“Hold It Against Me,” Britney Spears’ new single, annihilated the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in its debut week. Today she revealed the set’s name and cover art on Twitter. And the title is…Femme Fatale. Hmm. Leading up to the announcement, she talked about the effort she’s put into the project. “I’ve poured my heart and soul into this album over the last 2 years. I’ve put everything I have into it,” she wrote. “This album is for you, my fans, who have always supported me and have stuck by me every step of the way! I love you all!”
Find out what kind of album Fatale will be from Britney after the jump.
Britney describes Fatale as “Sexy and Strong,” “Dangerous yet mysterious,” and “Cool yet confident!” The album is expected out March 15. So here comes the big question: Are you anxious for it? And what do you think of the cover art? See how they snuck the 7 in under Fatale‘s F? Nifty! Let us know what you think in the comments below.

She probably doesn’t even know what Femme Fatale means, let alone what the term is associated with in history/culture.
I agree – that photo doesn’t at all look like a “Femme Fatale”. Sorry, but with her supposed success you’d think they could have at least washed her hair or had someone style it.
you lost all credibility with “supposed success”.
Yeah, her hair does look super greasy and gross. She looks more like a coked-out Courtney Love than she does a Femme Fatale along the lines of, say, Joan Crawford or Barbara Stanwyk. I think the promo posters for her “Onyx Hotel Tour” generate more of what a “femme fatale” should look like. Who is this girl’s stylist!? And to be honest, you have vocally impaired artists like Rihanna, who like Britney, suck at singing live (yet unlike Britney at least makes an adamant attempt at it) that change their image with each album and give reason for the adoring public to say “gimme more”. I really don’t feel like Britney has that allure anymore. I loved her at her craziest, but now I feel like all the teasing games – the album cover, the date the video is going to premiere, the tracklist, etc.; give the world something “stronger” to show them you are someone worth remaining relevant.
Well, she lost all credibility when she lost her mind.
I wish she would let a professional do her hair.
The cover looks very similar to what was on her single, right?
Also, “Hold It Against Me” might have debuted at #1, but that is partially because of radio play (which is the result of record company dealings). It has fallen off the Top 5 in downloads and sales. “Firework” by Katy Perry and “Grenade” by Bruno Mars have remained much more popular for weeks and weeks. Her songs do well right away, but like her cds, they sink VERY quickly.
I didn’t hear Hold it Against Me in the music lineup on my local radio stations until last week. They were still playing Bruno and Katy and Kesha’s songs. Maybe they were waiting until the radio play cooled down on those hits before they finally played Britney.
That’s the norm these days for new singles by established artists: they get very high debuts because the hardcore fans all buy the single right away, but they need to get fan-generated airplay to avoid fading quickly. In the case of Hold It Against Me, it’s already slipped a lot because after the initial excitement, people are realizing “Wow, this really isn’t very good”…just like everything Britney has ever done other than Toxic and maybe Womanizer.
I see in the BBC charts the song didn’t even make it to #1 and it’s already falling. Kesha was #1 this week. Pretty sad when even Kesha beats Britney. I also see where Britney’s manager tweeted she is not performing on the grammy’s as has been rumored. Not surprised. Grammy’s don’t usually allow lipsynching.
Hold It Against Me has already sold 900,000 copies as of friday 4th february, none of the other songs mentioned have sold that am=mount yet and they have been around for a lot longer and have been promoted and have videos etc so can be put on MTV 2 etc…..Wait!!!!!!!
sounds dull, looks dull. I’m sure they’ll be some catchy songs, though.
Slaying left and right. I love that they put the 7 on the cover. The title is only right considering she truly has no competition whatsoever and despite everything that has transpired over the past few years, she’s still the biggest pop star in the world. No one sell as much by doing so little. Only Britney, y’all!
You’re really bragging that she does so little? Usually you find people praising hard work, not laziness.
Britney is not the biggest pop star in the world, that is currently Beyonce. Put Beyonce and Britney on a stage together and you best believe that Britney would become invisible.
Beyonce? LOL!!!!!
Lady GaGa is bigger than Beyonce. Bey is about equal with Rihanna. Britney and GaGa are #1.
Britney at her peak would destroy every single female performer including Beyonce’s overrated and overhyped ass.
nope, Beyonce tops BOTH Britney and Gaga now and at at their peaks. Beyonce has more natural stage presence and performance skills than Britney and Gaga. Beyonce doesn’t need to rely on autotune, crazy costumes, or a fleet of dancers to be great on stage. She would kill it with just her voice acappella and one microphone. Like I said, put Beyonce and Britney on a stage together and Britney would become invisible.
How exactly would Britney “destroy” anyone?? By lip-synching?? Your comment is laughable.
