To allison: Try being black baby. Try being short and a midget. These are people who are made fun of. Try being the only black person in a neighborhood or school….talk about being “talked about”….these young kids need to toughen up. I’m sick of this “I was bullied” it’s the cause du jour among the kid entertainers.
All of this escalated with twitter and cell phones….people passing taunts back and forth amongst themselves and then the kid finds out.
If it’s physical I can understand it, but what are words? We have some weak-kneed kids.
Any form of bullying is wrong. Period.
I truly am sorry that you were bullied.
A person cannot justly declare which form of bullying is worse: physical or emotional.
Physical bullying leaves scars, breaks bones, causes emotional problems, and sometimes can lead to death.
Emotional bullying leaves scars, can come back to haunt us in later years, can lead to physical problems (ever heard of stress breaking down your physical being, not only your state of mind?), and sometimes even death.
Also, every person is different.
Corny sounding, I know.
Legitimately, every single person on this earth is different. Every person thinks a different way, responds a different way, expresses emotion in a different way than others, and so on.
What you think is being “weak-kneed” could be someone else’s factor of depression.
Also, what hurt you could be what someone else thinks is “weak-kneed”.
I don’t think kids chose fame. Even if it’s what they want more than anything else, they only imagine they know what it is. I don’t know how anyone survives this intense scrutiny. I’m part of it. I’m reading this blog. Leah is part of it–she writes this stuff. We live in a weird time of informational orgies. Problem is, it can suck the life from the people it makes “stars”. I like Bill Murry’s advice: Be rich, not famous.
To all the comments about Demi and bullying. She has ALWAYS talked about being bullied at school. She didn’t start talking about it now because it’s the topic of the moment. Since she became famous she has talked about bullying and she has been involved in several organizations that help kids being bullied.
I hope she recovers. She’s the only disney girl I like.
Has anyone stop to think that maybe she deserved to be bullied? She’s not hot yet she is famous, probably because she slept with the pedo at Disney. No one likes her and that’s why she needs to cut herself for attention. Selena 4ever xoxo
Is this really necessary? There is no reason she would deserve to be bullied, and many would disagree with you because she really is making a good name for herself. She has taken wholesome roles, her music is catchy and realtes to girls her age, and she has made a name for herself without resorting to shooting down others. She does not need to get attention because she already has it. She’s been through some hard stuff so please respect her.
@jkx: This is the sort of thing that sends people into depression, clinics, counseling, etc.
For the record, Selena Gomez wouldn’t want this for Demi either.
i feel bad for her i think she really has good future ahead of her u rock demi !!!

She should take a lesson from Jodie Foster, she was also a Disney girl long before Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Lindsay Lohan, Miley Cyrus, rose to stardom. Jodie had transition from child roles to adult roles quickly when she hit 18. She even graduated at an Ivy League college. But she also has low points, she took a semester off because of the Ronald Reagan assassination attempt by John Hinckley, who was so obsessed with her. That crazy guy sent numerous letters to her dorm and he wanted to kill Reagan in order to win his love to Jodie. Even Jodie Foster was arrested for bringing pot to the airport after the break from Europe. She had suffered depression too.
Leah: This article is very well-written.
I applaud you!
:]
Im really sorry about demi, she seemed like such a nice person and rolemodel for other young girls, i hope everything works out for her
maybe, just maybe, quitting the tour IS the way Demi is handling the new girlfriend coming along on the tour! Perhaps there isnt any bullying going on at all. Perhaps it is just a dignified manner of leaving a situation that is too uncomfortable to stay with.
I think it’s so sad people feel the need to make fun of others to make themselves feel better. And NO PEOPLE, Demi didn’t do drugs or drink! When people are drunks and do drugs, you can tell. Demi is healthy-looking. Take Lindsey Lohan for example. When she started drinking and doing drugs, you could look at her face and tell that she was doing it. Her skin was sunken in and she had bags under her eyes.
Demi, on the other hand, has nothing of the sort. Only marks on her wrists and on her heart (cheesy, I know). Yeah, she punched her dancer, but it was the straw that broke the camel’s back. And that boy who claimed to see her at a party ‘drinking and doing cocaine like a pro’ just wanted fame and money. Yeah, she partied, that was confirmed, but it was a way to release and vent what she had going on.
Take account for the facts:
1) she was bullied before she ever got into the music/show business.
2) since that made her sensitive, when any negative press was published on her, it would affect her more than it would us maybe.
3) all of that built up over time.
4) constant pressure of being watched everywhere you go.
5) Starts to date Joe. Constantly watched.
6) Then when it doesn’t end well, people start spreading rumors, only making things worse.
7) Then she starts to go ON TOUR with her ex and his new girlfriend who is always around.
8)Then the paparazzi decides to start making fun of her weight, so she is freaking out about that too.
9) So now she has: ex bf always around, her ex bf’s new girlfriend always around, people making fun of her weight (when there is NOTHING wrong) so she starts not eating the way she should, and it builds up and breaks at a punch to her dancer.
Idk about you guys, but I don’t blame her and just hope she gets 100% better. I pray for her and always will, and hope she get on with her life when she gets out of the treatment facility.
demi lovto how did you get bullied
What the hell do they mean with ”too slutty” ?
I am not saying nonsense. This is awesome information. I have already came to similar conclusion. It is a real eye opener and may prompt me to make some serious changes to my current strategies.
