Justin Bieber and Chris Brown to collaborate: Awkward?

bieber-brownImage Credit: Kevin Mazur/WireImage.com Does this make anyone else slightly uncomfortable? On Christmas, Chris Brown tweeted news of a collaboration with Justin Bieber: “ME and @justinbieber got a BANGER/SMASH record for all the fans out there at the top of the NEW YEAR!!! 2011 #BREEZYTAKEOVER,” he wrote. Bieber, for all intents and purposes, scooped him on Twitter in October, when he tweeted “kinda hyped rt now. for a new single teamed up with one of my friends and an artist I used to sing covers of on youtube. BIG RECORD. SMASH!!,” followed by a link to him covering Brown’s “With You” in 2008. On paper, this collaboration makes more sense than the Rascal Flatts duet Bieber also has planned, but I can’t be the only one who took a beat to think about Brown, who was convicted of assaulting his then girlfriend Rihanna, singing to Bieber’s young female fans. Will I dance to it? Yes. But they’re gonna have to market this one carefully. It can’t look like it’s better image rehab than Brown completing his court-ordered course on domestic violence, which he tweeted about four days earlier on Dec. 21. “I have enough self respect and decency to be proud of accomplishing this DV class.. Boyz run from there [sic] mistakes.. Men learn from them!!! thx,” he wrote. Too soon, or right on time?

What’s in it for JB? I’d rather hear him colaborate with Rihanna!!

  • marie j

yeah, I wouldn’t be surprised if JB hits his boyfriend in a couple years… just sayin’…

I love Kim and Justin together and BBWMarriage was amazing

  • The Other Guy

    Music FAIL

Chris Brown is decent enough but he’s a woman beater. Bieber, on the other hand…yeah

  • Karate Pants

It’s good that they’ve been introduced. Chris Brown can teach Biebs how to storm the aisles of Wal-Mart and rant that his album isn’t on display, a skill that lad Bieber will find useful in, oh, say, 16 minutes or so.

As interesting as it sounds, this will be so Autotuned to the 54th degree with the dance pop groove that you won’t hear both singers’ real voices.

Charlie Sheen and Tommy Lee had charges of abuses against them. Charlie has had several and got multiple chances. I think we can give Chris Brown, who was a teenager when this happened, at least one more chance.

What? Your statement is what’s wrong with people, and why guys think it’s OK to beat their women. Just because other people have been abusive, doesn’t mean it’s OK for Chris Brown, and we should give him a pass. He has time after time shown ZERO remorse for what he did. That’s a problem. Second chances are fine, but if he’s not going to admit to his wrong-doing and try to get the help he needs, then he doesn’t deserve it. (And, no, just doing what the court required him to doesn’t count.) We need to hold him accountable, and that’s easy to do, by not supporting his music, not buying it, not showing up to his concerts.

Seems like a brilliant move on Brown’s part. What better way to get the forgiveness of young ladies than duet w/ Beib?!

  • zania

Chris already have young ladies fans in the urban area. He had the 1# song on the R & B charts and check his twitter page most of his fans are young. But you most be talking about JB pop fans. This is as nicely I can put it (pop fans)

    • sally

Chris used to have all those JB pop fans too until he beat the crap out of Rihanna. It didn’t seem to bother Chris’s fans before then that he was considered a pop artist so why are you acting like it’s now a dirty word.

  • Branka

I’m guessing a remake of “Hit Me With Your Best Shot”?

    • Maureen

      Okay, okay… :/

  • zania

I am not making it like a dirty word. Its nice way of saying that the urban community has already moved on long time ago its the mainstream media who has a problem of giving Chris a second chance. So answer this why did the urban fans accepted him back but it took a long time for the pop fans to give him a second chance?

    • Amie

He doesn’t DESERVE a second chance until he owns up to what he did and gets help, which he hasn’t. The “urban fans” need to think again.

  • Matt

Oh, please. How much more transparent could a ploy to get his career back online be? Pathetic. And it shows how stupid Bieber is. The whole thing is gross.

  • Phil

Brown is STRUGGLING to have a pop hit, while still trying to stay ‘street’ at Urban with his singles titled “Deuces” and “No BS”..the problem is that as undeniably dance-y as “Yeah X3″ is, the other songs he is releasing are NOT accessible by pop programmers unable to look the other way with the whole beating of Rihanna stigma, especially when she is now a key artist for the mainstream top 40 format. This is why Chris is able to have Urban hits (I dunno, call it that most Urban communities can deal with or have experiences with abusive families, neighbors, etc.) but MOST pop programmers are aged white men who have been in the business for years, and as cutting edge as they think they are, they sometimes fall back on tried & true logic. In actuality Chris does need Justin more now than Justin needs a song with him (although to be fair, it will probably be JB’s first Urban hit, which he failed to achieve with either tracks with Jaden Smith or Ludacris). But lets also not forget how quick Chris was to put out there that he was going on tour with Usher, and that slot then went to Trey Songz…Chris knows he still ain’t ‘back’ & will say & do whatever he has to at this point to change an image, but honestly, as a 32 yr old white dude that has loved hip-hop since I’ve been 12…releasing songs titled “Deuces” and “No BS” acting like you just dont care what anyone thinsk, really isn’t going to accomplish that in a diminished record sales market. Just my opinion.

I think its about time for Chris Brown to be associated with something “more wholesome”. The guy has a lot of talent and he paid his dues, let’s hope the music world gives him another chance.

  • Jen

I’m just trying to figure out which one of them has more estrogen.

  • Chad

This is a brilliant move by the Chris Brown camp. He just finished his court ordered classes and completed all of his community service. He served his time. He’s by far one of the most talented R&B entertainers of our time. Give him another chance! Take the example of Michael Vick, who killed innocent dogs and made them fight one another. Then look at Chris Brown who made a mistake and also served his time. If one fallen star can be welcomed back to achieve success, why not another?