Beyonce is a one-trick pony with a nice voice. All that stomping and booty shaking does not qualify her as a skilled dancer. All of her performances look exactly the same: big hair, short skirt with heels, same booty gyrating dance moves and a wind machine. Britney, especially when she was a bit younger, is a creative and dynamic performer. You never know what she’s gonna do when she hits the stage. So many of her tv performances are considered legendary. Bey has put on several note-worthy performances but not one of them is truly considered legendary by anyone other than her fans.
Beyonce is hands down a better performer than Britney. What exactly qualifies any Britney performance as “legendary”?? Her lip synching or oversexed gyrating? Hyperbole at best. Look at Bey’s performance of Halo at Hope for Haiti. Brit could NEVER do anything like that. NEVER. Brit has to rely on sex and tricks to perform, and her dancing now is nowhere where it used to be. Beyonce relies on her pitch perfect voice.
compare Bey’s performance with Prince at the Grammys to Brit’s performance w/ MJ at his 20th anniversary MSG concert. Beyonce was at Prince’s level the whole time, Britney’s voice was a whisper when performing with MJ. Britney did not keep up w/ MJ at all. She was embarrassing to watch.
What makes any Britney performance legendary? How about the fact that people remember, talk about and emulate her performances for years after? Even Bey jacked her AMA performance!! I actually did not like Britney’s performance with MJ that much, but at least I remember it unlike those two Bey performances you mentioned. Almost eveything Bey does is pretty good, but almost everything she does is completely forgettable.
Oh “Classy” give it up! The only thing Britney’s performances are “legendary” for the fact that she’s not singing. And yeah, people do talk about them after they are over – and ALL they talk about is how she wasn’t singing and was lip syncing. So just keep telling your deluded self that she has more talent than Beyonce (who writes her own songs and ACTUALLY SINGS them) or Lady GaGa (who writes and sings and plays instruments). When it comes to dancing, yes, she does. But when it comes to singing, sorry, but Britney has as much credibility as Ashley Simpson, which is to say NONE.
@ Aunt Sassy
You’re the deluded one because I never mentioned singing talent. Before you imply that my opinion is ridiculous maybe you should read carefully what I’m saying. I said Britney is a better performer, not singer. And yes her performances are legendary and no not for lip syncing (though that is talked about) but for being a show-stopping, titillating and creative performer. And Beyonce doesn’t write much of her own material, in fact more than one person has threatened to sue her for stealing their song.
There is nothing legendary about any Britney performance (which btw are largely copied from Janet Jackson’s playbook). You confuse people talking about Britney performances where she’s barely clothed with “legendary” performances. The most well known Brit performances I can recall is the one where she wore nude material and lip-synched “Oops” which Chris Rock made a strip club joke about immediately after, the one where she danced lathered in oil with a snake and the one where she lazily moved around the stage in a daze with horrible extensions while lip-synching Gimme More. None of these performances are legendary.
and of course you would remember every Brit performance and strangely claim many are “legendary” and then say everything Bey does is forgettable because you are a myopic Britney fanatic. You’re not looking at anything objectively.
Your prejudice is showing. It doesn’t matter if Britney was “barely clothed”. That’s so far beyond the point that it’s laughable. Besides the fact that all Beyonce wears in a perfirmance is a shift bra and a loin cloth, lol. The fact that you can recall in some amount of detail, as a non Britney fan, her performances from 7-10 years ago is proof of her legend/icon status. Because I darn sure cannot recall, with the same accuracy, ANY Beyonce performance. Tho I’m sure any of her performances involve a big weave, her shaking her massive backside and a wind machine-no?? Lol!!!!!!!
Besides, like I said, Beyonce totally copied Britney’s 2003(?) AMA performance (this is not just my opinion-it’s ALL over the web). However, I’ve never seen Britney copy a single thing Bey has done. I doubt she’s given Bey the slightest glance throughout her whole career, though she did let Destiny’s Child open for her some years ago. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Britney has sold more in the past ten years than Beyonce and will in the next ten!
you can’t recall performances other than Britney’s because you’re another narrow-minded Britney fan. And the sad thing is that you seem to be proud of your ignorance. And Britney has copied many things Janet has done, from her concerts to her video (Stronger is a retread of The Pleasure Principle). And I can recall performances of many performers, not just Britney because I understand pop culture. I can sit here and recall details of various Alicia, Pink, MJ, Usher performances. Just because you have selective memory doesn’t mean I do. Btw, Brit would be incapable of copying any Beyonce performance as that would require the vocal skill and non-dazed effort that she does not possess.
