Britney Spears' 'Femme Fatale': Hear a snippet of new song 'I Wanna Go'

Britney-spearsIt was just last Thursday that Britney debuted the video for her No. 1 hit “Hold It Against Me” — but as is often the case with pop music, we’re already on to the next thing!

And that’s the next single from Brit-Brit, which is apparently going to be a song called “I Wanna Go” —and which, like “Hold It Against Me,” again comes to us from hit-maestro Dr. Luke, who’s responsible for everyone from Ke$ha to Jessie J.

A 20-second snippet of the song has hit the internets. In the vein of “Hold It Against Me,” “I Wanna Go” sounds like it’s going to be a veritable dance-floor banger, too—it’s loaded with synthy sounds, an addictive whistle, and a crescendo-ish, almost ascendant vocal from Ms. Spears. I’d say that the general vibe is basically: If you love dancey Britney, you’ll have no trouble loving this. Click through the jump here to take a quick listen.

And: Thoughts? Love it? Hate it?

Un-contral-ably! Rock on Brit! (…it’s about time)

    • Jennifer

For Christ’s sake, I wish people (especially employed writers) would quit calling it “the internets”.
That was funny for about a week. Now it’s just pathetic.

First of all I’m still in shock that people keep bringing up Pink as if she’s good or something. And please don’t compare Swift to Perry and Gaga. Because whether you like her or not she’s a musicians. Plays instruments , writes her own music. As for Brit, YES her sound has evolved. And her run is long from over so all of you pathetic losers hoping for her downfall, too bad.

      • fancypants

Pink is great, but seeing as how you’re a Britney fan it’s clear your taste in music is questionable at best. Pink can sing anything: pop, rock, soul, funk, R&B, etc ALL WHILE SINGING LIVE!! That’s a novel concept, isn’t it.

  • paul

Britney — You had a good run. Time for you to officially retire from the biz. You cannot compete with the likes of Lady Gaga, Pink or even Katy Perry.

    • tom sea

Katy Perry…really? Love all the artist you mentioned but Britney is ahead of her game. She is working with folks who know what will be hott and what to make hott. She is global, unlike Perry who could not sell out a concert in Lisbon. Just sayin’

      • Janet

Next thing to be hot? Spelling it ‘hott’. Thanks Tom.

When will Britney’s music evolve? She’s been singing the same autotuned, techno-pop tripe since day one. I know she can’t sing, but plenty of other less-than-stellar vocalists at least develop a musical identity that evolves, mutates, and yes, matures as they go further into their career. Brit has been playing the same ole’ sexy-pop-tart-with-blonde-extensions, and singing the same ole crappy bubblegum tehno-shAT since the start. I think she is an icon…an iconic presence in the pop landscape that represents thet utter triumph of disposable entertainment as a constant.

      • Jase

@Tony- Britney’s music has changed. In The Zone does not sound like Blackout, Blackout does not sound like Circus. But she sings POP music so all of her songs will always be POP. And clearly its been working for her since her last 2 singles went #1. If you don’t like her music then why on earth did you click on article to listen to one of her songs?

I absolutely agree. I loved Britney’s Baby, One More Time. It was amusing, nicely done fluff, and she made no bones about it. Then album after album, she kept releasing the same three cords, the same melody-free hooks, the same synth-heavy beats, and to this day, she has not deviated from that formula. But I don’t blame her, it has worked for her, with hit after hit. And yes, I agree with the “icon” thing. But I would add Paris Hilton there…Paris and Britney exemplify that you even the word ICON doesn’t necessarily mean that you have substance or gravitas. They are both prototipical of the uber-successful blank, the talentless void that actualy lasts long and endures. That whole thing about 15 minutes of fame? Britney and Paris prove that even with minimal to zero talent, you can become a fixture in pop culture.

      • Jonathan

@Tony – I will agree that her lyrics have not evolved much since her debut. However, it is the beats and styles of pop that have changed and push the boundaries. She knows how to set trends that other people will follow. Look at what came after Blackout, her LEAST successful album: dark techno-pop hooks with urban-tinged beats. She may not have a voice like Christina or Gaga, but she has good instincts, which goes a LONG way.

      • Joanne

Sad, that to this day Britney, a charismatic performer, if not a great singer, is still following the trends instead of leading them. This song sounds like a reject from Madonna’s Confessions on a Dance Floor. Is this a new fad, copying Madonna? Christina, Lady Gaga, now Britney in this Hung Up redux and in her video for Hold It Against Me…

      • @Jonathan

How in the hell is Brit Brit “pushing boundaries” and “setting trends”? Hold It Against Me sounds like Gaga circa 2008, this new one is Madonna’s Hung Up re-packaged, and in her new video she riffs on the Like A Virgin aesthetic?

      • Jonathan

Reply @Jonathan – Well she introduced dubstep to the mainstream with HIAM, and I didn’t get a ‘Like a Virgin’ vibe AT ALL from the video, and I’m a big Madonna fan. HIAM has a more beat-heavy rhythm than anything Gaga’s done, although since pop is pop there isn’t going to be a ton of differentiation. I was more talking about how Britney was the first to get urban beats into the mainstream pop sound with ‘I’m A Slave 4 U’ and the accompanying album. Then, she pushed darker club beats with ‘In the Zone’, and everyone followed. I already mentioned what she did with ‘Blackout’ in my previous post; ‘Circus’ was poised too much as a comeback, and therefore played it too safe. Britney has a way of changing things up enough that others follow, but not so much to completely change the music scene. I think people tend to overlook that.

