Kanye West vents about leaked music, revokes Internet's free tune privileges

Kanye-WestImage Credit: Will Ragozzino/Getty ImagesHappy now, Internet? Yesterday a new Kanye West song called “Lost in the World” leaked online and was promptly posted on tons of music sites. Except that was just an unfinished version of “Lost in the World,” as anyone who listened closely might have noticed. West is so mad about this that he’s calling off his “G.O.O.D. Friday” program of gifting us with a brand-new 100% free song at the end of every week.

“Due to blogs leaking unfinished songs from my actual album I’ve decided to pass of Good Fridays this week,” West tweeted late last night. “It’s messed up that one hacker can mess everything up for everyone… I love to take a year to finish my songs and deliver them to you guys in there most completed form… It would have seemed like since I give free music every week even the lowest form of human being would respect that enough not to leak unfinished songs from my real album…”

He’s got a point there. This guy has been giving us tons of awesome free music lately, and still people feel the need to break into his files and steal works in progress? Greedy, greedy fans. Luckily, it sounds like he’ll be bringing “G.O.O.D. Fridays” back next week, and he later tweeted that he’s been staying in the studio ’til 3 A.M. every night to finish his album as soon as possible.

OCT. 1 UPDATE: West appeared to relent today, tweeting, “For the real hip hop fans… even though I had to shift all my energy to mixing my album [due] to leaks…. I’m trying to still deliver a new Good Friday song 2nt… Let’s pray!!!” Whew.

Did you hear “Lost in the World” when it leaked? (Don’t tell Kanye I said this, but it was pretty dope even in incomplete form.) What do you think of his decision to punish us by skipping “G.O.O.D. Fridays” this week? How much longer can you wait for his album?

Putting “Liz Lemon” in front of all that didn’t seem as funny as the other ones :)

    • Karate Pants

True, serious-and-focused Kanye doesn’t bode well for the game. So I’ll hang onto my favorite from a few days ago:
Liz Lemon, Remember the museum plastic spaceship toys that were molded right in front of you?…. Those use to smell awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The listening ercexienpe sounds so exciting, such an exquisite ercexienpe Whenever, I changed my mind about a road trip, shopping trip, club trip, all in one trip, my late best friend would always say when giving me the details, with a big koolaid smile, Netice, you should have came gurl.. Aww I wish I was there.. I did say Jay was boring but his music is not. It is quite captivating, so much, all his albums are timeless. I am still bumping bp3. Death of Autotunes is my wake up the neiborhood, I am going to church song.. I love when the sax roar.. He never disappoint. Ye is intriquing.. I’ll just have to wait till August 8.. Bless..

Used to think this guy was genius…until he couldn’t use there/their properly. You suck Kanye.

    • obama!!!!!

      He used it correctly dumb@ss.

      • Grubi

Nah, he didn’t use it correctly. He used “there” when it was supposed to be “their.” Since “most completed form” is supposed to be possessive, you are supposed to use “their.” That said, even though he used the wrong word, that seems like a pretty stupid reason not to like him. It also makes Brian come off as incredibly pretentious (not to mention that grammar isn’t exactly the most important part of Twitter).

    • zryii

Oh no, he used the wrong form of there/their. As if I don’t see it used wrongly 20 times a day in comments and on facebook. Pull your enormous head out of your ass and get over your pretentious self.

I’m not Kanye fan but I despise internet piracy.

  • persimmon

I have a question, is it right for creators to “punish” fans for stuff like this?
I don’t know what I think I can see it both ways but it still seems weird.

  • Karate Pants

And with that, I no longer have to struggle to link Kanye to Stephenie Meyer in the 6 degrees game.

  • Hroux

Yeah it’s ok for him to do this; I mean jus think of this way: the leaked song [Lost in the World] is taking the place of the potential Good Friday song…no biggie! Plus, I can guarantee u the final version this song is gonna b wayyyy better [even tho this is alrede pretty damn good!]

Btw does anyone else this Kanye deserves a round of applause for sampling [quite well, I might add] someone like Bon Iver!? Go Kanye!!!

    • tinap

i get it too. i was would be PISSED if i worked to give free music and this happened. i think everyone who was hoping for a new hit this friday understands enough to wait until next week.

i also don’t mind bad grammer on twitter for two reasons- at least he’s writing his own messages and, well, it twitter.

  • couchgrouch

I don’t know about “awesome” or “music”. the lyric to Lost In the World is garbage. that guy can’t write.

  • Galaxy

if this is the incomplete version I cant wait for how the finish product sounds.Kanye has the right to do whatever he wants to do with HIS music and spell how he wants, I’m sure it was a mistake anyway.

  • CB

    Pretty dope…Please.

West has jumped off the deep and I don’t think he is coming back.

The author of this colimn is pretty dope.

  • Yaseen

I am GUTTED that the track was Leaked. I feel so bad for yeezy. That song could have gone huge and still could! OW MAN! No G.O.O.D Friday this week. :( Kanye if you see this. I’m Sorry Man. Yaseen Hussian :-|

  • dmcrun

But can’t artists work in computers that are completely disconnected from the internet or does software need to be connected online to be able to use it?

  • Phil

The album is coming out in 6 weeks. When is Kanye going to drop the next official single to digital outlets? I heard last week, that eventhough it was huge in mixshows, and he’d released a slew of singles, including the “Runaway” song with Pusha T, that radio is in fact getting the Bon Iver, Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj and Rick Ross assisted “Monster” for official adds next week. Does this mean we’ll also finally get a video to go along with this monster line-up?!

    • Andrew

to phil ^^^ monster has been on the radio already..

      • Phil

it wasn’t supposed to be a ‘radio single’, just an album teaser, but it went for official adds at Rhythm radio stations last week since its had such a huge response.
