Eminem's 'Love The Way You Lie' pushes Katy Perry's 'Gurls' to No. 2 on Billboard Hot 100 chart

eminem-katy-perryImage Credit: Karin Catt; Ari MichelsonKaty Perry‘s “California Gurls” reigned at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for six weeks. But it’s over now. When the entire chart is released tomorrow, Eminem‘s Rihanna-assisted “Love The Way You Lie” will be No. 1 and Perry No. 2. This is the Detroit rapper’s fourth Hot 100 No. 1. single, and the second from his latest, Recovery. His first single from this album, “Not Afraid,” debuted at No. 1. Em’s having an amazing day; this morning we reported that he’s also got the No. 1 album in the country again.

No one new entered the top 10 this week. B.o.B’s “Airplanes” stays at No. 3, Taio Cruz’s “Dynamite” moves from No. 6 to No. 4. Usher’s former No. 1, “OMG,” drops one place to No. 5. Mike Posner’s “Cooler Than Me” moves up one to No. 6. While “Billionaire” by Travie McCoy falls two places to No. 7. “I Like It” by Enrique Iglesias holds at No. 8. Drake’s “Find Your Love” stays at No. 9. And Jason Derulo’s “Ridin’ Solo” remains at No. 10.

What do you think of Eminem’s run? Are you a fan of Recovery and it’s singles? Think Katy can regain her No. 1 spot? Let us know.

'American Idol' season 9 tour: Newark, we have a problem

american-idol-concertImage Credit: Robert E. Klein/AP ImagesFor an American Idol junkie like myself, the annual “Idols Live!” concert tour is typically a perfectly timed dessert soufflé; served a good month or two after the overwhelming smorgasbord of the preceding Idol season, it provides a chance to see how the top 10 finishers fare when they’re out from under the pressure of Simon Cowell’s critiques, that notoriously grueling weekly TV schedule, and the inscrutable voting whims of the public. Last night’s season 9 showcase from the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ, however, failed to follow that sweet script. To be fair, a few contestants achieved frothy new heights, but the bulk of the show had the distinctive whiff of a piece of cake that’s been lingering in the back of the fridge since late May.

The current crop of touring Idols could take a few cues from Aaron Kelly, one of the few performers who seemed to understand that when your set lasts all of three songs, you’d best kick things off with something that’s high octane and stylistically comfortable. READ FULL STORY »

Taylor Momsen's 'scandalous' new video 'Miss Nothing' : Gossip Girl on a platter

Taylor-Momsen-video She’s totally not Miley, you guys! She can objectify her own self without any help from stupid Disney, dammit! Or anything resembling dignity. Or pants.

That’s the message Gossip Girl star and The Pretty Reckless frontwoman-child Taylor Momsen seems determined to drive home in every raccoon-eyed, shredded-thigh-high rebel yell she issues in interviews, on unsuspecting sidewalks, and now, in her latest video, for the single “Miss Nothing.”

I can’t lie; I moderately enjoy the whole late-period Garbage/Hole rock-vixen redux thing she’s working on the band’s new EP. In its own shamelessly derivative way, “Makes Me Wanna Die” is kind of a great Shirley Manson approximation, despite sharing its title with another, better song from (hey!) the mid ’90s.

But sweetie, no. Putting your underage heinie on the menu in the video for “Miss Nothing” is not only inappropriate (you weren’t even born until 1993), it’s unhygenic. You’ve got your hair tracks in the mashed potatoes and your ass in the cranberry sauce.

Please, just let the nice men (bandmates? uncles?), who look like they would so desperately rather be at a gig with their System of a Down cover band, drink their goblets of mead and eat their Ren Faire turkey drumsticks in peace.

Readers, if you must, grab your eatin’ bibs and watch this glorious mess after the jump: READ FULL STORY »

Eminem doesn't budge from Billboard 200's No. 1 spot

eminemEminem‘s Recovery remains at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart for a fourth straight week, selling 195,000 copies. He’s the first to own the spot for four straight frames since Susan Boyle’s I Dreamed a Dream spent six consecutive weeks on top last year. This week’s highest debut is Korn’s Korn III – Remember Who You Are at No. 2, selling 63,000 copies. Drake‘s Thank Me Later moves back a spot to No. 3 with 50,000 copies sold.

Newsboys’ Born Again album comes in at No. 4 with 45,000 records sold. Selling 41,000 copies of his My World 2.0, Justin Bieber’s  stays at No. 5. Sting’s reworked classics album, Symphonicities, debuts at No. 6 with 36,000 records sold. This marks Sting’s tenth solo top 10 album. Country’s new man Jerrod Niemann enters the Billboard 200 at No. 7 with Judge Jerrod & the Hung Jury, selling 34,000 in its first week.

Rock group Hellyeah’s second album Stampede stomps to No. 8 with 28,000 records sold. M.I.A.’s Maya debuts with 28,000 albums moved at No. 9. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse soundtrack plummets six spots to No. 10 with 28,000 records sold, rounding out the top 1o.

Next week Rick Ross’ Teflon Don makes it’s chart debut. Do you think he’ll knock Eminem off the No. 1 spot? Let us know.

According to E!’s Marc Malkin, Megan Fox and Lost‘s Dominic Monaghan will play the two leads in the clip for Em’s duet with Rihanna, “Love the Way You Lie.” “Plans call for some rather steamy sequences between D.M. and Fox,” writes Malkin.

