Taylor Swift sails past 20 million sales mark: Who are her closest peer competitors?

Country superstar, actress, and girlfriend-with-a-built-in-expiration-date Taylor Swift has yet another feather to put in her beret—the 21-year-old has now sold over 20 million albums.

That’s a milestone most artists have to wait for far longer than a breezy six years—and usually they have more than three proper albums under their belt. That makes the blonde country music juggernaut one of the top-selling artists to emerge from the 2000s.

So who are her nearest songstress competitors? The Alpha American Idol Kelly Clarkson is just ahead of Swift with 23 million albums sold worldwide, but the Fearless singer is leading fellow country chanteuse Carrie Underwood by four million records on the global stage.

So congrats, Taylor. You belong to millions of us.

After six weeks at No. 1, Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” has been pushed out of the top spot on the Billboard hot 100 singles chart. Taking her place is Katy Perry’s Kanye West-assisted “E.T.,” moving up a slot from No. 2 last week. Its outer space video just dropped as well. Gaga’s “Way” slips to No. 4.

Rihanna’s “S&M” follows Perry at No. 2, and  Cee-Lo’s “F**k You (Forget You)” rises a rung to No. 3. Check out the full top 10 after the jump.

After killing the dreams of fans hoping to get a two-for-one bang for their pop-loving bucks through his reps, Enrique Iglesias took to his WhoSay page to apologize to those who thought they’d see him and fellow star Britney Spears on tour together this summer.

“Hey guys, sorry for the confusion regarding a possible tour in the summer with Britney Spears,” he wrote. “We are on the Euphoria Tour and will continue to do so including some soon-to-be-announced dates in US. So hope to see all of you soon.”

Guess we’ll have to wait for Iglesias and Spears to hit a town near us separately. What do you think? Let us know.

Katy Perry's 'E.T.' video feat. Kanye West: Watch the bizarro sci-fi fest here!

Post-apocalyptic landscape, Kanye West floating in zero gravity, the kiss of a woman turning a robot into flesh-and-blood… it can only mean one thing: Katy Perry is officially in orbit for her “E.T.” music video.

This spacey, robotic jam might not have been an album highlight, but thanks to Kanye West’s verses concerning his commitment to alien sex, the song is currently a number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100, as well as fodder for this awesomely bizzare sci-fi video, which impressively resists any obvious Spielberg references. NKOTBSB's new single 'Don't Turn Out the Lights': Listen (and girlishly swoon) here

I don’t want to like this new song from the super boy band that I’m pretty sure was plucked straight out of my wildest dreams. (Did I mention my dreams are pretty boring?) The problem is that Sandra circa 1998 won’t let me mock it.

The new song from NKOTBSB (New Kids on the Block + Back Street Boys), titled “Don’t Turn Off the Lights,” was first previewed in December to fans aboard the Backstreet Boys cruise*, but this is the first time the track has been heard in its entirety. You can hear it below: READ FULL STORY »

Adele's 'Someone Like You': Watch a 10-year-old sing it like pro

Tiny body, old soul: Watch below as ten-year-old Brit Connie Talbot sings her small heart (and big lungs) out, a pocket Adele just hanging out under the stairs at home—apparently, pretty standard production values at the Talbot house—and ripping through the 22-year-old U.K. superstar’s torchy, wrenching ballad, with just a backing piano track and a blue boutonnier for company:

Emerging rhymer Theophilus London fights the press in 'Why Even Try' video: Watch here

Filed under: Music and tagged: , ,

Last week a collection of New York City’s cool kids—a mixed bunch who take pride in being early adopters and claiming new talents before the masses hear of them—packed Webster Hall’s basement to see Theophilus London perform for MTV’s Live In NYC series (airing on MTV.com April 5).

Coming off a slew of performances at Texas’ South by Southwest festival, the Brooklyn, NY native (No, he’s not from London), rocked the crowd with his collection of mixtape bangers and a few gems like “Flying Overseas” from his recent EP, Lovers Holiday.

The progressive rapper and sometime singer is popular among a growing audience, but far from a celebrity. Although the video he released last night for Holiday‘s lead single, “Why Even Try,” suggests that he sees Lady Gaga-level paparazzi attention in his future.

In it, London tries to spend some quality time with his lady friend, but can’t shake fans and camera crews trying to get a piece of him. As soon as he steps outside, his every step is monitored by aptly named station TL-TV.

Similar to a lot pop stars, he both enjoys and hates the cameras–hosting a web show with friends, then fighting a overzealous paparazzo on the sidewalk. Guess he’s going to have to start being mindful of where he eats in a restaurant (No window seats!) and chill out with the public displays of affection.

Rihanna speaks out on Chris Brown: 'We don't have to talk ever again in my life'

If anyone thought Rihanna’s move to relax the restraining order against Chris Brown meant the R&B diva was open to reconnecting with her abusive former boyfriend, they can think again.

“It doesn’t mean we’re gonna make up, or even talk again. It just means I didn’t want to object to the judge,” Rihanna told Rolling Stone in her cover story.

The singer says she agreed to modify the court order for purely professional reasons. READ FULL STORY »

Chris Brown's 'F.A.M.E.' tops Billboard 200 album chart with more than a quarter of a million copies sold

Looks like Team Breezy didn’t let their man down this week.

The ride-or-die followers of embattled pop star Chris Brown lifted his fourth album, F.A.M.E., to a No. 1 debut on the Billboard 200 albums chart. It’s the second album since the infamous February 2009 incident that nearly cost him his career. The first, December 2009′s ill-received Graffiti, was a (relative) dud—pushing out just over 100,000 copies in its first week for a No. 7 opening.

Thirteen months later, it appears that aside from last week’s much-covered relapse, Brown is back. F.A.M.E. moved 270,000 units in its first seven days out. It’s the first time he’s topped the albums chart and the sales figures earn him 2011′s second best debut behind Adele’s 352,00 for 21. Trying to figure out how Brown made it to No. 1? Well, you can start here.

Jennifer Hudson’s sophomore set I Remember Me starts at No. 2, selling 165,000 albums. And Adele’s 21, last week’ s No. 1, drops to No. 3 with a still-impressive 96,000 albums sold.

Check out the full top 10 list after the jump.
