Bruno Mars arrested for alleged cocaine possession

bruno-marsBruno Mars was arrested early Sunday morning in Las Vegas on suspicion of cocaine possession, according to police. While it was initially reported that the singer-songwriter-producer behind hits like “Nothin’ on You” and “Billionaire” had been busted with an unknown narcotic, a report issued this afternoon by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department identifies the suspected substance.

Police say they were summoned to Las Vegas’ Hard Rock Casino at 1:50 A.M. on Sept. 19 “to investigate the report of a Latin male adult being detained by hotel security.” Mars, born Peter Hernandez, had performed at the venue hours earlier. Police say they found Mars with 2.6 grams of “‘white powdery substance’ believed to be cocaine.” He was booked and released at 7:45 A.M. the same day and has not yet been charged.

UPDATE: A spokesperson for the Clark County District Attorney’s office says that it will probably decide whether or not to proceed with criminal charges by the end of this week. If charges are filed, Mars will most likely be due to appear in court Nov. 18.

Reps for Mars have not yet commented on his arrest.

Amy Winehouse to Mark Ronson: 'You're dead to me'

Winehouse-vs-mark-ronsonImage Credit: Mark Allan/WireImage.comHe tried to take the praise for “Rehab,” she said no, no, no. Amy Winehouse is apparently none too pleased with producer Mark Ronson’s claim to U.K. late-show host Jools Holland that he “created” the finished songs on her Grammy-winning Back to Black from Winehouse’s own demos.

Wino took to her personal—not official and record-company sanctioned—Twitter page @amyjademermaid to vent her displeasure, posting: “One album i write an[d] you take half the credit. Make a career out of it? don’t think so BRUV.”

YouTube has footage of Ronson’s musical performance (with guests Boy George and Miike Snow’s Andrew Wyatt) on the show, which aired Friday night in England, but nothing of the interview. So it’s difficult to say for sure exactly how the songwriter and producer—there to promote his own new album—represented his part in Black‘s creation.

Suffice it to say, Winehouse’s tweet does not bode especially well for the pair’s ongoing professional relationship, though she did claim in July that her upcoming followup, which she described as “very much the same as my second album, where there’s a lot of jukebox stuff and songs that are… just jukebox,” as being ready “in six months at most.”

Winehouse and Ronson last worked together on a cover of Lesley Gore’s 1963 weepie “It’s My Party” for an upcoming Quincy Jones tribute album, to be released in November.

UPDATE: The Guardian now has the complete (and frankly, pretty reasonable-sounding) quote that so riled Wino: When asked to describe what he does as a music producer, Ronson replied, “Working with someone like Amy Winehouse, she would come to me with just a song on an acoustic guitar and then you’d kind of dream up the rhythm arrangements and the track around it, all sorts of things. It’s really different, artist to artist.”

According to the AP, the damages are to be divided between four defendants, based on how much responsibility each was assigned. Kid Rock will pay 15 per cent.

The case resulted from a fight which took place on October 21, 2007. In March of the following year, Kid Rock pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of simple battery. Rock was not present in court to hear the the jury’s decision.

Soundgarden get animated and meet Dethklok in their first video for more than ten years

soundgardenImage Credit: Danny ClinchYou’d have to go a long way to find someone who likes the death metal-themed Adult Swim cartoon show Metalocalypse as much as I skreeeeak-ing do. In fact, you might have to go as far as Seattle, or wherever the the assorted members of the recently reformed Soundgarden call home these days. The grunge icons have proven their love by recruiting Metalocalypse co-creator Brendon Small to oversee the clip for “Black Rain,” a Badmotorfinger-era outtake that features on Soundgarden’s upcoming retrospective CD Telephantasm.

In truth, the video is not as funny as Metalocalypse—or funny at all, really. But it does boast giant monsters, a huge ‘Garden-controlled robot thingummybob, Metalocalypse stars Dethklok, and a nicely epic and phantasmagorical vibe. It also features a hard-to-miss plug for Guitar Hero, the latest version of which—Warriors of Rock—is released September 28 and is initially available for purchase with copies of Telephantasm included.

You’ll find footage from the “Black Rain” video after the break. Take a look, and tell us what you think!

