Big Time Rush: Behind the scenes of the boy band's 'Boyfriend' video collaboration with Snoop Dogg -- EXCLUSIVE VIDEO

Snoop-Dog-Big-Time-RushOn Saturday evening, amid a night of new episodes of Victorious and True Jackson VP, Big Time Rush — the fledgling boy-band created by Nickelodeon via the teen-bopping series of the same name — debuted their latest music video for their pop ditty “Boyfriend,” a collaboration with Snoop Dogg. (See EW’s First Look at the Snoop’s guest spot on the series back in November.) And you know what? The song is actually kinda totally infectious and fun — so much so that I can’t get it out of my head for days and days afterward. What I’m saying is: I’m a fan of Big Time Rush. Yes, yes, in the scheme of boy bands of all time, it remains to be seen if Big Time Rush will be remembered like the greats New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys and ‘NSYNC. (The real meter of success is: Will I be karaoking “Boyfriend” in 10 years like I karaoked “I Want It That Way” last Saturday night?) But, truly, you never know what Big Time Rush could become, right? Super stardom is possible. Heck, they’re working with Snoop, which is always a good sign.

So with that, I’m happy to bring you a little behind-the-scenes video from the “Boyfriend” music video shoot. In it, the cuties — that’d be Kendall, 20; James, 20; Carlos, 21; and Logan, 21—tell us how and why they made the music video, what it was like working with Snoop, and lots more. And beyond that — in true, teen-zine fandom craziness! — you’ll find some candid answers from the guys on a number of hot-hot-hot topics, ranging from their vices while recording and dream collaborators to what kind of music they listened to while growing up and what boy bands they love. Enjoy!

And now for those quick Q&A sessions with the boys…

LOGAN PHILLIP HENDERSON, 21
What’s your favorite food or vice to get you through a long recording session?
As bad as it is…coffee. I usually take down a couple of cups during a session.

What song on your album doesn’t get enough love that people should really listen to?
We have so many great songs on the album, but one of my personal favorites is “Nothing Even Matters.”

What kind of music did you grow up listening to?
I grew up with the Beatles, B.B. King, Elvis, Eric Clapton, Aerosmith, Incubus, Taking Back Sunday, Radiohead, and Michael Jackson.

JAMES DAVID MASLOW, 20
What boy bands out there do you think are great—and why?
Looking at the past, ‘NSYNC was the greatest in my opinion. They literally spent years rehearsing before they did any major tour and thanks to that, they were a well-oiled machine. Justin Timberlake is a prime example of how a truly talented artist can then transition from a group into a successful solo career, and the lesson I take from that is to never stop training and striving to get better.

Who are your celebrity crushes?
I have had a crush on Emma Watson since the first Harry Potter. No, I haven’t met her yet, but a guy can hope.

What do you look for in a girl?
For me to be interested in a girl, she has to have an outgoing personality and a passion of her own. Low maintenance is nice, too.

CARLOS ROBERTO PENA, JR., 21
Why do you think Snoop Dogg wanted to work with you?
We were very excited when we found out that Snoop Dogg wanted to do the show. He told us that his daughter was a big fan and that once he knew that, it was a done deal. In his many years of doing shows and videos, his daughter had not once wanted to come to the set as much as she did for the Big Time Rush Snoop “Boyfriend” video!

What was it like working with him?
Working with Snoop Dogg was just as awesome as anyone might think. He met all of our expectations and more. He’s just as cool and relaxed as he appears.

You’ve worked with Snoop Dogg now, but who are your dream collaborators?
We would love to work with Justin Timberlake. We all look up to him very much and it would be a dream to collaborate on a song with him.

KENDALL FRANCIS SCHMIDT, 20
What song on your album doesn’t get enough love that people should really listen to?
Thankfully, our fans give a lot of love to all our songs. That is why we have the best fans in the world.

Why do you think Snoop Dogg wanted to work with you? What was it like working with him?
I know he was a fan because his daughter was a big fan of the show and the music. So we got the chance to work with a legend…and he couldn’t have been any cooler! Thanks Snoop!

You’ve worked with Snoop Dogg now, but who are your dream collaborators?
We all agree — Justin Timberlake would be pretty amazing.

kendall is by far the ugliest

    • jury’s out

Kendall just needs longer hair. Unlike most Disney boys, he’s not pretty. He’s has an attractive, masculine looking face.

    • Meg

That picture is bad, but he looks good in the video.

      • Phil

The picture is BAD because most STR8 men in 2011 dont dye their hair! Haha So on top of having an ugly face, his eyebrows are completely different from his lightened hair, haha Its not 2001, its 2011.

    • joe

he is the not the uglyist!

  • Daniel

So how come you only asked one of the guys what he looks for in a girl? What are you saying?

    • ???

      What are you saying?

  • Tina44

Met the guys in person, and these pics don’t do them justice. Kendall has the most amazing eyes.

so my friend tricked me with this song…she played it first and asked me what i thought. i told her it was a good song and i would totally download it and i wanted to know who it was by. she told me btr and i was like…the band from nick? with the tv show? really? and then i proceeded to go off about them. and then when i got home i totally downloaded this song because it’s good but i renamed the file so no one will know who it really is.

    • Jani

Do you really care that much of what people think of you? If you like BTR just say so, i told my whole class and all my friends that i am a huge fan, they didnt complain or tease me at all so just say that its BTR, there’s nothing wrong with being a fan ;)

  • greg

amber, i think you should like spend totally more time with ur homework, especially like the english and totally not so much lol time with ur bff. totally. like.

    • amber

greg, i think you should spend less time trying (really hard) to be a smart ass and more time paying attention to the reply button. totally. like. okay.

  • Uschi

Since Nickelodeon is on 24/7 in my house, I couldn’t avoid these guys if I wanted to. I like them, but they need a new choreographer BIG TIME! Those moves are just sad.

  • Sadie

These guys were on a local radio station this morning — they must be in the middle of a big push from their marketing team. I have to say, they were very charming during the interview, which was somewhat of an ambush. And you rarely get it wrong with Snoop.

  • Anna

My son loves these guys and I have grown to like them as well. We met them in Orlando during their radio promo tour. I was blown away by how nice these guys were! I say they should ride the fame wagon as long as they can. They are over the top cute and have decent voices. However, they need to fire the choreographer because their dance moves are pathetic.

  • carina

woah woah. SHUT UP all you stupid girls & boys who said that kendall looks ugly !! you’re just jealous because YOU’RE UGLY. if you think he’s ugly, then you don’t know what real sexiness IS ! & if you don’t like him, don’t say it. we all love BTR & your stupid comments are just emberassing. -.-
btw: my favourite is KENDALL ! <3

  • GIN

i have to say..the show is funny, thesongs are better than many songs i hear on the radio and i wonder why no stations play them..

    • Nupur

I TOTALLY AGREE with you in that GIN! The show is FUNNY and their songs are AMAZING! I always wonder why their songs are rarely played on radio! On Chicago’s B96, “Boyfriend” is played, but not often! Most of the songs on radio these days are boring and not good!

  • PN

I think that no one was ready for a boy band for a couple of years, but now the attention is on Big Time Rush. I’m not too crazy about their TV show, just their music and their first album. It’s a good pop album and they sound good. I like Boyfriend on the album, but the hip-hop kick and remix with Snoop Dogg will help their sales a little. I hope they get respected for their music on their own if the TV show ends its run.

  • tialhleizi

    gud job guys….:))<3

  • Liz Lemon

Aww. James has a crush on Emma W. This is the 10th time he’s mentioned it.

  • LIZBETH
