Pink unveils new song for greatest-hits collection, 'Raise Your Glass'

pinkImage Credit: Marc Broussely/Redferns/Getty ImagesPink may be rowdy, but she’s punctual. The cockatiel-coiffed pop star’s official website promised fans a surprise at 6pm EST today, and at 6pm it was duly unveiled–a new track for her upcoming, modestly titled Greatest Hits … So Far!!, due November 16.

“Raise Your Glass,” a raucous NSFW ode to those who are “wrong in all the right ways,” toasts the “dirty little freaks” (with a glass full of … juice? kombucha?); stream it here.

The song already made news today when gossip sites reported a casting call for the upcoming video, which read, in part: ”REAL GAY COUPLE Lead Male or Female / 18 to 30 / All Ethnicities Seeking real gay couples. Pink is going to be marrying you!”

I love her & so glad she has roots in Philly. Happy to hear she is making positive advances for the gay community at a time when gay youth need (celebrity) support to know things will get better. As a gay man, its still sad to hear about things like the Ty Clementi teen, esp. since he went to a school so close to the cultural capital of the U.S. & still ended his life instead of experiencing all that New York, Chelsea & Manhattan has to offer. I spent many a weekend in NYC when I was 18/19 and it really hurts to have to think someone else has such a completely different experience that I did, and years later, when I thought acceptance wasn’t even that big of a deal any longer.

    • Karl

Well-said Phil. It’s a true tragedy. He should have had the opportunity to enjoy all NYC had to offer.

Well said I wish there was a way to stop the hate and bullying of the gay people! it saddens me that teens feel that suicide is the answer!! I am not gay, I am married with 2 children but I would love to see the world accept people for who they are and what they feel is right for them!!! I pray every day for true peace on earth and happiness in our hearts! back to P!NK!!! she is fabulous and says it like it is just like me!! love her

  • dropper

Cool song, I think she has herself another hit.

    • Caroline

Another great dance song from Pink.

I like Pink’s music but it suprises me that they are seeking a gay couple to be married by Pink for her upcoming video when awhile back I read an article in THE ADVOCATE about gay marriage and some singers/actors voiced thier response and (I believe) that Pink was against gay marraige, that gay couples didn’t have a right to get married. The Advocate article was published around the time when alot of people where not in favor of gays getting married. If I’m wrong please someone correct me.

    • Phil

I’m not going to start the search to prove you wrong, but Pink has ALWAYS been an advocate for gay rights, and even had lesbian tendencies with the Russian model/actress (I’m not googling her name) that was in TERMINATOR III years ago when her and her hubby were on rocky terms. If someone else would like to further help me help Miguel out, I’d appreciate it…

      • Miguel

@ Phil what does lesbian tendencies have to do with gays having rights to get married? The video is for a gay couple getting married NOT lesbian tendencies. Furthermore I did find THE ADVOCATE article it was back in April 2004 and Pink was ask by THE ADVOCATE her thoughts on the freedom to marry and she sent the following response: PLEASE READ VERY CAREFULLY PHIL “If you wanna marry “Joe Millionaire” go ahead. If you’re a celebrity and you wanna marry your high school sweetheart for 55 hours, go right ahead. If you’re J.LO, and you wanna marry 18 people, for 6 days each, hey! Go right on ahead! But if you happen to be reasonably minded and have fallen in love and wanna marry your soul mate and make a life of it, and you just so happen to be the same sex, then NO! How dare you! You demon creatures! We’d rather you just buy gasoline and support our war and continue to consume and fear in our country so we can make money off you. But do us a favor-don’t hold hands in public. Love, Pink.” So u see Phil how can I support an artist that doesn’t support us!

      • Phil

One that was 6 years ago, two, I don’t have that magazine, but I will stand on one foot and guess she was being completely sarcastic and you are taking her words completely out of context. The entire beginning part of that article was her smearing Britney Spears for marrying Jason Alexander for less than 2 days earlier than January, then J.Lo who was I believe engaged to Ben Affleck at the time or maybe linked to Diddy still..and then she says that if we gays even wanna entertain the idea to wed that GOD FORBID ANYONE LET US! I mean, you have to be able to see that, can’t you? I really can’t help you if you don’t sense her sarcasm.
And I’ve met Pink a few times, and one time was definitely at a gay night at a club in Philly AFTER her hometown show that night at the Tower Theater. She specifically requested hitting the gay club (formerly Chrome now The Roxy), and didn’t even want security, and wanted to be able to hang out with the rest of the clinetelle. Miguel, I think you’ve got the complet wrong idea & I have no problem defending her.

