Lady Gaga reveals she’s directing her next video, talks Rebecca Black, and more in fan-generated Q&A taped at Google HQ

Confirming suspicions that Google is the coolest place to work on the planet—free laundry rooms! Sand volleyball courts! Dinosaur skeleton!—Lady Gaga appeared at their California headquarters yesterday to reveal, amongst other things, that she will be making her directorial debut on her next music video for the upcoming single “Judas.”

In an hour-long Q&A panel, Gaga fielded questions submitted via Google Moderator and Twitter as well as in-person inquiries from the lucky Little Monsters working at the Internet search engine giant.

Since you probably don’t have a spare hour and thirteen minutes to watch the whole “Musicians@Google Presents: Google Goes Gaga” YouTube video, we have kindly excerpted the highlights for the edification of you Little Monsters, casual fans and Internet trolls:

On getting behind the camera for her directorial debut
With her next single—the Biblically themed “Judas”—Gaga will branch out into another creative medium. “I can exclusively reveal here at Google that I will be making my directorial debut with Laurieann Gibson, directing this video with her.” (Gibson has choreographed most of Gaga’s videos. from “Poker Face” to “Born this Way.”)

Gaga told the panel to “expect some [Biblical] symbolism in this video,” and even recited some of the lyrics from the unreleased next single: “When he comes to me, I am ready/ I’ll wash his feet with my hair if he needs/ Forgive him when his tongue lies through his brain/ Even after three times, he betrays me/ I’ll bring him down, a king with no crown.”

“The song is about honoring your darkness to bring yourself into the light,” she cryptically explained, making sure to add, “And it’s really fun to dance to and sounds like it could be a pop priest record.” Ugh, come on: haven’t we had enough pop priest records already?

On Rebecca Black
When asked about the 13-year-old viral sensation’s “Friday” video, she admitted she hadn’t seen it, but that didn’t stop her from making this declaration about YouTube fame and haters: “I say Rebecca Black is a genius and anyone telling her she’s cheesy is full of sh*t.”

On her next album
The three words she used to describe it were “Avant-garde-techno-rock” (yeah, avant-garde is one word, give her a break). The Born this Way album will be “an exploration in electronic music and techno sonics,” as well as “metal-dance-pop music with a lot of anthemic choruses.” It will also include a song called “Edge of Glory,” inspired by her deceased grandfather.

On Reality TV
“You will never see me do reality television. I’m not that kind of person. My whole life is a performance art piece, so I don’t need to have that picture taken to feel that I’m in a moment of art.”

On the Google employee she knew in college
“Andrew was an R.A. at Third North where I went to college [NYU], and he wrote me up for drinking in my room. So we go way back, Google.”

On not feeling like a superstar
“I am genuinely a musician to my core. A lot of people don’t know that about me. I write every lyric, every melody. I’m in there with the producers, whipping them to make the new future of music. And that is why I’m here. I’m not here to be a superstar.”

On her love of Bruce Springsteen
“I’m really obsessed with Bruce Springsteen… He was blue-collar America, and I related to Bruce because I watched my father, a blue-collar American citizen, relate to Bruce.”

On the question, “How do you find time for Stefani?”
“I love this question. Who are you looking for? I’m right here. Stefani [Germanotta] is also who I am. Gaga is my nickname. It’s like when you’re a kid and your mom calls you ‘Skip.’ I really make no separation between Stefani and Gaga.”

Thats cause when she farts, it is the most original and self-inspired fart in ages. I find most people who diss Gaga do it because they are jealous of her vision.

I agree, it was great. I was only going to watch it for like 10 min and ended up watching the entire thing. I just didn’t like when they let the randoms come up and hug her, waste of time.

Thanks for the snippets EW. There is no way I’m sitting down for an hour to watch the whole thing. It’s cool to see a superstar n this age, witnessing how they utilize technology and social networking as a part of their brand.

  • Paul

“yeah, avant-garde is one word, give her a break.”

EW is really now just a Gaga/Glee fan site.

  • Rebecca Black

Thanks for the advice, Lady Gaga! I feel so much better about my song “Friday”. Oops, be right back. I gotta go have my bowl, my bowl of CEREAL!

Ok I’ve never had a problem with anything GaGa has ever said until this silly Rebecca Black comment. The girl is not a “genius”. She didn’t write that horrendous song, her mother paid 2K for them to make that video for her, and she didn’t work hard/show a high level of talent in order to get that video made. GaGa talks about working hard for what you want/what you deserve and to show off your talents, but this girl didn’t do that at all, and I can safely say she deserves her “fame” even less than Paris Hilton at this point. I really hope she doesn’t continue to make any money off of this, it’s sad for people out there who are really trying.

    • Well…

  • Ughhh

I think Lady Gaga should listen to the song before she calls that girl a “genius”.

    • True Blue

Yeah, that was the one part of the interview I had a slight problem with. If she hasn’t heard the song, how can she already deem it genius? So is she calling her a marketing genius, then?

Also notice how she subliminally insults the questioner by telling her “anyone who calls it cheesy is full of sh*t”, since the person did also call it cheesy when asking GaGa her question. Which I wouldn’t have a problem with… if she had listened to the song beforehand. It would be like me insulting anyone who dismisses Soulja Boy before listening to his music myself. I would feel like a real idiot afterwards.
