I voted for California Gurls since that’s the only one of the choices I’ve heard (God, I’m getting old!), but my REAL vote would either be Monae’s “Tightrope” or La Roux’s “Bullletproof” or even Kylie’s “All the Lovers”… Maybe they aren’t all that ‘new’ but they kept me dancing at many a party this summer.

lame songs this summer, and Katy Perry has just got to go; if people would stop watching music videos and choose based on music alone, they would stop listening altogether

Aw, who picked “Stuck Like Glue?” LOVE that song – and it certainly does get stuck in your head! I am chomping at the bit for Sugarland’s new album! October come quick… but yeah, “Stuck Like Glue” was my summer song!!

Wow, all the choices are HORRIBLE!!

    My vote Hanson-”Thinking ‘Bout Somethin’”

      • Maureen

I agree with both of you!! Love “Thinking ‘Bout Something” and “Shark in the Water” which both sadly didn’t get enough radio play in my opinion. :(

    Airplanes by B.O.B

  • Ahmed

    Eminem — RECOVERY!!!!

  • Justin

    Alejandro – Lady Gaga

I have to say, whenever I think back on this summer, all I hear is Waka Waka (This Time For Africa) by Shakira. Not only did it represent one of the major events of the summer (the FIFA World Cup), but also, it’s summery, catchy and by Shakira!

Nothing kills a song like overplaying on the radio. Whatever happened to “Top 40″? It’s more like top 10 now.

      Clear Channel happened.

        Thank you!

    Best Coast

Yes indeed. “Boyfriend” just SOUNDS like summer. Shame it hasn’t made inroads beyond hipsters.

track down their Converse sponsored single “All Summer” with Kid Cudi & the dude from Vampire Weekend! Definitely a great summer tune!

The song of the summer for me is not necessarily something new I heard on the radio but just songs that I really enjoyed (they could be new to me or old favorites) over the summer. In that regards my favorites I’ve heard this summer were King of Anything from Sara Bareilles (a new song), You Left The Water Running by Otis Redding ( an old song I hadn’t heard until this past summer), and since the summer isn’t quite over yet the whole album of John Mellencamp’s No Better Than This. Those for me where the songs that really mattered this summer. And they were a lot deeper than any of that so called “song of the summer” crap that every year the music industry tries to push down our throats. Why is it that the record industry is so afraid of independent thought? Why does there have to be one definitive song for everybody, that fits all? For goodness sakes there’s ton of good music out there that is just waiting to be discovered. Don’t wait for it to just come to you over the airwaves. Go to it on your own.

Yeah, why put Em’s pick up there and not make it a choice? I choose “Love the Way You Lie.” His whole album is AMAZING!!!

I just can’t stomach “California Girls”…besides being almost a ripoff of Tic Toc it’s repetitive refrain is just irritating! Pop schlock at its worst.

      Ditto.
