This is absurd…RUSH long deserves to be in the Hall of Fame…KISS for that matter too…there is no reason RUSH should not be inducted…I would like to know the criteria that goes into these decisions because it certainly seems biased to me!!!

  • James Howlett

No Rush, Yes, Genesis, KISS, AC/DC? Screw them.

    • Karl

Actually, Genesis was inducted last year.

      Just sayin’…

      • freshied

This is a joke. I can go on and on about this, but i will just say watch RUSH: Behind the Lighted Stage and you will see how hypocritical the RRHOF is. When you have a current inductee (Kirk Hammett of Metallica) use two words “HUGE INFLUENCE” then you cannot tell me they do not warrant a nomination!!!!

      • freshied

Sorry did not mean to post that here. I did want to say that it did take the F#*!ING HOF WAY TOO LONG to nominate and induct Genesis!!!!!

    • ALM

Um, dude, Genesis was inducted last year and AC/DC was inducted in 2003. But yes, agreed with the other three. Actually, Rush seems to a slam-dunk consensus every time this topic comes up. Maybe they’re the Susan Lucci of Rock.

Alice Coopr, Bon Jovi, Neil Diamond are okay, I guess, but this is a seriously underwhelming list of nominees.

Carpenters- Their original and refreshing sound has been popular for 40 years. They bucked the prevailing hard-rock of 1970 and became the top selling American act of the 70s. If ABBA can be inducted then surely there is room for Karen Carpenter’s phenomenal voice.

    • Jenny

      You bet!

  • Dee Jones

Salt N Pepa next year. Definately should be the first female rap act to be inducted.

    • Alan

Actually, Dee, Blondie was already inducted in 2006. In case it’s forgotten, Blondie had the first rap song to hit number 1 – Rapture.

      • Juan

Valid point but Blondie were not a rap act and I wouldn’t call them a female group.

      • StPeteBill

I believe Blondie was classed a punk or new wave originally.

  • S.O.

Subbed yet again: The Cure, Depeche Mode, The Smiths, Joy Division/New Order. Not even the Red Hot Chili Peppers were nominated. all these band have had a major influence not just in Alternative / Indie Rock, but music in general in over 20 years.

    • Chris

The Smiths will make it in there eventually, I’m sure. Not only were they hugely influential, but they are critics’ darlings, and that always helps for the HoF.

  • Kolia D

Alice Cooper, finally. Well deserved. As long as bands like Rush and Kiss being left off year after year makes the RRHOF a joke. I’m sure the Village People are considered bigger rockers and influences than Rush by RRHOF standards..

  • Steve

It’s about time Neil Diamond received a nomination; he’s covered by everybody and it’s time to put him over the top and get him elected. Notables missing are ELO (at least Jeff Lynne) and Moody Blues.

    • Plato

I was surprised to find that Diamond was not already in the hall. So many diverse artists have covered his songs. If the hall is about talent, Diamond has always had it and he deserves the nomination.

  • Mark

RUSH is one of the best rock bands to ever walk the Earth. Nominating LL cool J and the Beastie Boys over RUSH is Joke!!!!

    • Uzi

Rush, that’s Canadian nerd rock, right?

      • sianne

If you classify Rush as “Canadian nerd rock” than you know absolutely nothing about Rock and Roll.

      • Nofool

Hey,,,,,gro back to listening to your God(s) Justin Bieber and Lady Ga Ga…now run along.

  • Karl

This is a typical Hall of Fame nominee list” a few to pander to the common folk, a few that actually belong in serious HoF discussion, and a few that are there solely to give Jann Wenner’s circle-jerk society the perceived aura of prestige. This Hall simply represents Rolling Stone magazines musical tastes. The only innovative thing Wenner did was get the legal right to the name Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The name alone does not legitimize squat.

  • JON

S.O. I couldnt agree with you more, what the Cure, DM Smiths and New Order have done influencing the bands of today should be recognized by at least one of those you mentioned being inducted. Really what has the disco era “influenced”? Oh well.

    • Juan

Really? Bernard himself has stated many times how he was influenced by Patrick Cowley and Bobby O, 2 pioneers in the disco genre. Listen to some of Cowley’s tracks and you’ll here a direct influence in the form of synth grooves and bass lines.

Disco gets a bad rap but you cannot deny the influence in different genres b

      • StPeteBill

Disco does get a bad rap and the funny thing it never died. Moreover so many even did disco you’d never expect-the Rolling Stones “Some Girls” album is a good example…

    • BJ

It seems like American artists get a leg-up over international artists, even the Brits and the Canadians. Are there any Aussies in the hall? I don’t know offhand.

  • KEVIN

Chicago has sold more songs than any American band in the history of music. No HOF could be complete without them. Time to close up that dump.

    • Stormy

Chicago has sold 100 million albums, Bon Jovi has sold 300 million.

  • StuartW

Still no Cheap Trick, Dire Straits, Badfinger, Chicago, War, Eurythmics, Rush, Hall & Oates? Ridiculous!

    • Plato

Those are all great artists. I’m sure they’ll eventually be inducted.

      • StPeteBill

I sure hope that they all get in before the Beastie Boys!

    • Avery

      You forgot Little Feat.

      • DAVE

I totally agree!!! Feat is still among the best – 40 years!

  • Brian

    Tom Waits for sure!!

  • DL

Another observation… seems you only qualify if you were big in the U.S. What about Kate Bush? A legend in the U.K.; first woman to have a U.K. #1 hit with a self-penned song (“Wuthering Heights, 1978), first woman solo artist to have a U.K. #1 album (“Never Forever”, 1980), multi-award winner, etc., etc, Her album “Hounds of Love” knocked Madonna’s “Like a Virgin” from the #1 spot in the U.K. upon its release in 1985…

    • Karl

It all depends on whether Jann Wenner & company believe a nominee is worthy/cool enough to be included in their little clique. “Deserve” has nothing to do with it.
