Jennifer Lopez's new single 'On the Floor' leaks and it's kinda lame

It’s a big week for Jennifer Lopez: Not only is American Idol premiering on Wednesday but Jenny from the Block is also debuting a new song. Unfortunately, the track, “On the Floor,” is hardly a masterpiece (I will admit it’s better her previous comeback attempts, “Loubotins” and “Fresh Out the Oven”). With a lengthy intro by rapper Pitbull, Lopez attempts to prove she can still create a hot dance track but this ain’t “Waiting for Tonight.” It’s more like “Waiting for This to Get Good.” I just don’t buy a 40-year-old mom clubbing in Ibiza. Also, Lopez includes dated references of how “ill” the club is as well as the wedding DJ classic, “Raise the roof!” She might as well have added in a “Gettin’ jiggy with it!” for good measure. And yet here’s the sad truth: If I hear this song in a gay bar, I’ll probably love it and sing along.

Listen to the J. Lo track below…

What do you think Music Mix-ers? Does it make you wanna get “On the Floor?” Or do you just feel like taking a nap?

I think it is her best attempt since 2002 tbh..

    • oh ya

Seriously much better than her other music. Very fun and creative song and her voice was nice and sweet sounding.

      • ashley

dance to dis song all day

    • Michael

Yeah, I don’t think it’s bad. It’s definitely danceable. But the Pitbull parts should have been kept at a minimum and/or altogether absent.

    • anthony

      i agree josie

      • Fortune

I think its more than dancable im in love wth dz album…

  • whatevs

I doubt she can strike gold the way Enrique miraculously did with his current songs, but you gotta give it up for excellent PR.

    • SXiPPY

Also leaked was a video clip of her new song/video “Good Hit” of her as a headmistress of a school of sluts(?) where she is continuously blowing her hair with a hair drying while teaching classes in “Fiercity”, all while wearing cheetah print stockings and glasses. While most of her “new” album already leaked, the video looks like a nice return to fun in a very campy way.

  • ES

ehh, its not bad. the beat is catchy so ill probably grow to love it.

    • lol

everything sounds better half wasted in a club.

  • Vince

    What a terrible, terrible song.
Poor girl things she’ll be back on top with this stupid song. Sorry J-low, the people have spoken. Your last film BOMBED because no one wanted to see you in a film. Your record label dropped you because your albums have NOT been selling.
J-Low should be on her knees PRAYING EVERY SINGLE DAY that she got a gig on American Idol. Otherwise, we wouldn’t even be hearing anything about her. No film studio wants to touch her because no one sees her films. No record label wants her anymore because she is not relevant to the music scene.
I give the AI gig one season. After that, it will be cancelled.
Sorry J-Low, the world has moved on without you.

    • B

Her last film made back more than double its budget. I’m pretty sure that is not considered a bomb. $75 million gross, sure it’s underwhelming, but it’s not a bomb.

    • deegeezee

      um, valium.
seriously, are you an ex-boyfriend? or did she eat your first-born child? ’cause the vehemence of your hatred makes you sound cray-zay.

    • Roger

Way off man! Your “opinion” is definitely your “opinion” and you don’t speak for the people…it’s a freaking dance track! Most artists who write dance tracks write them with the club in mind! No one would expect a Grammy nomination, unless it’s in the dance category. Also, you definitely haven’t checked your facts on her movie status…you obviously don’t like JLO! Just say so, and stop trying to convince people to feel the same with your convoluted statements.

      • RS

I agree with deegeezee.. she’s way to old now.. She should let her hubby do the singing. And she should stick to what she knows best …her fashion style.

    • Kelli

      Speak for yourself!

  • teatroborikua

Another dance ditty with some quasi-hip-hoppish flourishes and the rapero dujour adding some verses. J-lo, give it up.

  • markinnyc

She is too old to be out “on the floor”. Unless she is talking about toys her kids leave out on the floor.
She needs to mature her songs and sing about something else besides clubs.

a comment so nice, she posted it twice!

      • @lefty

With two different names, no less! Vince and Veronica apparently think exactly alike!

      • jili

Why is everyone talking about her age, look at her she looks stunning? WHat about Madonna? She 50 some years old and still doing her thing, so dont be fast to judge

      • jili

ohh, and this person that commented twice, get a life

      • lahny

yeah vince/veronica, whoever you are.. get a life.. pucker up!!!

