'80s synth-pop icons OMD return, sample classic Aretha Franklin on 'Save Me': A Music Mix exclusive stream

OMD-Aretha-FranklinImage Credit: A. Gilbert/PR PhotosNearly 25 years after they crooned Molly Ringwald into prom-wish-fulfillment bliss in Pretty in Pink’s cold-shouldered satin, British synth-poppers Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, a.k.a. OMD, have returned.

September 28th’s History of Modern will be their first studio album since 1996’s Universal, and the first in over two decades to feature the group’s original ’80s lineup.

To celebrate, the band has reached even further back to borrow Aretha Franklin’s soul plea “Save Me” from her classic 1967 album I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You, and spun it right ’round their own dance-pop Cuisinart.

    Doesn’t sound like OMD,but I like it. :-)

What are they, remixing DJs now? lame. I missed the days when they played real instruments on songs like “Enola Gay.”

No dude…theyre doing a full LP called “the History of Modern”. they sampled Aretha Franklin on one track. I listened to half the album already. Theyre still retaining the classic synth pop vibe.
