Image Credit: Quang LeEven though he’s coming off a huge summer where his Bruno Mars-assisted “Billionaire” ruled the charts, Travie McCoy’s run isn’t slowing down just yet. Fox’s cheery drama, Glee, will breathe new life into the aspirational cut tonight (Sept. 21) on the premiere of its second season. The Gym Class Hero is a fan of the show, so he couldn’t turn them down when he heard they wanted his song.
“They just came to my management to get the okay,” Travie say. “Once I found out, I was all about it. I was just watching Glee last night. I didn’t realize how deep that show is. It’s funny, but there’s definitely some serious s— going on. I’m stoked to be a part of it.” McCoy hasn’t seen or heard Glee’s version yet. He’ll be tuning in tonight like everyone else. “I’m excited to see how they’re going to pull it off,” he says.
Travie just released his latest single, the mid-tempo breakup cut “Need You” and is currently out with director Shane Valdés shooting its video. But he’s also excited about getting together with his group again for the next Gym Class Heroes album. They’ll be getting in the studio later this year to work on it. McCoy’s hoping to release the album next summer, saying that they’ve already knocked out a bunch of tracks.
“We had a little free time before the summer and we rented an abandoned church in upstate New York and we got about 12-13 songs done there,” he says. “Now we’re about 16-17 demos deep. They’re still all rough, but there’s a lot of potential there. It’s a good head start to have going into writing a record. There’s no pressure.”

God EW, enough with the Glee articles already.
Are you from ONTD by any chance?
Yeah.I am so tired of all of the GLee stuff.the shows not even that good.
Then stop reading the articles dumb@ss!!
then why are you guys here?
read something else and let us enjoy!
Is it just me or did Glee kinda suck tonight? The stories were REALLY awkward and the songs while cute were just as awkwardly executed.
Charice was amazing though. Too bad she’ll be away with Vocal Adrenaline.
No it wasn’t just you. I was kind of bored w/ the episode as well.
Thanks for the article on Travie. I love that Glee choose his song to be featured in the premier episode.I can’t wait for the new Gym Class Heroes cd!
I hate hate hate that song. Its so thin it only has one side. Weak, shallow, fluff. THAT is your big solo smash? Of course, all the 14 old boys love it. Formage!
The song is OK. But regardless how I feel about it, I’m glad a Travie track was highlighted by Glee before anything of Katy Perry’s will be or (hopefull) never will be. She was so desperate to get featured on this show, trying too hard, and trying to get her non-fans to start a petition. Ha! Attention-wh0res never win when it comes to true talent, Katy.
Small victories, I guess.
“Billionaire” sounds like something Sublime left in a vault for 15 years, before Bruno Mars slathered a few layers of AutoTune on top of it.
Is it better to be a very talented, insouciant attention grabbing person or someone who is petty and envious? I’m leaning in a certain direction on that one.
I am so excited for Travie because I’m a huge Gym Class Heroes fan. His solo stuff has really grown on me.Nice that he is having some success with Lazarus. I’m really feeling the new songs Need You and We’ll Be Alright.Nice version of Billionaire on Glee too.
Billionaire sounds nothing like Sublime. lol It seems like every time a song with a reggae beat comes out, it is automatically compared to Sublime as if they invented reggae or something.
