The Key of Awesome parodies Eminem and Rihanna's 'Love the Way You Lie' grade-school style: Watch here

Oh, those crazy Key of Awesome kids! The folks who brought you that “Telephone” parody and that other Ke$ha/Bieber/Gaga parody and a bunch of other such YouTube shenanigans have now turned their sights on Eminem and Rihanna’s “Love the Way You Lie.”

In their hands, the somber domestic-violence lesson becomes a cutesy story about two elementary schoolers. “You stole my heart and you stole my bike,” sings a Rihanna impersonator, “But that’s all right, because I love the way you like.” See what they did there?

Lady Gaga cross-dressing in new magazine spread? She's a man, baby!

gaga-vogue-japanImage Credit: Vogue Homme JapanShe is, persistent online trollery aside, neither anatomically male, nor a hermaphrodite, though the rumor still lives strong (hey, even Barbara Walters asked).

But Lady does look very much like a dude on the cover of Japan’s new Vogue Hommes September issue.

Fans of the internet likely saw these same shots in late June, when Perez first tweeted one of the pics with the title “my hubby,” and many gossip sites speculated that the model “Jo Calderone” was, in fact, the young miss born Stefani Germanotta.

Reps for the star have yet to dispute the magazine’s conceit that its cover model is in fact an Italian mechanic, and a paramour of Gaga’s, as per the following brief interview with “him” that accompanies the photo shoot inside:

Where are you from?
Palermo, Sicily
How would you describe what you do / your occupation?
Mechanic for my dad’s business. This is the first time I’ve had my picture taken.
When did you discover you wanted to do this?
Well, I always helped my dad at work, since I was a kid. I thought it would be fun to have my picture taken.
What are your ambitions?
I’d love to own my own car shop, I have a bunch of my own ‘muscle’ cars. Maybe if I take some more pictures I can afford it.
What is your relationship with Lady Gaga?
I met her at a shoot Nick Knight was doing. She’s fuckin beautiful, and funny, and interesting. I was a little nervous for Nick to start shooting. She said, “Don’t be baby, you were “born this way.” I took her out after. The rest is private ;)

What do you think of the spread, readers—clever tweaking of gender constructs, or kind of a drag?

Timbaland denies suicide attempt rumors

Categories: Timbaland

TimbalandImage Credit: Janet Mayer/PR PhotosTimbaland called in to Ryan Seacrest’s KIIS-FM radio show today to counter rumors of a possible suicide attempt. “I don’t even know what happened, to be honest. I don’t know what people are talking about,” the superproducer said, adding, “Why would I commit suicide?”

Online reports earlier in the day claimed that Timbaland had fled his house in an agitated state after discovering the theft of a watch worth $2 million, leading his family to call the police, who found him unharmed and brought him home. In the KIIS interview, Timbaland told Seacrest that he had indeed been robbed, but not of a watch, and firmly denied that he had ever intended to hurt himself.

“The only thing I did was take a drive to figure out how I’m going to handle [the theft],” Timbaland said. He added that he planned to return to the studio this afternoon to work with Keri Hilson on her next album. Reps for Timbaland have not responded to EW’s request for further comment.

U2 fined for rehearsing too darn much. And can't they keep it down?

U2-ConcertImage Credit: Mark Allan/WireImage.comSeminal Irish rock band U2 — you may have heard of them — were fined by the city of Barcelona, Spain, this week for playing “too long and too loudly” during rehearsals for their 360º Tour last year, according to the AP. The band, which set up camp in a local soccer stadium, apparently went two hours over their scheduled rehearsal time, and offended the ears of the Spaniards living nearby — Spaniards being, of course, a notoriously quiet, restful, and curfew-abiding people — by going above the permitted sound level. For this, they have paid a fine of $22,000, and, I’m sure, have promised never, ever to let the noise generated by their giant space station that is 16 stories tall and takes 120 trucks to transport disrupt the residents of that peaceful hamlet again.

Fun fact I recall from watching the awesome U2 3D a couple years back: When the band staged a mock concert in Buenos Aires to get closeups for that concert film, there were people camping outside the stadium gates who actually wanted to hear the sound coming over the walls. Guess we know where Bono and the boys will be rehearsing in the future.

Even better nugget from the AP story, which I’ll quote directly because I can’t do it justice: Barcelona is apparently “now studying fining Colombian singer Shakira for recording a video in the city without a permit, dancing in a fountain and riding a motorbike without a helmet.”

What do you think, Mixers? Is this ridiculous, or justice being served? Between this and Erykah Badu’s fine/probation for public video nudity, the city officials vs. rock stars war seems to be heating up — whose side are you on? And if Shakira can’t dance in a fountain, who can?

Bob Dylan's early 'Witmark Demos' to be released

Categories: Bob Dylan, Reissues

Bob-DylanBob Dylan completists have something to look forward to this Oct. 19, when the ninth installment of his ongoing Bootleg Series arrives in stores. The Whitmark Demos: 1962-1964 will collect 47 rough takes the young Dylan recorded for his first two music publishers.

Along with early versions of well-known classics like “Blowin’ in the Wind,” “The Times They Are A-Changin’,” “Masters of War,” and “Mr. Tambourine Man,” the set will also collect 15 Dylan originals that never made it past the demo stage. A press release from Columbia Records says the demos feature Dylan “accompanied only by his acoustic guitar, harmonica and occasionally piano.” While surreptitious copies of many of these recordings have long circulated throughout the fan community, it’s still pretty cool that they’re being released in a legitimate format with liner notes after all these years.

As if that’s not enough Dylan for one day, Oct. 19 will also see the release of a box set with remastered mono versions of his first eight albums, from 1962′s Bob Dylan through 1967′s John Wesley Harding. If you have any Dylan-loving audiophiles in your life, here’s your chance to take care of some holiday gift shopping months in advance.

