Ah, but she sang a cover of “Cruising” with Huey Lewis for a different movie a while ago. I read that she was going to do an album after that but decided not to.
She doesn’t have a strong voice, but she sounds good. Kinda curious about the film now.
Nice surprise! Granted I’m partial to “Cruisin’.” I LOVED her duet with Huey Lewis back from the early 00′s, but this wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Actually, it’s pretty darn good! I’ll be interested to see what the movie has to offer…uh oh! She’s singing, playing a has-been musician AND she was in re-hab? Gwyneth…jockeying for Oscar #2?
Cheesey. But her vocals are a million times better than Cruisin. I’m a little surprised she is actually this talented. Must be nice to be an oscar winner, married to a rock star, born from hollywood royalty, Madonna’s pal, and actually be a better singer than half the popstars out there.
Hmmph. Next for Gwen…. win the powerball? achieve world peace?
supposedly she’s not friends with Madonna anymore……probably b/c she has a better voice than Madonna lol
Better than any of the crap from American Idol.
Was this movie originally called Love Don’t Let Me Down…?
Yes.
Meh. It sounds like exactly what it is – someone trying to impersonate a country singer.
Oh geez..she’s singing again? I thought her first song with Huey Lewis many years ago sucked bad. This woman cannot sing!!!
Seems weird to relase this 5 months before the theatrical release. Even more weird that the soundtrack will be released 2 months in advance of the film opening.
Wow, not only can she not act, she can’t sing either.
Sounds pretty good!
Gwyneth is a GODDESS. She can do no wrong.
Wow, it struck me, besides excellent actress she can also sing, probably go ahead for a new career.
Wow, people on here are awfully jealous of someone with talent when they clearly have NONE.
