Eminem slams Kanye West over Taylor Swift incident: 'He shouldn't have done that.'

kanye-eminemImage Credit: Eminem: Nigel ParryIn the new issue of Spin, cover star Eminem offers his opinion on the incident at last year’s MTV Video Music Awards when Kanye West stormed the stage while Taylor Swift was accepting the award for Best Female Video.

“He shouldn’t have done that,” says the Detroit rapper, who is currently No. 1 on the Billboard album charts with his Recovery CD. “I mean, she’s a little girl.” Eminem also recalls how, during a personally bleak period a few years ago, he became jealous of Lil Wayne’s success and considered releasing a track dissing both the New Orleans rapper and West, before he thought better of it. “It would have been career suicide,” he claims.

Do you think Eminem is right to criticize West? Or do you think his words are hypocritical, given how many people he himself has attacked in rhyme over the years?

T.I. and Keri Hilson stay true in their 'Got Your Back' video: Watch here

In the new video for T.I. and Keri Hilson’s “Got Your Back,” an actor plays an imprisoned man sustained by the love of a loyal lady back home. This must be a subject near and dear to the heart of T.I., who spent much of 2009 behind bars on a weapons conviction. His own real-life longtime love, former Xscape singer Tameka “Tiny” Cottle, even makes a sweet cameo with Tip at the very end of the clip.

The rest of the video shows the two main performers grooving to “Got Your Back” in various well-chosen outfits, often while separated by a symbolic wall. Check it out after the jump and let us know what you think, and if you’re looking forward for T.I.’s King Uncaged to arrive this September. READ FULL STORY »

Justin Timberlake makes his directorial debut with tequila ads: Exclusive photos!

Justin Timberlake has scored some choice roles as an actor lately — did you catch him in that trailer for The Social Network? But he’s never gone behind the camera until now. Timberlake is making his directorial debut with a new ad campaign for 901 Silver Tequila, the liquor brand he launched last year. The “At Liberty” campaign features three spots directed by the singer. And we have the first-ever sneak peeks of Justin on the set right here.

Surrounded by the ordinary, his presence symbolizes superior quality and the desire to strive higher.” READ FULL STORY »

Jack White performs Beatles song at White House for Paul McCartney, Obama: Watch it here

jack-whiteImage Credit: Shirlaine Forrest/WireImage.comStanding in front of the leader of the free world and perhaps the greatest living pop icon in the world, performing one of said icon’s own songs? NBD, dudes.

It’s been a long road for Mr. Jack White from Hotel Yorba to the White House, but the White Stripes frontman/Raconteur/Dead Weather-er/hair artiste keeps his wits about him—while seeming appropriately subdued—in a performance of the 1968 Lennon/MccCartney ballad “Mother Nature’s Son,” from the upcoming Paul McCartney Gershwin Prize special, set to air on PBS July 28.

The show will feature Paul himself, as well as Stevie Wonder, Elvis Costello, Dave Grohl, Emmylou Harris, Herbie Hancock and … the Jonas Brothers. (Malia and Sasha, your vote has been counted).

See White’s solo acoustic performance—to a head-nodding, toe-tapping ‘Bama and Macca—below:

Jerry Garcia biopic in the works: Who should play him?

Categories: Grateful Dead

jerry-garciaImage Credit: Tom Copi/Michael Ochs Archives/Getty ImagesJerry Garcia could be coming soon to a theater near you. Variety reports that a feature film about the late Grateful Dead leader is starting to take form, with a script based on author Robert Greenfield’s thoroughly readable oral biography, Dark Star. So who should the filmmakers cast to play Garcia?

Since Topper Lilien’s script is said to focus on the singer’s pre-Dead years, they’ll need someone on the younger side. Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s face shares a certain sly quality with Garcia’s before he covered it up with shades and facial hair. A more predictable choice might be Seth Rogen, who can pull off the perma-stoned grin that this part will likely require. Eugene Levy is way too old by now, which is too bad, since he bore a distinct resemblance to Jerry in some of the fake album art from A Mighty Wind.

I bet you have some even better casting ideas than those. Which actor do you think was born to play Jerry Garcia? Suggest away!

Christina Aguilera gets her heart broken in 'You Lost Me' video: Watch here

christina-aguileraHer last video wasn’t the most original work of art she could offer, but this time around Christina Aguilera has some quality material on her hands. She released the video for her latest single “You Lost Me” this morning. The ballad is about a man who cheated on her and eventually left. In the video, Christina’s in an Inception-like dreamworld. She starts off teary-eyed in a bedroom, then drifts into a cave-like pit before fighting off the guy who couldn’t keep his hands to himself. Check out the Anthony Mandler-directed video after the jump.

