Watch Florence + the Machine perform live at SIRIUS

Well you and everybody else. Following her appearance at the VMAs over the weekend, her debut album Lungs soared to No. 2 on the iTunes album chart, and the single “Dog Days Are Over” jumped from No. 105 to claim the No. 9 spot on the overall singles chart. Need more proof that she’ll soon be taking America by storm? Post-VMAs she was the No. 1 search on Google, and over in the Twitterverse the band received 1.7 thousand tweets per minute. And such is life for Florence Welch.

“It was so surreal,” singer Florence Welch told us when we caught up with her at SIRIUS satellite radio’s New York offices, where she was taping a performance for The Spectrum a few days after the VMAs. “I couldn’t believe I was living in post-VMA time frame. It honestly felt like I was going to be about to play the VMAs forever.” Next on the British-born star’s agenda is a U.S. tour, followed by recording her second album, due sometime in 2011.

With a guitarist and harpist at her side, Welch belted out “Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up),” “Cosmic Love,” and “Dog Days Are Over” to a small group of people in the SIRIUS studio. Check out this video of her performance after the jump. Welch’s segment will air Monday at 4 p.m. (ET) on SIRIUS channel 18 and XM channel 45.

I love her recently released album. Every single song is quite…epic…

    i don’t like her voice.

that is matter of opinion, and mine is that you are insane. She is pure talent. No tart-star could ever sing like her. Pure. Raw. Talent.
I’ve loved her since hearing “Happy Slap’ forever ago. She is humble and will go far with out it runing her sound.

My only issue with this band (because it is a band) and even just Florence, is that they are all so incredably talented that every time I see them live I instantly like the live-version of the songs much better than the recorded version. Anyway, this is pure talent and it took me 3 years to convince 5 friends to listen to her, so in a way I’m thankful MTV had her perform at the VMAs.

There’s nothing wrong with not liking someone’s voice (it is a matter of preference, which one cannot help), my only issue is when someone tries to form that opinion into fact, as in saying that she cannot sing. It’s one thing to say that you don’t like her tone or her style, I can respect and understand that. But it’s another to try and deny the fact that the girl can sing, and sing damn well.

The song Cosmic Love off her album is even better than this. She blew everybody off the stage at the VMAs. The only talent in the building that night even in the same ballpark was Mary J. Blige.

Cosmic Love is one of my favorite songs, ever. No lie, super epic.

Much as I cannot stand her, I’d say Gaga as well, if that little acapella performance she gave during her acceptance speech was anything to go by. But seriously, with the exception of those three performers, that night was practically devoid of real talent, which is such a sad statement on our music industry.

Florence + the Machine were by far the best acts at the VMAs this weekend. She is a perfect example of someone who is able to capitalize on the VMAs, I think many people would agree that was on the VMAs that Florence + the machine became major stars.

      What – here in America?

I’ve been hooked to Florence + The Machine since last year and really, her voice is amazing. Great to hear that a new album will be out next year and hopefully it will be released in the U.S. sooner than Lungs was. Everyone should check out her cover of “You’ve Got the Love” remixed by the XX.
