Adele sings 'Natural Woman' beautifully on 'VH1 Unplugged' -- EXCLUSIVE VIDEO

If British chanteuse Adele had been included in Sunday’s Grammys-opening tribute to Aretha Franklin (and honestly, why wasn’t she?), it’s worth considering: What ‘Retha song should/would/could she have contributed?

Well, any and all of course — there’s little this lady can’t do. But based on her explosive, emotive rendition of “Natural Woman” in this exclusive clip from an upcoming episode of VH1′s Unplugged, we here at EW would vote resoundingly for Carole King’s woman-empowered classic that Aretha popularized in 1967. As you might imagine, the rebooted Unplugged atmosphere is just perfect for Adele’s fiery singer-songwriter sensibility. Plus, it showcases the fact that this gal can sing. She don’t need no backup. No synthesizers. And no dancers. It’s all about her.

VH1 Unplugged: Adele premieres online Thursday, March 3, at 7 p.m. at Unplugged.VH1.com and will air on VH1 Friday, March 4, at 11 p.m. The online premiere on March 3 will be accompanied by a live viewing party where fans can watch and chat with one another. There are no words. She is fantastic! Love the cover of Natural Woman. :)

    • Jonathan

I agree. This girl is amazing.

    • Jethro

Agree, she is, in my opinion, one of the best right now! She is almost unrecognizable, she looks great! “Chasing Pavements” continues to haunt me 2 years after it was released. The Grammys got it right when anointing her BNA, a feat they usually get wrong!

Her voice continues to be amazing!

    • James

Hi, I’m Adele- I can hit amazing notes while just sitting on a stool, legs crossed, and it’s all effortless. Just chillin, belting out a tune like it’s nothing…relaxing on a stool, while being all amazing. Such a great singer. Great cover, too.

  • Kaci

Absolutely ADORE Adele. I could listen to her sing for hours (which I have; her albums 19 and 21 have been streaming in my office all day). <3

    • Jane

And I’ll bet those were the best work days ever :-) I love her–her talent is amazing, and awe-inspiring!

  • abadstroller

Wow. Cute and amusingly jarring, too, how she goes from her earthy singing voice to her natural talking voice!

  • bill norris

now thats how a powerhouse sounds. and she did it without all the warbeling that some female singers think that they need to add to a song. That was AWESOME, and its nice to see she sounds as good if not better then on cd.

  • Kate

I love her. Too many people are afraid to just let the music speak for itself, but she shows you can sing your heart out without the need for all theatrics!

  • Dave

No words. I adore her. She better take home some Grammys next year for her new album.

  • adele is a goddess gaga go away

This woman RULES. All the hoopla about these “artists” hitting the charts today, the gagas and the biebers and the keshas and britneys…people with zero talent and tons of marketing…makes me sick. Fortunately we still have performers like Adele who can actually sing. Absolutely brilliant. I weep for the state of current popular music.

    • Bijou

That’s why the Rhiannas and the Kate Perrys perform almost naked, to distract from their thin, overproduced voices. Adele does not need to that.

      • bootsycolumbia

        Amen, Bijou! Well said.

      • ajax9191

actually Katy perry did a unplugged session that sounded pretty good. She didnt overwork the songs and still pumped some energy into the songs. Other than that she always manages to sound really bad when she performs songs like fireworks.

      • James

You forgot the Gaga’s- it’s all antics above talent.

    • Tarc

Adele is probably the best singer in world in the under 30 category – she’s just astonishing. And while I agree that Rhianna is completely tone deaf and katy Pretty has weak vocals, dismissing Gaga as an amazing vocalist is complete nonsense. She can completely kill a vocal and accompany herself on the piano at the drop of a hat. It’s absurd to dismiss the actual content because yuo don’t like the wrapper. In fact, I think a dream duet would be Adele and Gaga, both of whom favor strong vocals over one instrument accompaniment.

      • Tarc

Er, apologies for the typos. Katy Perry is a pretty decent entertainer, but her vocals aren’t good.

      • Linney17

Gaga will never, ever measure up to Adele’s talent, vocally. It isn’t just the wrapper I’m not interested in. The content truly doesn’t impress me.

      • Mardyfella

You’re right. Gaga can sing and play the piano. The acoustic version of Poker Face she did at Glastonbury was amazing (in lots of ways. Watch it)! Adele’s a better singer though.

  • Bijou

LOVE Adele’s voice, natural talent!! The answer about the Grammys..can you imagine this lovely, natural, unforced voice singing next to the (unnecessary) vocal screaming acrobatics that Christina Aguilera calls singing???? I can’t.

    • amanda

Christina would fallen COMPLETLY over if she had had the honor to be on the same stage as Adele.

    • Tarc

Christina *is* one of the greatest singers in the world, and she’s kocked out some of the most memorbale vocals of the last decade (most not top 40, but 99.999% of music isn’t either). But for a while there, it looked like she’d learned that oversinging is as much of a problem as undersinging, but that seems to have gone by the wayside. And that’s depressing, because she would be so much better if she could really learn the basic skill of when to make it simple and let the melody of the song do the work.

  • A

Adele is a true artist. Much more than can be said for the majority of top 40 music.

  • John Myers

What an awesome cover! Thanks for sharing it!

  • Sandy

This was an American show with an American tribute to an American artist. Five powerhouses were enough. Do the Brits really have to horn in on everything?

    • chantal

I vote YES as they do as they often have a more natural talent those Brits!!

    • Cat

      Florence is British.

    • A

I guess a British person should never be allowed to pay tribute to an American person, or vice versa.

    • chantal

Aren’t Muse British? Weird comment, it’s the GRAMMY’s not the AMerian Music awards.

    • kat

um, arcade fire- album of the year- canadian

    • pka

And Florence Welch who sang in the tribute is British…

  • jimmyjo

Just saw her on the British show Jool Hollands presents, she was amazing, just her and a guitar, no bells and whistles, pure talent. LOVE that show (anybody else??) as they showcase REAL artists and not overproduced ones like a US version of this should would likely do.

    • Tarc

I wish we had an American version of Jools Holland. It’s the best live music show on the planet right now.

  • kat

She’s amazing. Her performance at the Brits last night was absolutely incredible.

  • Adam

One of the best vocalist to come out in the last 20 years. Not the biggest fan of the song honestly, but Adele could sing a phone book to me and I probably would be misty eyed.

  • What

I have the biggest lady crush on her.