Oh please. I can recall the performances of many artists. Just bc I think Britney is a better performer than Beyonce doesn’t mean I don’t pay attention to other artists. What a ridiculous conclusion. I think Beyonce is a good performer who exudes confidence and sexiness, but all her routines look the same to me while Britney’s are always exciting and creative. About Janet, I agree that Britney and pretty much every young pop artist has drawn inspiration from her as they well should. It’s one thing to copy snippets from a pop legend from another generation, it’s tacky and desperate to copy one of your peer’s stage show. And as far as Britney’s ability to copy Beyonce, I agree Bey is a more adept singer. However, I think Britney could pull off singing with that echo effect Bey uses and gyrate around in heels and a short skirt or leotard. In fact, she’s done that kind of performance before, she just doesn’t do it EVERY. It gets old. Plus they both covered Alanis’ song in their last tours and Britney’s performance was better bc she rocked it out and she sang live and sounded great.
so I guess we’ll agree to disagree. I think Beyonce is a better performer than Britney and you think the opposite.
Fair enough.
Flawless and Perfect. Amazing title and cover pic! Can’t wait!!!!
No, not excited! I bet it’s the same Britney sound we’ve heard since her debut. She hasn’t grown up musically and that’s sad because she has so many fans. Give ‘em something new Britney!
Um, have you Blackout? It has become the blueprint of almost every pop album for the last few years … even for Gaga.
no it hasn’t.
I love Lady Gaga, and I’m sure you’re a fan, but that is an ignorant statement. “…Baby One More Time” and “Oops…” were similar sounding albums, but Britney had a very hip-hop crossed with pop feel on various tracks, and “In the Zone” was a complete departure that incorporated urban trends heavily. “Blackout” was a defining album with beat-heavy techno-pop mixed with some hip-hop on a few tracks, and “Circus” ditched hip-hop and urban touches entirely for various shades of pop such as techno-heavy (Womanizer), 80′s (Mm Papi), and straight up dance pop (If U Seek Amy). Britney is a trendsetter, and with Christina’s flailing “Bionic” album (though I personally enjoyed it), we see there was only ever one queen after Madonna: Miss Britney Spears.
Her albums all are different to me music and soundwise. The first two albums were more similar teen pop songs with catchy hooks, Britney, her 3rd sounded like ’80s rock on the second half with the urban-hip hop meets pop sounds on the first. The In the Zone album was more urban and she even shifted to Euro pop grooves with Bloodshy and Avant. Blackout was more erotic with the techno dance sounds and her venture to Autotunes, which actually helped. Circus was more urban/pop driven, with a bit of the dance pop similar to what Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Kesha and Katy Perry are doing now. I think she will combine a lot of her musical shifts for this new album. I really believe that her songs are not all the same. She’s that good with changing and switching it up music wise for each album she does, what she’s feeling at the time.
Dumb title. Uninteresting art. Decent single though. What is 7, is that how many albums she’s had?
Gaga will blow it out in February, btw!
Have you read the Lyrics to BTW? LOL LOL LOL LOL.
Yeah. Positivity is funny. The cover looks like a really good fanmade cover, and that’s nor a bad thing. And it doesn’t matter if she knew what the title meant, somewhere in planning the album she would’ve found out.
Preachy nonsense IS funny. People will just deep throat ANYHTHING Gaga puts out.
Love it, love her, CANNOT wait for the album!!!
In the context of ‘femme fatale’, I would would have expected a film noir cover, for Brit to be channeling Barbara Stanwyck or Lauren Bacall in shadows… but this is something I’ve never seen before. So, she ensnares us through ethereal grace as opposed to moody pose. Quite interesting.
I feel danger in her eyes. She’s staring the audience down like, “I’m going to eat you.”
you must be kidding. Britney essentially displays little to no understanding of “femme fatale” with her cover and you say “she ensnares us through ethereal grace as opposed to moody pose”. You are too easily impressed.
If the photo fails to encompass the femme fatale image, that would be the photographers and art director’s fault- not Britney’s.
Britney can’t choose which photo gets used? Shouldn’t she have control over her output?
Depends on what she has to choose from. It still would not likely be her fault. You can only pick from the best of what the photog was able to capture.
Don’t love the album art work, but the title is sexy! Love the single, and i’m sure the album will be great! I’m excited!
The album cover is amazing!!!!!! She looks stunning, not over done. the album title fits the project. sorry gaga..you are defiantly 2nd…
How can you say that when you haven’t even heard anything on the record yet outside of the first single?
Love the cover—she looks so pretty!
I am very excited for this album. It will be THE mega pop album of Twenty-Eleven.
Needs more skin to sell records.
sex is not what we need. theres enough of that. shes done a tastefull and very sexy cover. look in her eyes. its sad how people think we need nudity to sell a record.
I’m looking in her eyes and the first thing besides seeing empty space is that she should be showing more skin on her album cover.
sex is all Britney has ever been about. there is no substance to her.
Nah, just a little photoshop.
I really like the title but she doesn’t look like a femme fatale at all.
I wonder how her body looks now….
