'America's Got Talent' winner Michael Grimm signs with Epic Records

Michael-GrimmYou know what they say: If you build it, they will come. So naturally, in today’s reality show-obsessed world, if you win a televised talent competition…you’re likely to get a record deal. In a press release, Epic Records announced the signing of recent America’s Got Talent winner Michael Grimm. The self-described “blue-eyed soul singer” impressed the judges and voters at home with his skillful guitar playing and smooth voice week after week as he covered soul classics like “You Don’t Know Me,” “Let’s Stay Together,” and “When a Man Loves a Woman.” Grimm’s signing follows the path of last season’s AGT winner, country singer Kevin Skinner, who released his debut album Long Ride last September.

In a recent interview, Grimm told EW that he hoped winning America’s Got Talent would allow him to “cut the album [he’s] been wanting to cut,” and give him the exposure and promotion necessary to perform beyond his Las Vegas home. “I know the genre, I know the route I want to go on this album, what it looks like, and smells like, and sounds like,” Grimm said. According to Epic, Grimm plans to release a solo album in March 2011.

Grimm is currently rehearsing for the upcoming America’s Got Talent Live, which kicks off this Friday in Oakland, Calif. The tour will travel to 25 cities and feature performances by season 5’s Top 10 contestants, including finalists Prince Poppycock and Jackie Evancho.

Will you be purchasing Grimm’s music come March?

    Heck yeah I will!

    • Nickie

I love this guy! I picked him out from the auditions! Glad he will have an album coming out and I will be buying it!

    • Sherry

I agree with GM101, Michael is absolutely the best, I voted for him consistently and I’m 62 yes old! I’m just waiting for a new release!

      • Caroline

At 62 it is no surprise that you consistently voted for M.Grimm. So am I (62) and also voted for him all the way through. Our generation grew up with quality music and we know it when we hear it. All blessings to Michael Grimm – he has a really good sound and he’s got the sexy too!!

    • Sue

Absolutely!! Have 2 of his CDs now and looking forward to the latest release!

  • brandy

Definitely the first AGT contestant I was ever interested in checking out after the show. I hope he does well!

  • Maile

Can hardly wait for his album. Best singer I have heard in many a year. Bought his 4 CD’s that were independently produced and love every one of them.
    Aloha.

  • Izzy

I already have 4 of his CD.Love them all and can’t wait for the next one.

  • Mickey

Most definitely. I already have his independently made cds, but can’t wait for this new cd with major label backing. It’s about time someone with true talent gets recognized.

  • Wilma

Michael Grimm is “just a singer,” as one of the people quoted in the article pointed out. He is ok but just not an exciting act like the other three. He was a DISTANT fourth place in the finals. One has to wonder how rigged the AGT system is–no independent voting certification, the “winner” is beholdin to Simon Cowell’s company for x number of years. If the “winner” doesn’t cut it, they are set free. AGT, I am disappointed in the whole facade.

    • Sauncie

You apparently do not know much about singing and guitar playing and being able to do them simultaneously. It’s not as easy as great musicians make it look. Michael’s voice is souful and for music afficionados, we see his ability as authentic. If you are looking for someone to jump around on stage, he’s not for you. Soul/Blues singers rarely do. It is a genre for people who can appreciate his talent for it. So piss off, and go somewhere else with your sarcasm. You probably have no soul in your bones!

      • angie

        I totally agree with Sauncie.

      • Sally

I agreed with Sauncie as well. Right up to the last 2 sentences. The post was well written and adult. Right up to the “piss off” comment.

      • Mary Jane Curtin

Sauncie, settle down girl! Wilma wasn’t sarcastic–you just like Mike and don’t like anyone who has a different opinion. Live and let live, I say. I don’t like Grimm either (too boring, nothing new here) so will you call me names too?

      • grandma101

I wasn’t overly impressed with Michael at first. There seemed to be so many others that were impressive. BUT NOW? Holy COW! He knocks my socks off! and I’m OLD.

      • Larry

I tottally agree with Sauncie and Sally. As a 62 year old musician I have at least a bit of experience in the biz and can testify that this guy has talent. His voice quality is flawless and his soulfulness is real and is one of the factors that many other technically good singers have difficulty grasping, thus the difference between a good singer and a star quality artist. Bill Medley (Righteous Brothers) thinks so too.

    • DORA TEUTIMEZ

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MICHAEL GRIMM ONE OF THE BEST SINGERS I HAVE HEARDIN A DECADE I AM GOING TO HIS SHOW OCT 7 I HAVE HIS CDS CANT WAIT FOR ALBUM

    • mindgames

      b**** u mad XD

      HE WON FAIR AND SQUARE

    • Robtimus Prime

Actually, Michael Grimm or any AGT winner for that matter) has no contractual obligations to Simon Cowell’s company for ANY number of years. That’s the beauty of this show, he gets the money, the Vegas act and a record deal if he chooses but by no means is he bound to Simon Cowell. Get your facts straight.

      • Andy

He is bound to Simon now. He signed a record deal with him.

  • gleeishorrible

    taylor hicks 2.0

    • angie

If Glee is horrible to you, music is not for you at all. Go somewhere else, grumpy.

      • hannah

Glee might be good if they covered good songs. Too campy and simply annoying.

    • sweetsmoke1

Well that’s a great compliment since Hicks has one of the great soul voices in recent years. Let’s see if Grimm is making over $3.5 million in 4 years like Taylor is.

  • Sauncie

Your damned right I am….can’t wait!!!!! This guy is come of the best talent to emerge mainstream in a very long time!!!

    • grandma101

First powerhouse to emerge from AGT, but Idol has had stars, e.g., Carrie Underwood. Nobody has made it as big as she has.

  • Sandy

I am thrilled for Michael. He seems like a kind, down to earth and very talented guy. Best wishes to you, Michael.

  • JFWilder

I thought he was very good, and sounded a LOT like Stevie Ray Vaughn in voice. I just wish he’d ditch the all-black look and do an SRV sort of style…it would be a better complement to his vocals.

  • Jacky7777

I sure will be buying Michaels first album- been waiting!!

    • Andy

Better go to Amazon and get the first 4 already out.

  • Rosie

    I’ll be first in line!

  • Kellie Elson

Yes I will ! I can’t wait to see what the new cd will be. He is a wonderful song writter and that voice.. Yep I am planning on buying anything this fellow puts out..

  • angie

Definitely YES! And I can get a truck load of people who want to buy Grim music as well.

  • Sharon Getz

For sure – all his fans have been waiting for this!

    • Sharon Getz

And yes I have already purchased all of his independently produced cds!