    • Roger

Too old! You wish you could look as good at her age! She has flawless skin! She’s never looked hotter! Some people look better with age, and shes one of them!

    • jujubeans

sorry to burst ur bubble, but Jlo is HOT.

  • Brett

I agree that she needs a new message. She’s 40. She looks good, but I don’t think a mom of 40 belongs in a club. I have the same issue with Madonna. There just comes a time… Too bad the song sucks too – I doubt she will have a real “comeback”.

    • Allison

I think there are 40-year-old moms who, every now and then get a girls night out and might appreciate having a song to dance to from someone closer to their age.

    • Miguel

Yeah BUT Madonna still makes good catchy songs and when she performs them @ her tours, she is a fierce!

  • jason

dont like it at all…jlo is so overrated. not really looking forward to her on ai either…but i dont see why pple like this song.

  • jpratm

shes trying way to hard- enough with the rapsung thing- your killing me jennifer

  • B-

Lame background checking EW. Her new single is not “On The Floor”, that is a leaked unfinished demo. Her first official single off the revamped album “Love?” is called “Good Hit” and it was produced by The-Dream and Tricky Stewart. A snippet of the video where J.Lo is teaching girls to be sexy went viral over the weekend.

Also “Ill” is still a widely used slang term in NYC.

  • Abe Froman

    Can you say “overrated?”

  • Well…

Calling bull on not being able to hit a club at 40. She’s 40 not 60. Furthermore, the women of “Sex and the City” were always out and about at every trendy nightspot in NYC and last I checked they weren’t in their 20’s. This idea that the fun stuff in life ends at 35 is bull. I know many people who still go out and enjoy themselves and are not pathetic about it either. Don’t be mad that at 40 her body is still looking good and her face still looks wrinkle free. If Jennifer, Janet, and Madonna want to still go clubbing and turn up the music to go crazy, let em’ they still look good. Bunch of silly ageist folks in these comments sections. I hope when you all get to be 40 you still look good and have the personal and career successes this woman has achieved.

    • Caryn

Agree! People in their forties like to have fun, too. It’s not like she’s leaving the kids in the car while she hits the club.

    • Katja

I have to agree, to an extent. I’m not sure I like the idea of a 40-year-old mother going out clubbing every weekend, for example (though I don’t actually like the idea of ANYONE going out clubbing every weekend)…but I think it’s actually great if 40-year-old moms went out and partied occasionally. Everyone needs to let loose a little sometimes, and there’s no reason mothers need to stay home all the time, or only meet their friends for lunch during the week, or whatever. If a woman of any age wants to go out to drink and dance at clubs, then she should!

      • Katja

Oh, and as far as the article topic goes…this song is kind of dumb, but it’s a THOUSAND times better than that godawful Loubotins thing.

      • jiki

What are you talking about? Are you serious? did u even listen to this song? It has nothing to do with HER going out and partying every night. It is just an upbeat song, dance song, it is just a SONG, you go rambling about mom’s going out and clubbing, OMG read your stuff before u publish it

    • Roger

      AMEN!!!!!!

  • Eloy

well, to be honest…I like the track as a dance record. but in the other hand it’s pretty average and the song would have been sang by any european faceless singer.
though I listened to the song a lot in the last days to work out I agree with the blogger, the song is way too gay, actually I was surprised how gay it sounds. to be a supposed mainstream US single….

    • Roger

Can you please tell me what “gay” sounds like? If you can describe a musical note that sounds gay, then your the most intuitive human being on the planet.

  • Maxriah

Are you ppl kidding me? She’s 40 and it’s 2011! It’s OK to say things like she does in the song. I would expect a review with MUCH more respect from an Entertainment Weekly writer. This is a really good song and it’s far better than some of the music out now. Are we forgetting Britney Spears’ waist of a track that she just released? As IF she doesn’t know how she is smh. For goodness sakes, the woman calls herself a “Classic” in her song “Good Hit”.

    • Maxriah

      waste*

  • D2

How embarassed should I be that i think this song is pretty great…

    • D3

I think it´s kinda great as well…looking forward to working out on this!