Taylor Momsen gets naked in the Pretty Reckless' new 'Make Me Wanna Die' video

Pretty-RecklessWhat Would Tim Gunn Say? Little vixen Taylor Momsen—the punching bag of the fashion guru and Project Runway host as of late—has released the latest music video from her band the Pretty Reckless for the very alt-’90s-sounding single “Make Me Wanna Die,” and it’s basically one big doozy of a strip show.

The stripper? Taylor Momz, of course. (Note: She’s 17 years old. Just sayin’.) Granted, the Gossip Girl star doesn’t go all the way down to her birthday suit, but she gets pretty close in some scanty lingerie. It looks like someone is looking for a little attention, and clearly (with this post as evidence!) she found it: READ FULL STORY »

T.I.: Album in limbo as court issues summons

Categories: Legal Troubles, T.I.

TIImage Credit: Michael Loccisano/Getty ImagesT.I.‘s legal troubles continue to mount after his Sept. 1 arrest on drug charges. According to documents posted by E! News (h/t MTV), a U.S. District Court has issued a summons requiring the rapper to appear in court and explain why he should not be sent back to prison.

The documents allege that police found marijuana, codeine, and Ecstasy in T.I. and his wife’s car when they were pulled over in Hollywood earlier this month. It also says he tested positive for opiates in a recent drug test, and that he has spent time associating with another convicted felon. If true, these charges could potentially violate the terms of T.I.’s probation for his 2008 weapons conviction.

A rep for T.I.’s label, Atlantic Records, declined to comment on his legal situation. Atlantic still does not have a release date set for T.I.’s next album, King Uncaged, which he was hoping to finish recording soon at the time of his arrest.

'Paparazzi'-covering phenom Greyson Chance expected to release music this fall

greyson-chanceImage Credit: Chris Hatcher/PR PhotosYesterday, Ellen DeGeneres announced that she had signed British singer Tom Andrews as the second artist on her eleveneleven label. Which got us wondering what had happened to her company’s first artist, Greyson Chance, who at the age of 12 became an Internet phenom earlier this year thanks to a video of him performing Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi.”

The answer? Quite a lot. According to a spokesperson for Telepictures Productions, which makes Ellen, young Mr Chance is “in the studio and we expect to release this fall.”

But it’s not all been work, work, (home)work. On Sunday, Chance attended the VMAs where he hung out with Justin Bieber and Jaden Smith—you can watch this summit after the jump. He’s also found time to visit Seattle where, according to his facebook page, he made lots of new friends.

Are you excited for new music from Chance? What do you think of Ellen’s A&R talents?

Adam Lambert reportedly facing battery allegation

Adam-LambertImage Credit: Taylor Hill/WireImage.comAdam Lambert has reportedly been accused of battering a photographer in Miami Beach last night. According to police documents posted by TMZ, the American Idol alum allegedly “wrestled [the photographer] to the ground forcefully” after becoming angered by unwanted picture-taking.

A rep for Lambert pointed toward the singer’s Twitter account, where he recently wrote, “Battery? Nope. I attempted to grab a camera, no punches were thrown and no one was on the ground…. It was literally harmless. If embarrassment is a crime- thats all I’m guilty of.” The Miami Beach Police Department has not responded to requests for further information.

Lady Gaga asks the Senate to end 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell': Watch her political advocacy clip here

lady-gaga-trailerLady Gaga is speaking out again in support of equal rights for all. The pop megastar has just released a video message asking the U.S. Senate to repeal the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy, which bans gay and lesbian Americans from serving openly in the military. (Legislation that could repeal the policy has already been passed in the House of Representatives.)

In the seven-minute black-and-white clip, which Gaga made for the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network, she wears a suit and tie in front of an American flag and explains why “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” violates the rights of men and women who want to serve their country. “Not only is the law unconsitutional, but it’s not even being properly or fairly enforced by the government,” Gaga says. “I am here to be a voice for my generation. Not the generation of the senators who are voting, but for the youth of this country. The generation that is affected by this law, and whose children will be affected. We are not asking you to agree with or approve the moral implications of homosexuality. We are asking you to do your job — to protect the Constitution.”
