Kanye West pens XXL magazine story addressing Taylor Swift incident: 'I felt very alone'

Kanye-XXLYou’ve read the tweets and seen the televised performance. Get ready for the latest stop in Kanye West‘s tour of contrition for interrupting Taylor Swift that one time last fall: The rapper has written a cover story for XXL magazine‘s October 2010 issue.

According to excerpts first published by Popeater, West addresses the Video Music Awards faux pas in detail. “I stress that the incident wasn’t about Taylor personally,” West writes. “And it definitely wasn’t about race. Where I messed up is, at the end of the day, it’s your show, Taylor. It’s your show, MTV.” He adds: “The relationship with the public and with your fans is like the relationship with your girlfriend. How could I not, at a certain point, be like, ‘I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have been at the awards show. I’m sorry.’ Not that I don’t deserve to get beat up or change who I am inside, to make sure that that doesn’t happen again.”

West goes on to discuss how he felt after the Swift run-in cratered his public image. “I knew I wasn’t in a great spot publicly after the incident, but I would just block it out and work as hard as possible and let my work be my saving grace,” he writes. “In a way, I had thrown a Molotov cocktail at my own career, and it gave me an opportunity, for the first time, to go away and find out who I was. Because I felt very alone.”

In addition to the cover story, XXL also made West the creative director of a special 40-page section in the magazine.

What do you think of West’s latest public statement? Will you read the full story when XXL arrives on stands Sept. 28?

Can he just stop already? Why do people still care about this year-old story? How much more do we need to hear about it? It’s over and done with.

    • Sharlin

I am so sick of this as well. FROM BOTH OF THEM.

    • dee

Exactly. Enough already of this. Move on.

      @Joe

wtf? taylor whining? taylor a crybaby? was it not kanye that repeatedly brought it up crying to save face? don’t even try to say taylor brought it back up at the 2010 vma’s. SHE WROTE THE SONG ALMOST A YEAR AGO! right after the 2009 vma’s. yeah shut up

    • Tamara

Kanye rocks. He has more talent in his little finger than all of Taylor swift. I think I will take down my posters of Taylor on my wall. She does not deserve to be up there when people with real talent have not been discovered.

  • angeljake

As Adam Sandler said in Billy Madison, “You blew it!”

  • Anna

He’s a fame-whore on the level of Kate Gosslin and Jennifer Aniston.

    • LOL at You

A celebrity? No way, I refuse to believe they are all about themselves…Get real

    • Matt

lol at throwing Aniston’s name in the mix. That doesn’t make sense at all.

      • Luis

Yeah, that Dakota Fanning is also pretty obnoxious!!

  • tinap

i like kanye and would like him to know that we got it. the world gets it already. you’re sorry. you’re very, very sorry. let’s move on. alright? ok.

    • LOL at You

Losers on this board wont let it go.

      • Silent Rage

        This!

I didn’t care a year ago and I don’t care now. Always been a huge Kanye fan, never liked Swift’s music much.

Kanye was a total dick who acted like he was entitled to ruin one girls moment to praise another. He didn’t realize it would turn out like that, he thought he would be praised for saying it. Its’ not over because Kanye isn’t over it. lol! Taylor is smart to try and use it to her advantage, just as Kanye is. See, because of that moment in 09, Kanye can finally say he’s a D-B, a jerk-off, etc. Once he owns it, it’s his and the public doesn’t have power over him anymore. That is why he is doing this. Oh, and because it’s good buisness. Taylor and Kanye both know that if handled correctly, both of them benefit from that moment. And THAT is why the moment won’t die.

I SEE YOU YE… “AS ABOVE SO BELOW”

  • Japanka01

Im also a huge fan of Kanye…. YO ROCK MY IDOL!!!!!!!!

  • sally

I like both Kanye and Taylor. Taylor said she forgave Kanye for what he did. It’s time for both of them and all of us to let it go.

    • Brian

It was staged, they’re both guilty. Kanye didn’t realize what he got himself into until it was too late.

  • matt

it has been a year already, get over it West!! You made a bonehead mistake, but now you’re just beating a dead horse, no one cares!

  • max

Oh wow please just drop it already.

  • Amy

Dude you can stop saying sorry now. Taylor Swift’s fans won’t buy your music anyway. It sounds like he’s doing damage control before his new album comes out…he doesn’t want another FLOP like his last album. I won’t buy his garbage anyway. Not because he’s racist but because he is overrated.

    • LOL at You

I know. Having a #1 album on the Billboard 100 is a flop. Crazy.

      • Amy

Katy Perry also had a #1 album on the Billboard 100 last week. That means nothing. Kanye’s last album did not sell as well as people expected. In fact, Taylor’s album sold millions of more copies and stayed on top of the charts MUCH LONGER. I think Kanye realizes his time is almost up. He’s not as popular as he used to be. He has his rap/hip-hop fans but has lost all his cross-over fans which is why his last album didn’t sell well. Now, he’s known more for his antics than music. He tries to keep his name in the news by doing retarded things. So sad.

      • Silent Rage

Get your facts straight Amy, Kanye’s last album was NOT expected to do what it did sales wise being experimental and all. Comparing record sales is kind of ridiculous don’t you think? And nothing is sad about making more money than the average joe.

      • Nick

Being on the Billboard 100 doesn’t mean it’s good music. A lot of great music out there are not on the Billboard charts. At least I don’t depend on Billboard to decide what good music sounds like.

  • JackieB

I think Kanye wrote this for people like me, who after last year’s VMA’s, refused to support him or buy his music. And I get that he’s sorry, but I still don’t think Kanye West is a good person. I don’t think it’s coming from a genuine place (and I’m not even a Taylor fan). So I won’t buy his music anymore, and I don’t buy this whole “I’m angelic now” act. He was a douchebag for at least a year or two BEFORE the Taylor incident; that was just the straw that broke the camel’s back.
And of course he felt alone!! No one would be on his side, because we figured out that his a-hole personality is greater than his talent.

    • Jay

I agree with eveything you just said.
What most of his supporters fail to realize, is that most of us ‘haters’ had good cause to dislike this douchebag long before the Taylor Swift incident.
then they say things like “Taylor has forgiven him, move on and get a life”.

They are missing the point entirely.

Just to note: Kanye does NOT care about his fans. If you are one of them, he doesn’t care about you either. Just ask anyone who was hoping to see him at Bonnaroo 2008

      • JackieB

        Thanks Jay!! Well-put yourself.

    • Bob

Who’s stupid enough to still buy music these days? LOL that’s unbelievable.

  • Meelissa

People keep begging them to “MOVE ON” and you keep saying you’re so sick of it. If you’re really sick of it then STOP responding to articles regarding this. As long as this story gets hits whether positive or negative they will run it so if you are truly sick of it STOP RESPONDING and the story will die once Kanye decides to let it go. BTW, it isn’t Taylor she only responded once on the anniversary but Kanye has been milking this story for a few months now and lets not forget the twitters just a couple weeks ago and now a magazine article after he just performed at the VMA’s. The only person who hasn’t let go is Kanye.

  • Alice

We get it! Now shut up and move on already
