Avenged Sevenfold’s Nightmare debuts at No. 1 this week on the Billboard 200 albums chart with 163,000 copies sold, ending Eminem‘s five-week run as the list’s leader. Now at No.2, Em’s Recovery moved 159,000 albums. Last week’s No. 2, Rick Ross’ Teflon Don, moves to No.3 with 63,000 copies sold. Justin Bieber’s My World 2.0 moves up two spots to No. 4 selling 38,000 sets.
At No. 5 with 34,000 copies sold is Drake’s Thank Me Later, which fell one spot. The Kidz Bop 18 collection falls one space to No. 6 moving 29,000 units.
Need You Now by Lady Antebellum jumps up two to No. 7, selling 27,000 copies. Sheryl Crow’s 100 Miles From Memphis drops five positions to No. 8, with 24,000 sets sold. Lady Gaga’s The Fame moves up one to No. 9, selling just under 24,000 albums. Rounding out the top 10 is the Now 34 compilation, falling two to No. 10 and selling 22,000 copies.
Surprised Eminem came in at No. 2? Buy any of this week’s new releases? Let us know.

good for them. i know a member passed away earlier this year, so it’s nice to see them get some success after that.
agreed… a very talented band!
it was pretty close though! Maybe Em will reclaim it next week.
I’m not suprised at all. The A7X family came together and earned this one for Jimmy. foREVer
Yes, the drummer. He was the most amazing drummer i’ve ever had the privilege to listen to.
RIP Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan
A7X foREVer

Who is still buying Eminem CD?? I drove all over the city looking for that damn Sevenfold CD sold out everywhere
Are you actually from Detroit? That would explain why.
Here’s hoping Arcade Fire nabs #1 next week.
No doubt about that. I hope they can at least sell over 150K+ copies of The Suburbs.
Who is Arcade Fire?
We don’t care for bands like Arcade Fire they aren’t even in the same league as A7X!
Great Job A7X you guys deserve this let’s hope you stay no.1 for a few more weeks or for however long.
Hahahahaha… Sarcasm! (I hope…)
A7X will last a week.
Eminem or someone else will take over the spot they deserve.
Nobody had to die to get them to #1.
Lady Antebellum is hanging in there, Top sellers of 2010 so far (2.5 million)
Avenged Sevenfold got the pity sales since a member died
And that doesn’t sound like you’re diminishing the quality of the album at all.
Yes, we lost the drummer last year but the fans wouldn’t have gone out and bought the album if we didn’t think it was worth it. Jimmy’s death may have been the catalyst that got the album to #1 but that doesn’t stop the CD itself from being absolutely brilliant and worthy of that top spot.
It wasn’t a pity sale! They are talented and have a huge fan base! But you wouldnt understand that cuz your not fan are you? A7X foREVer!
No its cause the album is just amazing but I guess you haven’t even listened too them eminem is just terrible
Ismael / Voté por el de una banda que no conocía y el tema se me pegó por saeanms…Saludos!
Even without Jimmy’s death I would have preordered it and gotten a digital copy as well. I love A7X and have for quite awhile.
Same. And I’m sure most of the fanbase would have too.
I’ve been an Avenged Sevenfold fan for a long long time.
With or without Jimmy’s death, I would have bought the album.
A7X is among the best rock bands around. Yes, they lost their drummer (R.I.P. Rev), but the album ROCKS, and deserves to hold the #1 spot for awhile
It definitely wasn’t pity sales have you heard this album. I bet you haven’t.
diego / deje mi voto por nahmtgire un exelente tema para mi el mejor del año saludos triperos
With or without Jimmy’s death, I would have pre-ordered the album and bought it in stores, just like I and many other fans did for all the other albums.
How tasteless of you Justice, to say that. You think this album received “pity” sales? Complete opposite, as most of the replies have explained. This is a talented band who display musical greatness. Something you have to listen to to appreciate. And while I am an Eminem fan, he does not exemplify the musical talent that A7X does. I have long been a fan of them and would have bought the album even if the Rev was still here. Shame on you Justice, for bringing something so tragic, like his death, into this.
It’s not a damn pity sale. I’m not gonna go buy an album from another band whose member died if I don’t like the band.
Sure, they got a lot of publicity because of Jimmy’s death, but people who aren’t interested in their music won’t buy the album.
they werent pity sales anyone who bought the album was a fan nothing more nothing lessim sorry you cant dedicate yourself or have the heart and love to go out and but not just one but 5 or more copies of the album just to make a difference and show the world what love you have for this artist id love to see all those mainstream fans actually willing to put their hard earned cash just to but multiple copies i bet you dont love eminem that much do you? thats why they got #1 not because they have more fans but because the fans have more love so shove that up your ass
pity sales?? the rev was brilliant, and you are ignorant and obtuse. They sold that many b/c they’re talented musicians, and they brought in THE MIKE PORTNOY! GREATEST DRUMMER IN THE WORLD. there ain’t nothing called pity sales. My friend… you, are pitiful.
