Aha! And now the egg/pod type thing in which Lady Gaga arrived at the Grammys all makes sense! Okay, not totally, but at least we Read the full post.

She’s quite a performer; always entertaining. However, the song is such a madonna rip-off. The first time it came on the radio, i spontaneously sand “express yourself” along with it and it matches pretty much beat for beat. I figure GLEE will do a mash-up really soon. C’mon Gaga, give me something more!
I think a lot of people here missed the point.
Craziest performance of Gaga’s career? No.
Is coming out of an egg/shell original? No.
Is this song a knockoff of other songs? Yeah probably.
But you’d also have to tell Madonna she ripped off some medieval traveling bard for stealing his chord progression. How many consecutive notes does it take before you plagiarize someone else’s song? If you sing with vibrato will Pavarotti return from the grave and kick your ass? And c’mon guys, it’s the Grammys, it’s a celebration of music. All of the varying references to copying music only helps support the musical prowess of this song.
Let’s be real – it was a great performance that wasn’t intended to be overdone or distracting (e.g. basic dance moves, costumes) so the message of the song would get through. This song derives a lot of inspiration from many other musical talents and its message of “be happy with who you are” will be an anthem to this generation. Are there any other songs out there that reference both Bible thumpers and LGBT supporters and illicit their approvals? I’ll bet that when I look up how many downloads/purchases this single has gotten, right after I finish posting this comment, it will be some some sort of chart-topper within its first few days of debut. Not bad for being half Madonna’s age.
i love gaga, britney and katy perry, all of are dif in talent but all r gr8
I miss Leigh Bowery, Sylvester, Grace Jones, Klaus Nomi just to name a few. You know she has been Heavily influenced by these legends. I think they would be proud of this young girl, Ga Ga
She will do great things, eventually. Grammy night was not one of them though. That was just entertaining the masses
and promoting her brand.
Her performance was not shocking and over the top. But as Matty said, that’s how she intended it to be. Lady Gaga acknowleged the fact that this performance and releasing “Born This Way” as her first single was going to be a risk, but it was worth it. It was worth it to her to send a message to the audience that it’s okay to be different and that different is beautiful. She insists she does not Lip synch, and I beleive she is telling the truth. She does sing with back-up tracks, but her mic. levels are turned up significantly compared to the tracks. They are there to assist the performance, but she carries the majority of it, which is more than other performers can say. Whether she is a better performer than Britney is an opinion, and I won’t argue with anyone who thinks Britney is better. But my opinion is that they are completely different types of artists, and both of them are awesome in their own way. “Born This Way” has the same *chord progression* as other songs that many people have heard, but the same can be said for almost every pop song. I could go through most songs on my iPod and be able to find thousands of connections between their chord progressions. So she did not plagiarise or copy anyone else’s song, but used a song writing method that is taught in music theory classes across the world. Whether you like the song or not is, again, an opinion. Am I a Gaga fan? I think her music is catchy, I support her promotion of equal rights, and she is in my view a fantastic performer. What I find most appealing about her is that she isn’t “indulgent”. She doesn’t perform for HERSELF. She does it for her fans. This performance by itself wasn’t my favorite, but she did what she intended and sent a powerful message which, to me, is admirable.
Great article. I can¡¯t wait to hear more about your research tool. If it is as good as your other products, then you will have another winner. Your article pretty much summed up what I have been seeing too. Great to see some hard data.