  • Miguel

@ Phil why would and artist ever joke about gay marriage, if at the same time they say they support gay rights? I am not taking her words out of context that was printed in black & white sorry no pics. And yes I know the first part of the article has to do with J.Lo and Britney. My point is does Pink support us gays 100%? I mean I never heard Lady G.G. make a sarcasm remark about gays or gay marraige. Don’t get me wrong I think she is a great all around artist and her music is excellent. And GOD FORBID ANYONE LET US!was NEVER in the article. I am just saying what I recall reading in The Advocate, it don’t matter if it happend 5,6, or 10yrs ago. Nobody brought it up because they probably didn’t read it or don’t care and I never read a response to her comment in The Advocate and I CAN’T confirm if you met her at all. Well Phil I also have no problem defending other artist that do support gay rights 100%.

    • Phil

Miguel I feel bad for you. I really do. Maybe the reason no one ever mentioned it was because they knew what she said was sarcastic and not true? Did you ever consider that? I really don’t want to argue with you, but as a gay man, and someone who has met her a few times, and she has been completely gracious and cool everytime, and considering she & I both have a friend in common, I am just going to kindly ask you to stop unless someone else can offer some other insight, because you’re starting to sound like a moron. I don’t take that dated artcile as being serious, & feel bad that you can’t tell the difference.

  • Miguel

Phil don’t feel bad for me and if you do then that’s your problem. But alot of singers/actors say something about us and then they say “it was a joke” or “my words where taken out of context” and then want us gays to support them. Well I feel sorry for you I really do. When an artist you admire makes a sarcasm remark or joke about gays. Also as a gay man I didn’t care if you claim you met her several times or are BFF till the end, that is not the point. And if you don’t want to argue stop responding back. End of discussion.

    • Phil

If you’ve been going on 6 years thinking Pink isn’t an advocate for gay rights & freedom & equality for all than you shouldn’t have the intelligence to know how to turn on your computer to access the internet. I’m not going to argue with you further, but seriously, why do u think she collaborated with the Indigo Girls on “Dear Mr. President” ?! I don’t just feel bad for you, I feel REALLY bad for you now.

      • Lorenzo

@ Phil just shut the F@#K UP. Miguel made a good point and besides who listens to the Indigo Girls now adays?

      • Phil

OMG…he doesn’t make a good point! Thats why I’m trying to be respectful but not enarly as awful as you as using such horrible language! As he pointed out..there’s no picture because it wasn’t an interview! OMG…Now you’re perpetuating his foolish notion. I wish someone else would chime in here so I am not the only one be attacked, but you and he are both taking this ridiculous new levels of stupidity. What artist works with openly gay artists unless they suppport homosexuals?! That was my point of mentioning her collaboration with the Indigo Girls, not thier relevance today. Their relevance is they were open about their sexuality at a time when it wasn’t perceived as “cool” in pop culture! How can you even be on an entertainment site and not know that!? Geez! Does someone have to replace staples for you too, when the stapler tun out?!
You & Miguel are reasons why its so difficult for gays to be seen as equals. For everyone one of us trying to be positive and ‘normal’ their are idiots like y’all tainting the pool!

      • Phil

        *runs out?!

  • Miss E

Until sarcasm font is invented, we will always have these sorts of arguments. A reasonable person would read that and know that she was totally kidding and making her point in the same ridiculous way that all of those who are against gay marriage make theirs. You know – because gay marriage is supposedly destroying what marriage is really all about, but all these TV shows where people pimp themselves out in the name of love isn’t?

Stop being so damn sensitive and lighten up.

I think it’s fitting that Pink’s putting out a greatest hits album. I have followed her since 2000, with that R&B-pop helmed first album before she shifted to a pop rock sound that fit with her aggressive image. She’s made very consistent albums and hits and this best of is a good look back as well as forward with new songs such as Raise Your Glass!

  • Tommy

Love this woman. She’s genuinely talented and is actually relevant. The same can’t be said of most of the other female singers currently ruling the charts.

  • Verle

Good points all around. Truly apprcaetied.
