Sara Bareilles tops Billboard 200 albums chart

Sara Bareilles earns her first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 albums chart with Kaleidoscope Heart. Her sophomore effort tops the chart with 90,000 copies sold. Eminem‘s Recovery lifts one rung to No. 2, selling 81,000 albums. The Now 35 compilation drops one to No. 3 and 63,000 units moved, while Katy Perry‘s Teenage Dream keeps its No. 4 spot with 59,000 copies sold.

Last week’s No. 1, Disturbed’s Asylum, trips to No. 5, selling 57,000 copies. Stone Sour’s Audio Secrecy opens at No. 6 with 46,000 albums moved. Interpol’s self-titled offering starts at No. 7, selling 38,000 sets. With 35,000 copies sold, Justin Bieber’s My World 2.0 keeps his No. 8 standing.

Anberlin’s Dark Is the Way, Light Is a Place comes in at No. 9 in its opening week with 31,00 albums sold. And the soundtrack to Camp Rock 2: the Final Jam falls down one to No. 10 with 31,000 copies sold.

It was a pretty quiet week on the chart. Who do you think is going to be the next artist to shake things up? (Next week Linkin Park and Trey Songz will both make their debuts.) Let us know what you think.

    uhmmmmmmmmm
I guess record labels must be so upset by such low sells……
Anyway I find her music so boring, but at least she is a talented singer.

Never liked Bareilles before, but “Kaleidoscope Heart” is a fantastic album. One of the best pop albums of the year.

Does no one proofread these things? It should me “make THEIR debuts”

  • Kaitlyn

should *be. now I look like an a**hole

    • David

      THAT was very funny.

I hope you learned now that everyone makes mistakes. These are blog postings, big deal. Worry when it happens over and over in print magazines, otherwise, it’s just a waste.

Maroon 5 doesn’t even get a mention for their release next Tuesday? Considering they’ve sold over 10 million, I’m pretty sure they’re going to have a strong debut.
Also, yay for Sara! I am a proud owner of Kaleidoscope Heart and it is awesome, as expected.

Maroon 5′s album comes out on the 21st…

      but definitely, YAY SARA!!

      • TK

wowww totally read that wrong too. what i meant to say is that their album comes out the 21st (next week) but as far as chart performance, we won’t know until the week after. so next week’s chart will include Linkin Park but not M5….i didnt mean to sound rude in the first reply

King Mathers will have the top selling album of 2010 in the United States very soon…he’s currently pass 2.5 million and Lady A. at 2.6…also, this week (or next week) King Mathers should pass Justin Bieber in worldwide sales…he will have the #2 worldwide best seller of 2010 behind Lady Gaga…and close behind her too… :)

Current top worldwide album sales of 2010 (not including this week)

    1. Lady Gaga: The Fame (Monster) – 4.8 million
    2. Justin Bieber: My World (My World + My World 2.0) – 4.2 million
    3. Eminem: Recovery – 4.1 million

Her music is square, but she’s great eye candy. I hope she *never* fixes her nose. I love it!

  • Law

so proud of her, i love the new album. honestly, it is lucky for her to nail the top spot as this is a quiet week, but she really deserves it.
i hope people will pay more attention to her, she writes all her music on the album, and you can feel how hardworking she is when you are listening to the songs.
    good job Sara!

Maybe they should start releasing the American Idol winner’s CD on a week like this so they can claim to have a decent debut – at least in terms of chart placement.

  • kelsey

Love you Sara! I’ve been listening to her new album nonstop. I don’t think I’ve ever owned a top-selling album at the time of its release … maybe Mariah Carey’s Butterfly, I think.

  • Fred

Awesome!Sara Bareilles is one of the most literate songwriters around and quite the musician and singer to boot.

  • Sally

Anyone who has seen this young woman in concert and walks away saying her music is “boring” must have walked through the wrong door. She is amazing on record and controls the audience in person.