Will you be buying either of these offerings? Which Dylan demo are you most looking forward to hearing?

Eminem tops the Billboard 200 album sales chart yet again

Categories: Charts, Eminem

eminemImage Credit: Frank Micelotta/Getty ImagesEminem‘s chart reign goes on. After a brief interruption two weeks ago courtesy of Arcade Fire, he promptly returned last week to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album sales chart, and that’s where he’s staying this week after selling another 116,000 copies of Recovery, according to Nielsen SoundScan. This is Shady’s seventh nonconsecutive week at No. 1 with Recovery — more than anyone has racked up since Taylor Swift’s Fearless in 2008 and 2009, and more than any rap album since OutKast’s Speakerboxxx/The Love Below in 2003 and 2004. Will Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream knock Eminem back down to No. 2 next week? Stay tuned.

Soul singer Kem’s Intimacy leads this week’s crowded pack of new arrivals, taking No. 2 with 74,000 copies sold. At No. 3, it’s Ray LaMontagne with 64,000 copies sold of God Willin’ and the Creek Don’t Rise, a career best for the folk troubadour. Iron Maiden follow at No. 4 with 63,000 copies sold of Final Frontier. Trace Adkins rounds out the Top 5 with 50,000 copies sold of Cowboy’s Back in Town. Arcade Fire’s The Suburbs falls to No. 7 in week 3 after selling another 31,000 copies.

The new entries resume at No. 9 with David Gray, who sold 25,000 copies of Foundling. John Mellencamp notches No. 10 with 24,000 copies sold of No Better Than This. Down at No. 17, Lady Antebellum make it onto the chart with 18,000 digital copies sold of their iTunes Sessions EP; a few spaces above, their hit Need You Now also rose from No. 12 last week to No. 6 this week.

Surprised by any of those results? Think Eminem has a shot at fending off Katy Perry next week, or is he enjoying his last term at No. 1? Speak up in the comments.

Sara Bareilles, 'Uncharted': Stream her new song exclusively here!

sara-bareilles_320.jpg Sara Bareilles will release her sophomore major label album, Kaleidoscope Heart, on September 7th, but here at the Music Mix, we’ve got your exclusive preview stream now. (We know you can’t be made to wait.) The song is called “Uncharted,” and its lyrics gave Bareilles the title of her album. They also broke her out of some nasty writer’s block: “I actually found that I wanted nothing to do with music for a little while,” is how Bareilles puts it in her current bio. “I preferred drinking copious amounts of coffee, going to yoga, and looking for cute throw pillows at Target. I love throw pillows.”

Those who loved 2007′s breakout “Love Song” should get a kick out of this spiky, spunky piano folk. Give a listen, Mixers, and let us know in the comments: What do you think?

Katy Perry gives extended 'Late Show' concert, should you need a way to kill 42 minutes this morning

Categories: Katy Perry

Warning: It is Wednesday morning! At any second, your boss could stroll by your office/cubicle/cell searching for that tell-tale look of mid-week ennui that signals you’re not quite overworked enough, that there’s room for one more little project on your desk. And won’t it be an exciting opportunity for you to tackle another gargantuan deadline between now and Friday? No? Okay, well, then you’d better bridge the gap between this moment and your hotly anticipated lunch break with an activity engaging enough to keep you looking alert and focused. You could Google your ten least favorite former coworkers/classmates to search for signs of their unending misery. You could brainstorm new ways to inexplicably blow $10 at the same three lunch joints you feel like you’ve been frequenting for all eternity. Or you could click here to watch the saucy, 42-minute set Katy Perry performed on the Late Show with David Letterman last night in celebration of the release of her new CD, Teenage Dream. Just don’t accidentally burst out the chorus on “Hot ‘N Cold.” The boss might not approve. READ FULL STORY »

Chris Brown speaks on his tearful Michael Jackson tribute: 'It wasn't fake'

chris-brown-jackson-tributeImage Credit: Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic.comIn a promotional appearance on BET’s 106 and Park yesterday, Chris Brown tried to clear the air about his controversial Michael Jackson tribute at June’s BET Awards. “A lot of people don’t know, I was going to see Michael Jackson the day he died,” Brown said, according to Billboard. “I was on my way to the Staples Center that day… When I heard ‘Man In The Mirror,’ it just touched me. It wasn’t fake. I know people were trying to put extras on it, but everything was genuine. That was my ultimate apology, hands down.”

Brown’s statement is unlikely to change anyone’s mind about that sobbing performance one way or the other. It sidesteps entirely the question of whether Brown’s attention-getting breakdown, even if it was “genuine,” was an appropriate way to honor the late King of Pop. But what do you think of his latest words on the subject? Sound off in the comments.

R. Kelly's 'When A Woman Loves': Hear his soulful single here

Categories: R. Kelly, Soul

kelly-woman-lovesThe next time someone tries to tell you R. Kelly is not a gifted songwriter, play them his new single, “When A Woman Loves.” His more typical sex-crazed/absurdist/R&B thug shticks can be fun, too — but he’s arguably at his best when he’s penning sweet, sappy love songs like this one.

Check out “When A Woman Loves” after the jump. This could have been a hit 40 or even 50 years ago, easy. And Kelly sings it with real soul and verve. The vocal breakdown that starts around the 3:15 mark is particularly awesome. I love it, cheesy canned brass section and all.

A representative for Jive Records tells EW that “When A Woman Loves” is the first single from an upcoming Kelly project, but confirmed details are scarce beyond that. (According to Rap Radar, it could be from one of three upcoming Kelly albums.) Do you like this tune as much as I do? Excited for Kelly to go back into classic crooner mode? READ FULL STORY »
