Image Credit: Nick KnightAs if Lady Gaga’s sci-fi egg spectacle at Sunday’s Grammys wasn’t proof enough that the gal knows how to make a splashy entrance: Her new track “Born This Way” debuted in the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 today, officially becoming the 1,000th chart-topping song in the chart’s 52-year history.
“It is a tremendous honor,” Gaga told Billboard. “To be the 1000th no. 1 on Billboard…I would be silly not to say this is the greatest honor of my career.” The song is the first single and title track of Gaga’s upcoming album, slated for May 23; it’s also the pop star’s third number one hit after the 2009 double play of “Just Dance” and “Poker Face.” (Oddly, her megahit “Bad Romance” peaked at number two).
“Born This Way” also set a record for the highest first-week digital sales for a female artist, racking up 448,000 downloads to best Britney Spears’ latest single, “Hold It Against Me.”
For all you trivia buffs, the first single to top the Hot 100 was Ricky Nelson’s 1958 hit “Poor Little Fool.”

What’s even more amazing is that since the single was released on a Friday (as opposed to Tuesday for other releases), she accomplished this feat in only 3 days of sales/airplay.
Exactly 3 days….highest radio debut in history topping the record holder miss Janet since 2001. Looks like blogs can’t stop the GAGA…rah rah haters…lol.
Gaga is much better than all these other ones. Can’t believe Bad Romance peaked at number 2..sounds number 1. Looking forward to the album.

But people were really waiting for that Lady Gaga song and it really took off! I thought that she needed to stop milking singles from Fame Monster and get new music out. About Gaga being accused of copying Madonna, her thing is that she’s hugely influenced by many ’80s dance hits such as Madonna’s and it’s felt quite a lot in her music. Best that she took off in three days and hit No. 1 rather than that typical slow 8 or 9 week climb from starting at No. 56 against heavy competition from Bruno, Katy and others and moving up to No. 1 in that much time. Most artists need to take her heed and get their music singles out immediately for their loyal fans to buy it.
A dj said that her record label paid them to play the song every hour. She cheated to get her airplay numbers to get the #1 at this time. Not only is she a ripoff artist, but she’s a cheat also.

I disagree…out of all the other ‘Be Yourself Anthems’ out currently, Gaga’s is the most honest and in-your-face…P!nk’s is mainly just about ‘raising glasses,’ partying and drinking the way you want, ‘party freaks’…and Ke$ha’s…well, is just Ke$ha’s…

IMO, Born This Way is WAY better than Kesha’s and Katy’s “anthems”. It deserved to go #1.
It only took her 3 days to get over 400k purchases on itunes, she dominated it worldwide which has never been seen before. She is proving herself with every record that she is here to stay and I love it.
