Justin Bieber at the VMAs: We have to admit, he drummed up a great performance

Justin-Bieber-VMAs_320.jpg Image Credit: Kevin Winter/Getty ImagesOkay, it’s official: I too have the fever. Bieber fever, that is. And if you don’t, my question for you is, “Why?” Did you see Justin Bieber’s performance just now at the VMAs? One, he was introduced by Kim Kardashian. That was already a win.

Performing outside of the Nokia Theater in a black varsity jacket and backed by six red-cardiganed dancers, the Biebs kicked things off with his teen smash “Baby.” He followed that up with “Somebody to Love.” His tween dancers were replaced by prancing children. After all, they just love the 16-year-old phenom.

But the best part came towards then end when Justin took over percussion for a drum solo (by the way, he plays the guitar and piano and “a little trumpet.” Seconds in, he lost one of his sticks. But he cleaned up the mess quickly, recovered without any major damage done to his set. It wasn’t perfect, but as the streamers flew towards at the end, it was obvious that he pleased the cheering audience clamoring for more. And me, too. It was perfect for his fans: simple, totally unpretentious fun.

Did you catch Justin’s performance? What did you think of the little guy’s VMA showing?

…I think that I still can’t stand him. And that while he isn’t terrible, he still sounds like he needs to hit puberty and start looking like an actual boy.

    • BitterEnd

      Thanks for that moron.

  • Dustin roberts

He Messed up….the drumstick flew outta his hand what a loser

    • yudi

wow! big deal he messed up isnt he a person? yet he pulled it off and did an amazing job, you know your right he is a loser and when billions of fans were screaming his name, yeah what a loser, mean while your sitting some where reading about HIM? ooooo i think you have some bieber fever sweetie;]

  • JOe

but he lipsynched. :( that was disappointing.he sucks anyway but at least try and sing to get some credibility. he can dance but he will be off to the sidelines in the nxt year

    • AK

I was just about to say that! His lip-synching was so blatant, that I found it embarrassing. Why is it that no one ever gets called on it anymore?

      • Elise

Nah somebody backstage just needs to stop the track thats playing next time to prove that he is lip syncing that would ruin his career just like Milli Vanilli.

    • christin

im sory but ur kind of right he did lip sing but he is still a person and u dont need to judge a book by its cover im sory but we’re human beings and thts the way god made us so dont judge people and think u wont get judged back

      • christin

any way people may judge u but u dont need to judge them this goes for everybody who commented on here how justin bieber is gay and ugly and hasnt hit puberty well if thts wat u think then thts ur opinion and so dont make people turn against him its there choice if they like him or not so thts all im gonna say

  • Sara

Definitely lipsynched. nobody could move that much without their voice dipping. on a positive note, at least he gave a good entertaining performance.

  • sally

Sorry but lipsynching isn’t my thing and he lipsynched that performance. Sucked.

    • am

he was sick he had tooooo

  • PR

    Great performance!!!

  • Ashleigh

I actually would have been totally prepared to give him his props if he hadn’t lip-synched the thing.

  • eliroxxmysoxx

i think he was great and im not that into him =)

  • Caitlin

I don’t like him. Not because I think he’s horrible. Just because I don’t like listening to people that sound and look like they’re 12. It’s just not my thing.

    • Annette

You sound like a true 12 year old! All the best singers have high pitched voices you obviously are too young to have listened to Michael Jackson!

      • ConcernedSoul

My God, you didn’t just compare this talentless hack of a boy to Michael Jackson. That is a gross injustice to MJ’s legacy.

      • Bill

“All the best singers have high pitched voices ”

        You’re kidding, right?

      • Dan

Frank Sinatra didn’t have a high-pitched voice and he was the greatest popular singer of the 20th century.

      • Jason

There’s a big difference between a 12 year old’s voice and a Man singing in a high pitch. Just like how someone may be a huge “Off the Wall” or “Thriller” fan and not like the Jackson 5 because of the little kid singer. Also, you should jump off of a bridge for comparing Michael Jackson’s talent to a kid who is only famous because tweens think he’s cute.

  • Ixarix

    It was a fun performance.

  • Terry

Why don’t I have “Bieber fever”? Well, first of all, I’m not gay and not a 12 year old girl. Secondly, I don’t have a fever for any celeb, especially a crappy pop star. Actually, thinking back to my teen year, I was never crazy about any big musical act. Loved their music, sure, but I’ve nev er even owned ONE rock star or pop star poster, so fever, hardly.

    • Paul

I don’t think any gay man has “Bieber fever”. I know I certainly don’t. I believe he is strictly a tween girl thing.

  • Annette

Instead of hating on Justin Bieber maybe you should all listen to the great pioneers of rock and roll like Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Richie Valens (who happened to be 17 by the way)and Roy Orbison. Then read up on to the British Invasion, the 1980’s punk/big hair /new wave and after catch up with some 90’s revival.

  • ella

His performance is great! even he dropped the stick still he ddnt made a mess.
how could u judge that boy, yeah he’s still a kid he looks like 12 but he performed it great at his age. how about you? can u do it in that way at that age? i dont think so. :)

  • Regina Spektor fan

Yeah, well he’s no John Bonham, either. NEXT!

  • Konfide-N-Me

THE CHILD LIPPED THE ENTIRE PERFORMANCE. It’s amazing how he is being showered with all this praise when barely a word out of his mouth was live, he’s been performing the same 2 songs on shows over and over AND the fact that he has pulled the “cool drummer” routine at least half a dozen times.