As a drummer, I would like to point out that Mike Portnoy, though technically and rudimentally incredible, lacks the creativity and finesse possesed by truly great drummers such as John Bonham, Chad Smith, Mitch Mitchell, and Neil Peart, whose drumming style Portnoy simply copied to a tee.
This was a much awaited album, with or without the Rev’s death (R.I.P) people would have went out and bought this album. Pity sales my ass.
Pity sales? I dont know about you, but if a member of a band died but the album wasn’t good I wouldn’t buy it. Whether or not Jimmy died, the album is amazing and that’s the only reason why it’s at the top.
It is surprising that they bumped Eminem down to number two, but to be honest, they deserve it. And so does Jimmy. foREVer
its suprising to some ppl because the media, mtv, and magazines kiss so much rap and hip hop a** that its not funny. im not suprised that A7X made #1 because of the fans. nightmare is the best rock album of the year. im an Avenged Sevenfold fan and always will be foREVor.
Yes they deserved it… But as for “the best rock album of the year” I will have to wait for the new Maiden album to agree with you there… But no It’s not surprising that A7X nabbed the #1 spot
I bought the Avenged Sevenfold album, been a fan for years now and the new album is absolutely stellar.
I’m not surprised they’re #1, we fans are incredibly dedicated and this album is one of their best.
um, “Justice” I think you’ll find they won because it’s an amazing album.
R U KIDDING ME?! Avenged Sevenfold DESERVE MORE THAN EVER to be #1. Not just because of Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan’s passing, but because they kick ASS as always on their albums and are THE best rock band in this decade!
I’ve been a huge fan of Avenged Sevenfold for the past 7 years since their 2nd album (Waking the Fallen) was released and I’m so happy A7X made it to #1 and I’m not surprised…they have a huge devoted FAMILY of die hard fans…they deserve being #1. their music is amazing, the lyrics have heartfelt meanings.
I’m sure Jimmy is looking down on us proud that his band has accomplished something so huge and that he got to have a part of this album before he passed…may he rock in peace.
A7X foREVer <3
Justice
Very retarded statement. Why would someone buy an album from a band they never heard of just because a member died? What are you 9 years old? Still bitter about Bieber?
Agreed that b***h is dumb and needs a Chris Browning.
Ha ha, YES!
The Avenged Sevenfold fanbase is an extremely tight knit family. A large percentage of us bought multiple copies of the album to give to friends and family. Avenged might not have the quantity of fans as other artists, but you won’t find a more passionate group.
I bought ten all together.
including book of nightmares and the iTunes preorder.
WOOT! That’s what im talking about right here! Dedicated fans like you getting them up to number 1! A7X foREVer!
I bought four disks, and two iTunes downloads, since I had a $25 gift card that I’d likely never use again, since I have a Zune, not an iPod.
Thanks.
I went to the first 3 shows that they just had and just handed my extras to people who didn’t buy it yet.
Book of Nightmares, Itunes Deluxe, and 3 copies of the CD… mark me down for 5 purchases…
this album is absolutely great, I am a huge fan of A7X, since 2003 when I first heard WTF… they deserve the #1 spot, and more importantly, this album is more than worthy of the #1 spot… I actually feel that Recovery is the best rap album I’ve heard in years, and alot of that has to do with the raw emotion he pours into just about every song on that CD, much light A7X did with Nightmare… but at the end of the day, Recovery doesn’t hold a match to Nightmare, IMO.
Absolutely–Book of Nightmares, iTunes copy, and a retail copy (from Target) here. There’s no family like the A7X family!
Perfect…
I’m happy Avenged got this. They deserve it. They worked so hard on this album through probably the toughest time of their lives. I’m not surprised at all. They have a lot of highly devoted fans who support them. We’re not just a fan base, we’re a family. And they weren’t pity sales, they were sales of support and love.
Justice, I’m trying to be nice about this. The Album is phenomonal to say the least. It’s off the hook with greatness, My favorite A7X album by far. I didn’t buy it because Jimmy Died, I bought it because I am a dedicated fan to A7X just like most of there fan’s are, there fans are like family to them, and i cant speak for other fans, but I feel the same way. Their lyrics are off the hook, the guitar shredding is beyond a doubt epic, and the drumming, Portnoy is a genius on drums. So keep that pity sales crap to yourself unless you’ve actually heard the album.
Well said!!! I agree with EVERYTHING Tabetha said.
I’m so proud of A7X. They deserve this so much. I’m not surprised at all. April, I couldn’t have said it better myself. Very well put. I agree with everything you said.
I agree completely with Tabetha as well. Incredibly well put, I couldn’t have phrased that better if I tried.
