Lady Gaga's origins spark another lawsuit

Wendy-StarlandImage Credit: David Livingston/Getty Images; Janet Mayer/PR PhotosThe legal controversy over who discovered Lady Gaga rages on. Just weeks after producer Rob Fusari’s multi-million-dollar lawsuit against Gaga and her own counterclaim were both quietly withdrawn, another figure from the star’s early days is going to court. This time it’s a singer named Wendy Starland who is suing Fusari.

In papers filed Sept. 24 in the U.S. District Court for New Jersey, Starland says she’s the one who introduced Fusari to the then-unknown Stefani Germanotta. “In 2005, at a face-to-face meeting in New Jersey, Fusari told Starland that he was searching for a unique female singer, under the age of 25, who could be the female equivalent of the lead singer of the band ‘The Strokes,'” the lawsuit claims. “Fusari then promised Starland that, if she could find and introduce him to such a singer, they would work together to develop the singer and share equally in any revenues earned as a result.” The following year, Starland says, she introduced Fusari to the woman who would soon become the megasuccessful Lady Gaga — and yet she says she’s never seen a penny of those allegedly promised revenues from Fusari.

Fusari’s attorney has not responded to EW’s requests for comment. Til then, what do you think of this suit?

  • wino

well, if Gaga can testitfy/admit that Stephanie did introduce her to Fusari, then there might be some truth to the claim. Unfortunately, i dont know how legit verbal contracts are in the state of New Jersey.

Wendy Starland needs to sit down.. Next she will file a lawsuit claiming she created “Snooki”

  • Broad on Wall

Yes but its true. Wendy really “discovered” Gaga when she was Stefani. When Stef got her first record contract she thanked Wendy with a Gucci purse.

Girls gotta look out for each other!

I take it Wendy is doing not so well at her day job.

  • Vanilli

Sure, now when she is famous, everybody who knew her ever, wants her money. Considering she is having 360 deal, there is not much money left to spend on court.

gaga and her label stole everything she is from everyone spanning madonna to marilyn manson. she’s no artist, she’s just the queen if copypasta in terms of the music industry – she is the true definition of plagiarism.

Vanilli (and anyone else who might not be paying attention): This woman isn’t suing Gaga. She’s suing Rob Fusari, a producer who himself attempted to sue Gaga. Please spend a few seconds reading the article before you post a comment next time. Thanks.
