Kid Cudi, Cee-Lo Green, and Quincy Jones’ albums in stores today: Which will you buy?

kid-cudi-cee-lo-quincy-jonesKid Cudi’s Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager landed in stores today. Cudi, Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music teammate, has a sophomore album that’s just as spacey as the last, but way darker. After bouts with addiction, this grade A- record chronicles his trippy journey to higher ground. Cee-Lo Green’s The Lady Killer joins Cudi on shelves. It’s another album we loved—a stellar blend of Motown grooves, and lyrics that both spiteful and joyous. Legendary producer Quincy Jones’ Q: Soul Bossa Nostra is out as well. It’s a covers album featuring today’s stars singing his greatest hits. Michael Jackson’s “P.Y.T.” and Lesley Gore’s “It’s My Party” are included. Though panned by many, Jones said recently in an interview with us that he’s paying the haters no mind.

So you guys be the judge. Which albums will you be buying today or this week? Why? Let us know.

Quincy Jones’ album, with the exception of Jennifer Hudson’s cover of “You Put A Move On My Heart”, is a total disappointment. T-Pain nor Akon should have been allowed anywhere neer Q’s catalogue of classics!

CeeLo’s rendition of Band of Horses “No One’s Gonna Love You” is forcing me to buy his cd. Additionally, I still have Kid Cudi’s “Pursuit of Happines” as my ringtone. I made it my ringtone in February. Looks like I will be purchasing both cd’s.

Kid Cudi, all the way. Man on the Moon II is what I’ve been waiting for the entire fall. He has a unique sound and in my opinion, the absolute definition of cool.

    Cee Lo for the win!

Kid Cudi all the way. Been listening to it all morning. Dopeness!!!!!!

Cudi makes me want to cut myself. Depressing stuff. Cee-lo have a few jams on there. Q is just mining his past for something. Not sure what, but I prefer stuff like Juke Joint.

LOL – his music is quite depressing. The only thing I don’t like is how much he raps about drugs, otherwise I love his stuff!

@HD guess you never heard that akon’s song well.. ‘Strawbeery letter 23′ is the song onthe album.

The Cee Lo album is pretty awesome. “Bright Lights Bigger City” needs to be the follow up single in order to keep his momentum at pop going. And I know its a technicality but it appears Cee Lo no longer uses the hyphen in his name (Cee-Lo like this reporter uses) according to iTunes and album artwork.

  • Cee Lo, easily. I’ve been streaming it on NPR’s website this week and it’s pretty spectacular.

Certainly not the Quincy Jones album. I love the man, but I listened to some of the samples for the songs on this album and I wanted to vomit. The most notable atrocity is T-Pain taking a sledgehammer to P.Y.T. and turning it into an auto-tuned pile of dogsh!t. I’m surprised my ears didn’t start bleeding.

KiD CuDi all the way. A solid (if not quite as showy) record.

I just got Quincy Jones’ album because I love anything he does. I like that he rounded up all those artists like T-Pain, Akon, Jennifer Hudson, Jamie Foxx, Ludacris, Amy Winehouse and countless others. And Jermaine Dupri’s produced The Secret Garden! You know he’s going for a danceable groove to make it current. Lastly, it’s good to see Scott Storch back after a long absence (he had hits left and right during 2006!)and that he produced the Jennifer Hudson offering. Hope it lands on her own new album!
