First batch of CMA Awards nominees announced today, Miranda Lambert an early favorite

Miranda-LambertImage Credit: Randee St. NicholasThis morning (Aug. 31) the first wave of nominees for the 44th Annual CMA Awards were announced and Miranda Lambert appears to be in store for an trophy-filled night. The singer earned five nominations: single of the year and music video of the year for her songs “White Liar” and “The House That Built Me,” and a song of the year nomination for “White Liar.” She’ll fight fiancé Blake Shelton‘s “Hillbilly Bone” for single of the year and music video of the year.

Lady Antebellum did well at the first batch of announcements, earning nods for single of the year, vocal group of the year, song of the year and music video of the year for “Need You Now.” Legendary tandem Brooks & Dunn earned a nom for vocal duo of the year.

Easton Corbin nominated for new artist of the year and single of the year for “A Little More Country Than That.” Zac Brown Band got nods for new artist and song of the year for “Toes.”

Nominees in the remaining five categories, including male and female vocalist of the year and entertainer of the year will be announced tomorrow (Sept. 1) by Miranda Lambert and Dierks Bentley on ABC’s Good Morning America. Check back here tomorrow to check out our thoughts on the full slate.

Hosted by Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood for the third time, CMA Awards air live from Nashville, Tennessee Nov. 10.

surprisingly, besides carrie, other big names like brad paisley, keith urban, and kenny chesney were all also shut out of the big categories announced. no doubt it’s miranda vs. lady antebellum for song, single, and video.

How many Country Music awards are there? Seems like every 3 months there is some kind of ‘Country Music blah, blah blah, Awards’ show!

I’d love to see more Rock award shows!!

    • Matt

CMA Awards, ACM Awards, CMT Awards. That’s it.

      • The Daw

And FOX’s new awards show coming up.

      • Dee

Was Matt being sarcastic? 3 awards shows for one genre seems like a lot to me! Four, if you include the FOX show…

    • tnsmoke

The CMA’s are the industry awards, best to win one of these or a Grammy. The ACM’s are an Los Angeles based show started by Dick Clark to make some moola. The CMT Awards are just for music videos.

  • Christina

GO MIRANDA. YOU DESERVE TO WIN ALL OF THESE AWRADS. BEST FEMALE IN COUNTRY MUSIC RIGHT NOW.

    • Nathan

Best artist of any gender in country music right now.

    • judd

Uh, no sweetheart, Miranda is a very good singer and talented artist but, Carrie is the best singer EVER. I think it will be that way for a very long time. Have a nice day.

      • kaci

wow you tone was nasty! get over yourself and carrie… she has a very good voice but she really is just a voice and there are others out there that are actually better (Kelly Clarkson, Martina McBride, Faith Hill, Christina Aquilera). miranda is very talented and much more unique than carrie even if her voice doesn’t hit the same range as carrie.

      • Stormy

And Miranda is a songwriter as wall as a singer. Nothing against Carrie, she’s great, but she’s more crossover. Miranda is pure country.

  • Christina

Miranda lambert gets shut out every year so she deserves to be nomintated and to win this year

  • Jame

where the hell is reba’s consider me gone in the single of the year category, why 2 miranda singles, i love the house that built me, but white liar—ugh!!!

  • Jake

  • Leah

So excited for Miranda! She has never won a CMA and she has deserved to many times. Hopefully this is the year she wins one. Team Miranda!!!

  • Alia

Miranda has one of the best voices country music has ever seen, and several really great songs (The House That Built Me, Bring Me Down, More Like Her). She deserves the recognition.

  • bella

what?? temporary Home by carrie underwood is a great song and video so wierd shes not nominated…i am excited for miranda though great artist girl..wheres talor ??y

    • reason

the Underwood bandwagon is slowing down, her new cd is atrocious, she can’t seem to connect to her songs, and she is a fembot…

  • kathy60

Miranda and Carrie are the reigning queens of country music right now and deservedly so. Thank GOD country music folks have wised up and put Taylor where she belongs – in the POP music category.

    • kaci

Actually Taylor belongs back where she came from and off the radio. Even when is is auto-tuned to the max, she still can’t hit the right notes and is generally horrible sounding. And don’t even get me started on when she tries to sing live… she is atrocious and it is sad that society has let such a non-talent get so far in this business when so many others are way more talented and have a hard time even making a living. I also find it sad that she is considered a good role model when she shows nothing more than mediocrity and a short dress sells records.

      • Hatsu

I totally agree wit Kaci, Taylor Swift is such a non-talent, she sounds horrible live! And she is definitely not a real country singer at all!

  • kaci

I have to say that I am very happy for Lady Antebellum’s success and so proud of them. They have come so far since the early days of playing 3rd & Lindsley (in Nashville) without a record deal… those shows were awesome and I am so happy to have gotten the chance to go to several before they became stars.

    • Squee

And this has what to do with the subject of Miranda?

      • Hatsu

Get over yourself Squee, Kaci can add her comment about whatever she likes. Don’t be such a killjoy.

  • Maureen

There’s seriously like, a bajillion country music awards! What’s the difference between one from the other? We want to see this girl finally win a GRAMMY for a crying out loud! :D

  • jpratm

MIRANDA LAMBERT ALL THE WAY !!!!!!!!!

  • Dinosaur

Lambert performed at a county fair a few years ago … she was a crabby nasty spoiled little brat, and nobody liked her.

    • Squee

      Not unlike yourself?
