Kanye West denies dissing Britney Spears on Twitter: 'Enough already!'

Kanye-West-Britney-SpearsImage Credit: Chris Hatcher/PR Photos; Albert L. Ortega/PR PhotosLast Friday, Kanye West made a joke on Twitter. It went like this: “Yo Britney, I’m really happy for you and I’mma let you be #1, but me and Jay-Z single is one of the best songs of all time! LOL.” Get it? Britney Spears‘ new single “Hold It Against Me” had just beaten his and Jay-Z’s “H.A.M.” for the No. 1 spot on iTunes’ download chart, so West referred back to the words he infamously uttered to Taylor Swift at the VMAs in September 2009.

This context, plus the “LOL” at the end of the since deleted tweet, made it pretty obvious that he was just kidding around. But some people somehow convinced themselves that he meant to launch actual verbal hostilities against Spears. Egads! West had no choice but to return to Twitter yesterday evening to clarify his intentions. READ FULL STORY »

Britney Spears' 'Hold It Against Me' headed for No. 1 debut on Billboard's Hot 100

Filed under: Britney Spears, Music and tagged: ,

Britney-SpearsImage Credit: Kevin Mazur/WireImage.comBillboard is projecting that Britney Spears‘ new single, “Hold It Against Me,” will likely become the 18th song to debut at No. 1 since their Hot 100 chart began keeping track in 1958. As we reported last week, “Against Me” has been getting a lot of love at radio and was immediately thrown into rotation at huge stations when it was released last Monday. It also shot up to the top spot on iTunes’ singles chart quickly.

I didn’t exactly give it the best review after I first heard it. But with a No. 1 debut imminent, the people have obviously spoken. What is it about this song you love so much, Britney fans? Do you expect “Against Me” to be No. 1 when the singles chart is released this Thursday? Let us know in the comments section.

Is Dire Straits' 'Money for Nothing' homophobic?

mark-knopflerImage Credit: Graham Wiltshire/RedfernsBritish rockers Dire Straits are not among rock’s natural controversy magnets. But a brouhaha has erupted in the past few days over their 1985 track “Money For Nothing,” which private broadcasters in Canada are no longer allowed to play because it features the word “faggot.”

Jennifer Lopez's new single 'On the Floor' leaks and it's kinda lame

Filed under: Music, TV and tagged: , , , ,

It’s a big week for Jennifer Lopez: Not only is American Idol premiering on Wednesday but Jenny from the Block is also debuting a new song. Unfortunately, the track, “On the Floor,” is hardly a masterpiece (I will admit it’s better her previous comeback attempts, “Loubotins” and “Fresh Out the Oven”). With a lengthy intro by rapper Pitbull, Lopez attempts to prove she can still create a hot dance track but this ain’t “Waiting for Tonight.” It’s more like “Waiting for This to Get Good.” I just don’t buy a 40-year-old mom clubbing in Ibiza. Also, Lopez includes dated references of how “ill” the club is as well as the wedding DJ classic, “Raise the roof!” She might as well have added in a “Gettin’ jiggy with it!” for good measure. And yet here’s the sad truth: If I hear this song in a gay bar, I’ll probably love it and sing along.

Slash talks about his tour with Ozzy, the search for Velvet Revolver's singer, and Axl's latest accolade

Filed under: Music and tagged: , , ,

slashImage Credit: Paul BrownBreak out the top hats and Les Pauls: Slash kicks off a tour with Ozzy Osbourne on Jan. 16 in Omaha, Neb., in support of his 2010 solo album, Slash. Before he hit the road, the Velvet Revolver guitarist and ex-Guns N’ Roses axeman riffed on a variety of music topics with EW.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: What can fans expect from the set list this time around? It sounds like you’ve been playing a wide swath of material from your career.
SLASH:
The tour started last March and we took a break, and now we’re starting up again. We’ve been doing a lot of songs off this new record, some Guns stuff, some Velvet stuff and a couple Snake Pit songs. And it’s really cool when we’re doing a headlining set [Slash will perform on his own in some cities] because we really f—ing dig in there and pull out these cool gems. But for the Ozzy tour, it’ll be combinations of those things. It’s a 50-minute set, so it won’t be a lot of either. But at the same time it’s going to be a really cool, very entertaining, dynamic 50 minutes.

Any surprises you can tease?
There are a couple songs that I broke out for this next leg which we haven’t played on the whole tour, so there will be a couple surprises if you went to any of the other shows. If you’ve never been to a show, the whole thing’s a surprise. But give you hints? No.

Will you play with Ozzy? READ FULL STORY »

Christina Aguilera to perform the National Anthem at Super Bowl XLV: How will she do?

Filed under: TV and tagged: , ,

christina-aguileraImage Credit: Michael Tran/FilmMagic.comThe National Football League hasn’t announced it yet, but a source close to Christina Aguilera confirms to EW that the singer will belt out the “The Star-Spangled Banner” at Super Bowl XLV in Arlington, Texas on Feb. 6. Hit Fix was first to drop the news. Excited? You should be.

Singing the National Anthem at the NFL’s championship game is no small feat. Only the best and brightest get a chance to shine on that field. Icons like Whitney Houston, whose 1991 showing at Super Bowl XXV in Tampa, Fla. has (arguably) yet to be rivaled, and Beyoncé Knowles have set the bar high. Recently we’ve loved how the NFL’s picks have done. Jennifer Hudson and her powerhouse soul vocals were excellent in 2009. While fellow American Idol alum Carrie Underwood and her traditional performance fared just as well in 2010.

Beatles sales on iTunes hit new milestone

Tagged:

The-BeatlesmoneyImage Credit: Apple Corps. Ltd. EMIAll you need is love, kids. Also, a credit card, and wi-fi. And bam! you’ve got yourself one of iTunes’ greatest hits to date: The Beatles catalog.

Since the four unknown Liverpudlians finally arrived on iTunes last November 16, sales have been (shocker!) swift—two million songs and 450,000 albums (13 are available via the site) in the first week alone. And now, iTunes reps tell EW, they have hit new marks: 5 million and one million, respectively.

The top song, George loyalists will be happy to learn, remains the same: “Here Comes the Sun.” As does the top album, Abbey Road. Clearly, the catalog’s momentum has slowed since its initial bow two months ago; still, these are not-exactly-shabby numbers for music originally released over 40 years ago, and long available physically at any mall, record store, or swap meet in the land.

What do you think, readers—will sales stay fab? And are those who click picking the Beatles’ best?

Hear a new song from 'How to Make it in America' stars Bryan Greenberg and Kid Cudi -- EXCLUSIVE

Filed under: Music, TV and tagged: , , ,

bryan-greenbergWhen Bryan Greenberg isn’t on set as Ben in HBO’s drama How to Make it in America, he moonlights as a musician. In 2007 he released the alt-rock album Waiting For Now. Before he begins filming for the show’s second season in March, he drops Now‘s follow-up, We Don’t Have Forever, on Jan. 18. “Walk Away,” the set’s first single, is a breakup song. Frustrated with how a relationship is going and tired of working at it, he sends his girl packing.

Today he debuts a Kid Cudi-assisted cut from Forever, “You Can Run,” exclusively on EW.com. It’s a spiteful jam. “You hear me on the radio/Coming through so clear in stereo/And you know that there’s nowhere you can go… from my love,” he sings to an ex. “You tried to forget about me/But I told you to never doubt me/How’s your life right now without me?”

After the jump, check out the song and find out who Greenberg says inspired it.
