I’m going to be honest, I am a fan of Rihanna, but when you see pictures and shots of the video side by side, its pretty obvious. At the same time, it doesn’t seem like she should be sued personally. It seems the director should be the one named in the lawsuit right? I mean if they just took a picture of a person (everyday person, celebrity, whatever) and it was an exact copy of something that was done, wouldnt you sue the photographer for infringement?

If this is anything. I don’t think he should sue rihanna over an idea. It’s an idea, he didn’t come up with clowns or the idea of tables or anything as such. He should be thanking her cause i really never heard of the guy that is trying to sue her, why makes him think people are really gonna care if his stuff is tooken if no one knows about him.

I’m willing to bet Rihanna DID know. She’s been trying so hard to live up to the fashionista image her record label created for her. Honestly, she’s a beautiful girl. But she’s not contributing ANYTHING to the world of music.

David LaChapelle is world famous and legendary photographer, so I’m surprise that some of you said that you haven’t heard of him. I agree that Rihanna has been trying to live up to a fashionista image that it masks that she really has no talent. I think both Rihanna and the director of the video have since came out and said that the video was inspired by LaChapelle. The point is they didn’t do it at first. So I think he has a good case.

based on the facts presented here he has no case. it may seem unfair but that is copyright law. you cannot copyright and idea or a concept. also, while the video is clearly inspired by the photos one crucial element to win a copyright claim is to show the value of the orig work is diminished by the creation of a copy. he can’t make that case. on the contrary, the existence of the video is likely to increase awareness of his work. also the party to sue is the record label; rihanna is named as a defendant in the suit purely to get press coverage. it’s called legal strategy. if this case makes it to trial, he will lose.

Pot calling the kettle black ay. An industry collapsing through people infringing copyright (downloading music illegally) and the individuals involved with the creation and approval of this video have the audacity to rip off lachappelle’s work. The prats involved ought to be fired.