    • Michael

FIRST of all, Britney is WAY better than Katy Perry will ever be. And she’s different than Pink and Lady Gaga, so comparisons there are really not worth anyone’s time. She is FAR from retirement, and I’m certain this new album will be filled with hits.

      • Tom Rhich

They’ll ONLY be hits cuz they’ll be played over n over n over on the stupid radio that plays nothing than top 40 junk, and it will be hyped and backed huge financially and splashed like an explosive bowel movement all over mainstream media. all the pop, rap, and r&B go and die on the mainstream scene. Its no wonder, new, very similar sounding “entertainers”, NOT true “artists” (a term that should be held for true musicians who write their own music and play their own instruments) come frequently to the billboard.

    • PN

I think she can compete with Lady Gaga, Pink or Katy Perry with her own kind of dance pop. She’s right in the top 10 against those other singers at this very moment! It’s going to be stiff competition among those 4 artists the next couple of months with Britney’s March album and Gaga’s May album!

    • Tom Rhich

you musically inept morons are ALL wrong. Brit was all hype with sub-average vocals. She rightfully fell into obscurity and needs to go back. The other “artists” are mere fodder left in her overhyped wake. Perry, Gaga, Swift, and what ever else similar sounding garbage are manufactured pop gimmicks that’ll fade when the next, hotter, hyped up, over-produced gimmick comes along.

Ive heard Swifts so called award winning album, and it sounds EXACTLY like the junk thats played in short clips on every other stupid MTV show – unimpressive music with unimpressive lyrics

      • Jonathan

Then obviously you can’t see past your own biases. Taylor writes, produces, and plays instruments on her songs; I’m not sure what more one could want. She can’t be compared to pop starlets because she’s NOT one. She’s a musician by definition. You don’t have to like her music, but if you’re going to whine about the lack of ‘real’ artists then at the very least you should not bash Swift for being what you want. That’s just being a hypocrite.

  • Jonathan

This sounds amazing. Circus was a little disappointing after Blackout, but I think this is gonna be her best album yet.

  • Sy

Sounds like a mix of a Ke$ha reject and Madonna’s “Hung Up”. But I dig it.

  • Sonny

    Never heard of ‘em.

  • Flip

So excited! This song sounds great.

  • Nick T

    Loved it.

  • sally

So again we get autotuned techno/club beat song. When will popstars stop with this crap.

  • Jase

Tanner this song is actually produced by Max Martin and Shellback. Not Dr.Luke. Dr.Luke released the clip because he and Max are executive producing the album/

  • Dave

I kind of like that child-like whistling in the song. It’s cool. I still have my doubts as to whether this album can top Blackout though. I wish she was working with Danja instead of Dr. Luke.

  • Trisha

Sounds like K$. I would fault Dr. Luke for making an army of clones, not Britney, but when will the public object?

    • PN

I don’t think it sounds like Kesha at all. Kesha is another kind of singer to me with her party all night themes. I’m sure Dr. Luke must have had a busy year doing some 30 songs or so by these artists so what he does for Britney is entirely different from what he does for Kesha,Katy Perry, Pink or others.

  • GOSSIPGIRLXOXO

I wish these young people who are exposed to Lady Gaga and Katy Perry and Kesha were our age when Britney hit the scene. They are so young and think britney is a copy cat when in fact go listen to all of her albums and notice that she ACTUALLY gets ahead of the music scene most notably with her “BRITNEY” album. “IN THE ZONE’ she reinvent herself and then with “BLACKOUT” she set the tone for these generation of dance music. SHe will always be the queen of pop and Madonna will be the GODMOTHER OF POP.

    • Jonathan

      Amen to this!!!

    • laura

This! No one out right now could top what Britney did at her peak,

    • Tom Rhich

She set no tone for a generation of dance music. The big whigs that created brit decided on that direction or at least aimed her in that direction and others made the beats…she merely contributed (if even that) to the lyrics. All she contributed was her obviously auto-tuned vocals.

You have to be an idiot to even concieve the notion that brit contributes a great deal to the final product (her look and auto-tuned, overproduced vocals are the majority of her contribution)

    • Maureen

Agreed with EVERYTHING you said until the Britney is the Queen of Pop and Madonna is the Godmother of Pop comment. Britney is definitely creating her legacy and place is music history, but Madonna will ALWAYS be the Queen. ;)

  • Rich

Blackout was an awesome album..if you don’t lke this type of music …thats cool..but millions do so keep on keeping on Brit

    • Rik Shaw

Millions of ppl with bad taste that loves to waste their money no doubt

      • Jonathan

Who are you to know exactly what ‘bad taste’ even is?

  • Justin

I love this. This album is going to own me!!!!

  • PN

I like the whistle effect in the song. This gives even Hold a run for its money on the dance beats alone! I’m just imagining a high energy dance heavy release with Britney’s Femme Fatale, one club banger to the next! I believe she might give snippets of most of the album’s songs leading up to the March 29th release to give listeners a chance to hear the different flavors of the album. I don’t think she’s trying to sound like Blackout–she’s making the album she wants to make without comparisons to past releases!