Monaghan’s rep confirms to EW that he’s been cast in the video. Reps for Eminem, Megan Fox, and director Joseph Kahn did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

‘Til we learn more, what do you think of these casting choices? Are you looking forward to this video?

Taio Cruz blows up with his fiery 'Dynamite' video: Watch it here!

What would a video for a song called “Dynamite” be without a few explosions? Taio Cruz’s new clip doesn’t disappoint on that front, bringing plenty of incendiary special effects to accent his cheery dance-pop hit.

The video opens at an auto chop shop whose employees are all scantily clad ladies. Cruz entertains them as sparks literally fly from their welding equipment. Meanwhile, over at a club, we see someone being presented with a suitcase full of — you guessed it — dynamite. Ominous! Disaster is averted when the dynamite fuels a huge but harmless fireball behind Cruz as he performs at that same club. (At least, I think that’s what happens to the dynamite we saw a few moments earlier. The plot is a little hard to follow on this point.)

Check out Taio Cruz’s “Dynamite” video after the jump (clip via MTV). How do you like it?

Nicki Minaj goes samurai in new 'Your Love' video: Watch here

Okay, her first single was a dud. But Nicki Minaj is slicing the competition to pieces with her second try, the Annie Lennox-sampling “Your Love.” A slow cut about a guy whose affection she’d do anything for, it’s currently No. 1 on the Billboard rap songs chart.

This morning Nicki released its video. In it she plays a samurai in training who falls for her sensei. The only problem is that one of her her classmates has too. After going through about three wigs, the battle for his love begins. Check out the video after to jump to see who wins.

Taylor Swift announces new album, 'Speak Now,' will drop Oct. 25

Categories: Taylor Swift

taylor-swift_320.jpg Image Credit: Stephen Lovekin/Getty ImagesTaylor Swift hosted a live web chat this afternoon to announce details of her new record, Speak Now, which she’ll release October 25th worldwide. The title, she said, “pertains to the album as a concept, and as an entire theme of the record, more than I can even tell you.”

Swift has been writing the album for two years, she said, since Fearless came out. “You gotta give yourself time to live a lot of things so you can write about a lot of things,” she said. “Thankfully, in the past two years I’ve experienced a lot of things that I’ve been dying to write about. A lot of things that I’ve wanted to say in the moment that I didn’t… Track by track, each song is a different confession to a different person.”

The album was written entirely by Swift, and co-produced by Swift and Nathan Chapman, with what Swift estimated to be 60 percent of the songs recorded in Chapman’s basement. First single, “Mine,” will be released to radio sometime mid-August. Swift said “Mine” is about “my tendency to run from love. It’s a recent tendency. Every example of love in my life has ended in goodbye. The song is about finding the exception to that.” The album will also include “Sparks Fly,” an old song that became a fan favorite after she played it live. Swift plans to tour “the world” after the album’s release.

On the acting front, Swift noted she would love to be in another movie someday, but is too busy with her music career at the moment. She also answered personal questions from fans, involving her favorite summer outfits (sundresses and homemade headbands), her favorite coffee (Starbucks lattes) and her tips for first-time songwriters. “The more it seems like a journal entry, the better,” she encouraged.

The chat is still going on Swift’s Ustream channel. Anyone else watching? What do you think? And who’s excited for Ms. Swift’s new album?

'Nothin' on You' and 'Billionaire' producer Bruno Mars releases debut solo single, 'Just the Way You Are': Hear it here

Categories: Bruno Mars, R&B

Bruno-MarsBy now Bruno Mars should be a familiar voice. As the featured singer and producer on two of the summer’s biggest hits–B.o.B’s “Nothin’ on You” and “Billionaire” by Travie McCoy–Mars has firmly cemented himself as a go-to guy for chart-toppers. But can he do it on his own? You be the judge. Check out the debut single, “Just the Way You Are,” from his forthcoming as-yet-untitled album. It’s an endearing mid-tempo cut, a cousin in vibe to his collaboration with B.o.B–just not as groovy. “When you smile/The whole world stops and stares for a while,” he croons to a girl on the hook. Cute, right? Seems like it would be a wonderful fit at a high school prom or a scene on MTV’s reality drama The City. Check it out after the jump and let us know what you think.

Radiohead drummer Philip Selway preps a surprising solo debut: The Music Mix Q&A

phil-selwayImage Credit: Kevin WestenbergMillions of fans worldwide know Philip Selway as Radiohead‘s drummer, the steady rhythmic anchor for the British band’s most daring experiments. But for the better part of the last decade, unknown to all but a select few, Selway has been quietly developing his own voice as a singer-songwriter. We first got an inkling of this side of Selway last year, when he contributed two mostly acoustic tunes to an album by 7 Worlds Collide, the supergroup led by New Zealand rocker Neil Finn. He’ll kick off his solo career in earnest on Aug. 31 with the release of Familial, a delicate folk-rock set recorded over the past two years in between his work with Radiohead. (The band is currently on a summer break from completing their eagerly awaited eighth album.)

I met Selway, 43, in a downtown Manhattan hotel yesterday to hear all about it. Click over to his official site to listen to “By Some Miracle,” Familial‘s excellent opening track, and read on for a lightly edited transcript of our full Q&A.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Are you excited about people getting to hear your album?
PHILIP SELWAY:
Yeah! I mean, it’s been a very guarded secret for quite some time from practically everybody. So that whole process of putting it out to people is exciting. There’s a deal of apprehension in it, as well. But suddenly, it makes it real in a way. There’s actually a record that people are listening to, and it’s finished. READ FULL STORY »
