DJ Earworm mashes up hits from Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Usher, and more for 2010's 'United State of Pop'

‘Tis the season of the year-end recap, and DJ Earworm has a pop-packed gift for everyone. Yesterday he released his annual “United State of Pop” mashup, featuring Billboard‘s 25 most popular songs of the year. True to 2010, there’s a heavy serving of Katy Perry, Usher, Ke$ha, Taio Cruz, and Lady Gaga, with some Eminem and Rihanna sprinkled in as well. Its partnering video also blends the year’s pop treats into one big montage of a club-hopping lovefest. Check it out for yourself after the jump.

Looking back, are you happy with the hits 2010 had to offer? Which of these songs do you think you’ll be singing for years to come? Let us know in the comments section.

Not as good as 2009 but that’s to be expected since all the songs were so different this year…I still downloaded it asap!

    • LOL

I’m waiting for DJ Roomba’s version.

        lol. good one.

2009 was freaking golden. nothing will top that.
i was a tad disappointed too. soo much gaga and he hardly did anything with it. not to say this isn’t good, or impressive, just not up to par on last years.

i prefered previous year’s mashups by dj Earworm…. but I love having a little time capsule of music available to me in the future. to look back and reminisce in the years ahead. all great songs

I can take small doses of katy Perry but that Firework song is truly nauseating to me. Such tried and true lyrics (basically follow your dream..havent heard that one 1000 times in the last few years) and the tune is particularly annoying beyond belief (and that boom boom part sucks even more)..I realize this is just one mans opinion.

I’m not a fan of the song either but if you actually listened to the lyrics you’d realize the song is more about picking yourself up and believing in yourself even when you feel the most worthless. Its not exactly a more unique message but its far from “follow your dream”

This is really disappointing, but not because of DJ Earworm’s work. Pop music just was not very good this year. It’s become dumbed down and more manufactured than ever before, mainly thanks to artists like the Black Eyed Peas (for the record, I hated “Boom Boom Pow” and “I Gotta Feeling” but “United State of Pop 2009 – Blame It On the Pop” was my favorite DJ Earworm mashup).

The same four or five artists are responsible for half of the songs in the top 25, similar to the 2007 mashup when T-Pain and Akon dominated the charts.

When I think of 2010, no pop song comes to my mind more than “Empire State of Mind.” It was a truly distinctive track that I wish would have been represented more in the new mashup. Would have liked to see more “Bad Romance” as well. Here’s hoping 2011 provides DJ Earworm with some better material with which to work!

the 2007 mashup always reminds me that music was “ghetto” then because thats what the mashup is.

I think he should have used more Bad Romance too. To me the biggest problem was he used too much Tik Tok, which is a good pop song that several other people have completely ripped off this year so it served as a good background song for this, but it still took up way too much of this years mix.

  • Kris

I actually really liked it. I’m a big fan of his work and I look forward to his mash-ups every year.

I think that Lady Gaga had a huge influence on the pop hits of 2010–Katy Perry, Rihanna, Kesha, even Usher and Taio Cruz and Enrique Iglesias. I heard Eminem in the mix. It’s like Katy, Rihanna, Usher and Kesha are singing together in the studio while the DJ is playing I heard the Bruno Mars-led or written songs. But where’s Jason Derulo? He had a lot of hits too the same time as Kesha. Maybe he couldn’t get everybody. But fun music mix to cover the year. The DJ did an awesome job covering that in 5 minutes! He needs to put that on a physical CD.

I have to say this–the Dr Luke and Max Martin produced hits for Katy Perry, Kesha, Usher, Pink and several other artists in 2010 were all solid! They really dominated the charts. And I have loved Max Martin’s hits since Britney Spears, Backstreet and NSYNC a decade ago. He’s always thinking edgy and I liked his songs for Katy’s album. And Martin and Luke doing Usher’s with DJ’s got US fallin in Love! Hot pairing! It was a common theme with their string of hits in this DJ mashup song.

  • Applesauce

yeah not as good as 2009 but than again that one was just amazing. still pretty creative, i like the way he incorporated need you now.

  • Rob

ok whats the difference exactly between “follow your dream” and “pick yourself up and (keep following) your dream”? To me its the same cloying annoying message that we have heard a million times in the past. The public laps it up like milk every time

  • anya

Last years was definitely better, but this one is still good. Especially liked the part with all the songs saying “hands up”. I didn’t even notice how many songs said that this year.

Everytime Dr.Luke has to fill a lyric its always “put your hands up”..even when it makes no sense..for example..California does the line in there “now put your hands up” have to do with the song even remotely? Who exactly is supposed to “put your hands up” in that song???
But Dr.Luke needed to fill in something..the songwriters who have made it big in the biz can basically do stuff like that whenever they want..

  • Dana

to much Keesha not enough Gaga

    • nevin

not by any means a gaga stan.
      but she WAS 2010. cmmon.

  • steve

At 1st listen I thought it was good…not as good as the last 2 years….a little choppy. However the more I listen, the better it gets…and the mixing of the videos….WOW….he is amazing….love how he goes from Ke$ha “got no monney in my pocket” to “I wanna be a billionaire”….absolutely amazing!!!!

  • KarLee Raymond

Yes all Usher all day because I love Usher when he brought OMG and Dj got us fallin in love out that was it because I am a big of Usher TeamUsher all the way and even Lady Gaga and Katy Perry’s Fireworks I love that song and also Taio Cruz Break Your Heart I love that song also and back to Usher he is also going to work the radio stations thats why he is the KING OF R&B I Love Him USHER FOREVER IS THE KING OF R&B DON’T CARE WHAT NOBODY SAYS HATERS STEP BACK

  • AJ

i agree. too much tik tok.
i mean, gaga once again ‘rules’ 2010. but i only see ‘tiny piece’ of her voice here. only “bad romance” “gonna play” and other un-noticable voice if we play it w/o the video.
