Paramore confirms departure of guitarist, drummer

paramoreImage Credit: Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic.comThe Paramore family has just gotten smaller. In a blog post dated Dec. 18 on their official site, the Brand New Eyes band announced that guitarist Josh Farro and drummer Zac Farro will be leaving the group. “A couple of months ago, Josh and Zac let us know that they would be leaving the band after our show in Orlando last Sunday,” the post reads. “None of us were really shocked. For the last year it hasn’t seemed as if they wanted to be around anymore. We want Josh and Zac to do something that makes them happy and if that isn’t here with us, then we support them finding happiness elsewhere.”

Never fear, Paramore fans: The remaining members — including frontwoman Hayley Williams, bassist Jeremy Davis, and guitarist Taylor York — continue to be tight-knit, and have no intentions of breaking up anytime soon. “We never for a second thought about leaving any of this behind,” the post reads. “We really hope that you can be encouraged by the fact that the three of us who are still here are ready to take on another chapter of our journey together.”

The drummer was the best part of that band so it’s a big loss.

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Why did it always seem like Farros were never happy in photos?

I love the music and BBWMarriage was amazing

I can totally understand why they left. Paramore’s first album was great with a lot of rock and preformance pieces with heavy drums and guitar parts. Their latest album sucked, there were a lot of slow songs and a lot of the songs on the album (both fast and show) sounded the same. It seemed as though the because less of a band and more of the “haley show”.

i should say first hit album, i know they had lots of other albums before the one that had crushcrushcrush and misery business on it (sorry I can’t remember the name off the top of my head)

‘All We Know Is Falling’ was amazing, but so was ‘Riot!’. Personally, I thought ‘Brand New Eyes’ was a logical progression. A number of those songs, especially ‘Careful’ were amazing. I have to admit that I loathed ‘The Only Exception’, though.

Riot! was the one i couldn’t remember, and yes that album rocked, but I just couldn’t like Brand New Eyes even after I saw them live to promote this album (i bought the tickets before I had heard the album) I couldn’t get into it., and The Only Exception was exactly the song I was thinking of when I made my first comment.

If “The Only Exception” is the only song you can think of that was slowing down the album, then your opinion isn’t worth anything. That song has an amazing melody, it’s one that anyone can “sing along” to, and the lyrics are meaningful. Artists SHOULD have both up-tempo and slower selections on an album!! “When It Rains” was one of their best songs on Riot, everyone including other celebs loved it, of course they’d do another ballad.

Music is subjective, people. Not only that, but our perceptions of it can be colored by our experiences. I haven’t been in love yet, so “The Only Exception” sets my teeth on edge and feels sappy and repetitive. I have however, both experienced depression and had suicidal friends. Therefore, “When It Rains” strikes an emotional chord and is one of my favorites.

I disagree that their latest album sucked. As a 50 year old Paramore junkiw, I think their stuff rocks. Now, listen to the guy who lived through disco. Paramore is sweet rock n’roll. These two guys will be missed and Paramore may lose its mojo. The drummer is way good, just seeing him warm up before a show proved to me he had serious chops.

    • john

I was at Detroit shows too at 53 years old. Yep saw the drummer warm up also and you are right!

The direction the music has taken may not be challenging or artistic enough for them, or just not their style. If he’s a decent drummer I’m sure he’ll find another band or start a new one. For the dedication and sacrifice it takes to be in a major label band – lots of touring, time away from family, etc., I don’t blame them for leaving if their heart is no longer in it.

  • Brittany

This is really sad news!! The Farro brothers were the ones who started the band back in High School. I really hope this doesn’t mean the end of Paramore or their friendship with the remaining members.

  • UGH

Too bad. This will definitely turn into the Haley solo band now. Maybe not a bad thing if it’s handled right.
This makes me wonder…whatever happened to the No Doubt “reunion” record?

    • Flip

It’ll be out next year. Sign up for their official Facebook or Twitter because they’ve been updating non-stop about their recording process.

    • u

Oh, it’s DEFINITELY gonna be the Hayley Williams band now. Remember Evanescence and what happened after the guitarist left?

  • JackieB

This is really too bad. I loved their chemistry onstage. Personally I see Paramore getting into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame if they keep up the great albums and live shows. Maybe if they stay friendly with Josh and Zac, they can reunite (even if 5, 10 years down the road). I mean I know what everyone is thinking — how are they going to do better than this band!? They won’t, period.

    Chick Singer Syndrome.

I must say that I am dissapointed that they’ve decided to leave, but I’d rather them leave than have them be a part of something that they aren’t happy doing.