'Scott Pilgrim vs. The World' soundtrack: Hear a bonus track from Beck

Categories: Beck, Music, Soundtracks

scott-pilgrim-beckImage Credit: Rui M. Leal/Getty ImagesIf you’re looking for a film to see this summer in which Michael Cera battles superpowers-possessing villains and plays Beck-penned tunes in a Toronto indie band, then there’s really just one choice: Eat, Pray, Love. Only joking! I actually refer, of course, to the new Edgar Wright-directed comedy Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, which is out August 13.

The deluxe edition of the Scott Pilgrim soundtrack will feature a clutch of bonus tracks by Beck. One, “Summertime,” is available for download from iTunes right now. You can check out the song below. Give the sucker a listen, and tell us what you think.

Rage Against the Machine boycott Arizona over immigration law; other bands indifferent. Which side are you on?

rage-against-the-machineImage Credit: Jeff Chiu/AP ImagesNoted wallflowers (is joke) Rage Against the Machine are playing their first L.A. gig in 10 years this Friday, as part of a protest against Arizona law SB 1070, which requires police to investigate anyone they suspect of being an illegal immigrant. Rage will team up with Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band for the show, hoping to raise money for organizations challenging the bill, which goes into effect at the end of the month. The show is also part of the SoundStrike boycott of the state, putting Rage and Oberst in a league of artists including Nine Inch Nails, Chris Rock, Maroon 5, Kanye West, My Morning Jacket, Steve Earle, and Sonic Youth, all of whom refuse to play shows within the Arizona borders.

Meanwhile, according to Reuters, other acts like Lady Gaga, Stone Temple Pilots, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Brad Paisley and KISS are ignoring the boycott, and going ahead with planned shows in the now-controversial state.

It’s no surprise that Rage Against the Machine are protesting something; this is a band that would boycott the opening of an envelope, if the envelope happened to have particularly oppressive capitalistic leanings. (We don’t need a letter opener, we’ll break in!) But given the general outcry over the Arizona law — and the fact that the Justice Department and others have already launched lawsuits to block its enforcement — is it surprising that more bands aren’t following suit? In this summer’s soft touring economy, can they not afford it? Or do they just not want to get involved?

Which side are you on, Mixers? Is it the responsibility of a band to let their political leanings inform their musical choices? Or would you prefer the separation of art and state? Sound off!

Mike Posner talks graduating college, scoring a summer smash, and who 'Cooler Than Me' is really about

Categories: Mike Posner, Q&A

MPosnerImage Credit: Timothy SaccentiWhen this year began, Mike Posner was just another Duke University senior — albeit one who happened to have a major-label record deal and several buzzy mixtapes under his belt. Today, two months after picking up his diploma, he has one of the biggest songs in the country with top 10 hit “Cooler Than Me.” I recently caught up with the amiable bro, whose debut album, 31 Minutes to Takeoff, hits Aug. 10. Read on for our conversation.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Was “Cooler Than Me” inspired by anyone in particular?
MIKE POSNER: Yeah. There’s a girl at Duke that it’s about. But she’ll remain nameless. I don’t think she deserves any notoriety.

Does she know the song is about her?
I think so. I’m not really in contact with her. But when I went back to Duke to graduate, she made a pass at me and she got rejected.

Was it hard to finish those last couple of semesters at Duke knowing that your music career was starting to take off?
Yeah, it was incredibly difficult. But I knew it was going to be hard when I made the decision to go back [as a senior]. I signed the record deal after my junior year in school. I realized that a lot of people in my family had sacrificed for me to have the opportunity to go to a place like Duke. I owed it to them to finish. I graduated with a 3.6. I hope you’re reading, Mom! Katy Perry reveals the artwork for her new CD: It's... sweet!

Categories: Katy Perry, Music Videos

Will-Cotton-katy-perryImage Credit: Will CottonIn New York today, artist Will Cotton unveiled a portrait of Katy Perry which will feature on the cover of her due-out-August 24 CD Teenage Dream. Cotton’s work also inspired the video for Perry’s hit “California Gurls,” on which he acted as artistic director. Perry herself was present for the unveiling at Cotton’s Manhattan studio.

“The day I found Will Cotton, I knew I wanted to live in his cinematic cotton candy world,” the singer said in a statement. “A fantastically art-directed music video and one piece of timeless album artwork later, I can proudly say I am more than a fan.”

You can see an image of the painting above. Certainly it seems to fit in with Perry’s naughty-but-nice persona.

But what do you think of this latest trip by the star into “cotton candy world”?
