Tom Hanks' son 'Chet Haze' debuts 'White and Purple' rap song: is he any good?

Tom Hanks’ son Chester has already begun to follow in his dad’s footsteps with small roles in movies like Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and as Gawker dutifully pointed out, Bratz: The Movie. Now a student at Northwestern University, he’s throwing his hat into the world of rap music. As rhymer Chet Haze, he recently put his spin on Wiz Khalifa’s hit “Black and Yellow” to shout out the Chicago-area university’s colors. The result is “White and Purple (Northwestern Remix),” a campus banger sure to have the kids going nuts at the next keg party.

Check out the song after the jump.

Haze lets us know that it’s always work before play. “White kicks/Purple kush/This is college/Hittin’ blunts after hitting books,” he spits. Students, take heed. He continues to rap about, you know, undergrad guy musings: stealing girls from their slacker boyfriends, haters, taking straight shots, and graduating.

It’s a fun record, though I’m concerned about how the university’s administration will handle it. Now that it’s getting some buzz, surely they’ll be uptight about one of their students so confidently rapping about smoking weed and trying to deflower freshmen girls. But his classmates are going to love him for this record.

What do you think of the song? Do you think Chet will get punished by Northwestern’s administration?

Sounds as good any other rapper on top 40 radio. Don’t know if that’s good or bad.

    That’s Tom Hanks son???!?!?!!?!?

  • Really?

As a Northwestern student, all I’m saying is that this is NOT the type of thing that will make students love him…

    • Yeah…

As another Northwestern student, I’d say–there’ll be a certain very vocal contingent that lauds him for presenting this image of Northwestern, and the rest of us, those who are here precisely because we think college is *not* primarily about smoking weed and deflowering freshmen, will roll our eyes at each other and go on with our lives, with the occasional mockery and whining about obnoxious people like him.

But really it doesn’t matter that much what he says. Anyone who actually pays attention to Northwestern student life will understand that Northwestern is a great place to be precisely because you can live your life at whichever points on the spectra of involvement in classes, activities, partying, etc. you choose, and there’ll be great people to live that life with.

As a fellow NU student, I agree-except among his Lodge/PIKE frat bros.

      • Boog

Please, get your fra(c)ts straight. Chet Hanks is in Sig ep.

      • Really?

@Boog … Not to turn this into a College ACB post, but Chet Hanks is definitely not in Sig ep… He’s in Pike, and has been for the past year.

      • Lil Lainey

@Boog … ditto what Really? said… my boyfriend’s in Pike at NU and so is Chet Hanks.

  • Shaolin Shadowboxer

Just another poor excuse for a rap song. Tom Hanks should be proud.

    i love it!

  • yooo

HATAS GON HATE CHET DO YO THANG

    • me

Nut-rider.. smh. If you ride his nuts you wont get anything for it. You know how many people have remade this song. At least he could’ve had the decency to make it sound good. I thought northwestern was a college full of well educated kids, thought wrong…

  • NUstudent

As an NU student, I can say “But his classmates are going to love him for this record.” couldn’t be farther from the truth. Everyone I know mocks it already and gives them all a further reason to make fun of him.

this is a parody of ‘black and yellow’ by wiz khalifa. i don’t think it’s meant to be taken seriously.

    • me

if it wasnt meant to be taken seriously, there would have been humor in the lyrics. He was actually trying, and he failed..Big time. maybe if he spent as much time rappin,as he did studying, people would actually appreciate him. He should do like his other brother and try acting, cuz rappin aint cuttin it

  • severine

Bad. He looks kinda hot though.

  • Derek

    *** I GO TO NORTHWESTERN ***

I CAN VOUCH THAT EVERYONE HATES HIM.

This song is so bad… we go to a highly selective private school.

    SHUT UP CHET HANKS!

  • hahah

what a joke… literally everyone is remixing this song right now, and this is one of the worst ones i’ve heard. he’s an awful rapper with enough money to spend on software to make everything except the lyrics and the actual rapping sound good.

and as a northwestern student i promise you we’re all embarassed…not because we don’t smoke weed (we do) and only study but because this absolute joke of a single makes us all look dumber than rocks

  • cory jewell

I think you all are being hard on him, the song (for being rap) isn’t that bad. no one complains about emenem making detroit look bad, it’s all just fun. you go boy! have fun

    • me

LMAO, really. Your saying this is good, then comparing him to eminem, saying eminem makes detroit look bad…lol another.. nut-rider
