YES!! I love Arcade Fire. I saw their live concert in Madison Square Garden on Youtube, it was awesome!! Thanks to Terry Gilliam.

It will drop out of the Top 20 by next week. Guaranteed!

      • Jam

BestBand right now is 3 Ring Binder! Wonder why their album, “Trapper Keeper” isn’t making the charts? hmmmm….

      • S.O.

I bet you next week AF will still be in the top 20. If Buckcherry was at #10 w/ 28K sold this week, I’m sure AF will sell that at a minimum next week. Book it!

      • the typical drop is about 50-60%, so no way will that happen.

  • Corben

Woo-hoo! Their new album is fantastic.

    • dipshat

Yeah i haven’t heard this and their second album but their first album was great!

  • JC

Arcade Fire’s new album is awesome. And I get to see them live tonight in Atlanta. This is just icing on the cake that they’re the best-seller of the week!

  • Hans M.

Hopefully it will live on as long as Coldplay’s album did on the charts, it’s a great record that keeps giving with repeated listens, unlike most tiring pop music. Long live rock!

Nice to see Arcade Fire go #1 with their best album yet, well deserved.

exactly 10 years ago, on april 2000’N SYNC had sold 2.400.000 copies from NO STRINGS ATTACHED, BRITNEY sold 1.300.000 copies from OOOPPS I DID IT AGAIN EMINEN sold 1.800.000 copies from THE MARSHALL MATHERS LP the same month. later on that october LIMP BISKIT sold 1.100.000 from COCOLATE STARFISH AND THE….. and on that december the BACKSTREET BOYS OLD 1.6000.000from BLACK & BLUE….
all these numbers are only from the the first week sales of each albums…what a times for record companies!!!!!!
I was one of those stupid teens who went straight to buy a cd, not anymore since 2001!

How nice to see great music on the top of the charts… it’s an increasingly rare occurance. I’ve been listening to the album non-stop since Tuesday… it’s excellent (my favorites: Modern Man and We Used to Wait).

    • Hans M.

Good choices! Those are stand outs for me too. “Ready to Start” is also a great cut.

  • John

Heck yes! Really nice to see that independent releases are topping the charts.

Sure the sales numbers are far from amazing (admit it, people just don’t buy albums anymore with teh Internets around), but the fact that this album debuted at number one, beating out major label competitors Buckcherry and a7x, is a clear sign that independent labels are gaining clout and that radio stations should start taking notice and set their priorities straight on who to play.

    • Jam

topping the charts or going mainstream? Becasue thats what topping the charts equates to. Then when they are mainstream all you people will be the ones saying “I used to listen to them when they were an indie band, you knwo, before they sold out and went all mainstream.”

      • John

Well, I rather have these indie bands such as Arcade Fire go mainstream and be played all the time on the radio than, IMO, terrible rock bands such as Buckcherry.

I don’t (and I wish more people won’t) get bothered by the “I used to listen to them when they were an indie band, you know, before they sold out and went all mainstream” schtick as long as the band doesn’t make an effort to sell out, which Arcade Fire does NOT do on The Suburbs.

Now if they go mainstream by compromising their sound, that’s a different story.

  • Jay

i wish King Mathers beats Lady Antebellum…

  • Anonmyous R

Well deserved but I do feel like they are going mainstream.

    • Fatima

Ugh. Why do fans wish against their favorite band’s success? Arcade Fire weren’t ever really a hidden band (by far one of the biggest indie groups) so it’s not like you were sitting on a giant secret either.

Bravo. At last some decent rock at the top of the chats.

  • Ernesto

I bought the album and I love it. I’m glad to see they’re number one. (favorite tracks; Rococo, Ready to Start)

  • Mike

I rather enjoy Arcade Fire and their sound. They can be mellow and soothing or up beat, they trully are the best band since Radiohead.
